I think that there is a bit problem with activation in Andrew map due to different hex positions. The best way is to go directly west towards Vladivostok (as you are planning), it should work for sure.

Hi, welcome to the thread. Nice see people reading this stuff! [:)] ..and thank you.

I think you are correct. (Read the manual and Russians should have activated IF playing with stock map)

This definately has something to do with AB's great map.

Oh, well the offensive will start soon anyway. It has been very quiet lately so I have an feeling Chuck is prepared for this. (Maybe not for the scale though) I have every intention to destroy 90% of the Russian airforce within first 4 days. [;)]

I seem to recall there is actually a specific hex you're supposed to touch, in order to activate ther Russians.  There was something in it in the readme, but it's been too long since I read it.  I think it was hex in the DMZ, so you could trigger the activation (early if desired), and not actually have to attack something.

Or maybe a recon flight might trigger it, it might be construed as an "attack".

Hmmm. Never seen this but you might be correct, no doubt. Checked the readme for CHS and didn't notice it though.

(Everyday you find out something new about Witp)

...and yes I do want to activate Russia immediately. There is no point of waiting for them to grow so strong that I'am unable to stop them + I need some extra infantry divisions elsewhere too. These are the 2 main reasons behind the offensive. Add bonus to Finns vs Russians WW2 battles and this is an must! [:D][:D]

I don't think that flights will trigger Russia. (You actually can't fly your aircraft out when Russia is inactive)

..well either way.. we will soon have war in our hands. Those units the South will definately trigger Russians. [;)]

Japanese Attacking the Soviets:
If playing as the Japanese vs. the AI or a PBEM opponent, then if the player decides to attack the Soviet Union (including the base of Urumchi in Western China), they should ensure that the first, or equal first, hex they enter is hex 65,32 (this hex is easy to enter, using the railway from hex 64,31). This will ensure that Soviet Union entry is properly triggered.

This house rule is required due to the hard coded Soviet border that does nto exactly match the Soviet border on Andrew Brown's WitP map.

Hmm.. How did I miss that CHS note!!! [8|][:(] ...propably was a bit distrupted by these 2 youngters which seem to think that Witp combat replay is very fun to watch! (She points the monitor every time she seems the turn played out) ...at least the older daughter think so since the younger is still too little to understand much about world around her.

Thank you very much Feinder! I will do exactly that.. now only thing I need is turn from Chuck. [:D][:D]

Well Chuck had visitors this weekend so no turns.

I did however receive an email from him and we agreed on 1 more houserule regarding Russia:

* Those 3 squadrons on Russian Patrol planes are set on 20% Naval Search. Seems very reasonable for me so that is more than ok. (I do hope that he doesn't spot the KB before the initial strikes though)

This will be his 1st Russian war and I'am not experienced either so things propably will be somewhat messy.

You really need to get your HI reserve up. I would suggest turning off your merchant ship building. You need to suck Palembang dry of resources. You can probably get some from Indo-China as well. I have had my economy crash on me in the past and this is a short term solution. Good luck in Russia, I here it can be cold come October.[:D]

[:D][:D] ...Cheers! Nice to see new readers. Yeah, I know the economy is a big problem at the moment. This is my 1st ever glimpse of Japanese side of things. Never even played the AI. Isn't turning off the Merchant shipping quite drastic solution to the problem`???

I have suck pretty much every resource available into Japan.. I'am stillv very short on them though. I will soon move againts Balikpapan and Kendari too once Java is neutralized completely.

Thanks. I know that winter can be cold there but hopefully there wohn't any Russians left when it comes! [;)]

First at this stage in the war you really shouldn't need any new merchant ships. At present you have only lost 89 ships, even if they were all merchants this isn't even a dent. Turn it off for one month until you have a surplus of HI and then turn it on again. Your first priority should be Kendari as you probably don't need more oil. You need resources. Good luck.

I agree with okami regarding merchant shipyard.

Since your top priority now needs to be to wipe off the russians from the map you need soldiers and tanks, not merchant vessels. The route between HI and Manchuria or any liberated USSR coastal city is so short you wont need many merchants to keep your troops supplied.
I dont think there will be much of a threat for them, except maybe russian LBA which you could get around with LRCAP on the convoys. I dont believe you will see many allied subs in the area, except maybe for resuppying the russkies. [;)]
If you gained knowledge through the forum, why not putting it into the AE wiki?

okami: Excellent suggestion. I did turn off the whole Merchant Ship Building program. Hell, I have more transports at the moment than I know what to do with them! I might keep shutdown anywhere between 1-3 months! Depending ofcourse on the ship losses.

I will definately start moving towards Kendari and Balikpapan once Java is completely wiped out. Plenty of assault points + Shipping available in the region.

Mistmatz: Point taken as described above, thanks! I do definately need tanks and most of all aircraft which I'am still quite short of. The production has been improving but not as much as would like to. This Merchant shutdown might ease the pain here too.

I'am actually paying a lot more attention to my HI industry around the map. (Yeah, I know I made quite a few mistakes)

Just one question though... Do I need anything in the base in order to produce Resources??? Read the manual and what I gather those points are automatic. (Allthough I might have understand that wrong since resources are piling up slowly indeed)

I'am currently supplying my Manchuko army via Port Arthur and the main idea is to hammer his airforce swiftly in the opening few days. I think I can handle his LBA threat but I'am also 99% sure that he will try to bring in US troops into Russia too.

As for the last turn... very very quiet... I can sum everything up saying D-Day -3 turns!

What you shouldn't forgett is, that the red hordes have plenty of AAA! You'll loose many planes even if they don't shoot much down!

I'm really interested in this AAR, as I want to try this once, too!
