I expect it to be some time before he can invade Lugna.

I did not know you had enough pontoons to keep all those cripples afloat. then again, I count about 50 ships in the picture. Nice of you to get everything you have left together for a group photo.

From the time I posted last list of ship losses, IKE has lost an additional 2 APD's 5 in total, 5 minesweepens, 13 total   2 more oilers, 12 SC's 5 assorted LST types, and 23 AP'sk - for a total freighter loss of 51. Ike does have a reserve, all the mine damaged ships he has sent back to pearl.

Sounds like a similar situation in my game with BR except our settings are different and I'm sure the Allies have many more ships to throw at me.

yes, Irau has fallen. What hurts more is the nearly 100 planes I lost. Why Bettys will fly repeatedly from Rabaul unescorted, on Irau is beyond me. Plus the fact that they picked this time in 3 monhs to do it. Still, IKE paid a terrible price for this island. If Toyko lets me have som of those ships, I should still e in a stron position.

I brought this up on the CF request thread. One needs to be able to limit the range they (aircraft) react at like in WITP. Especially when they have such long range.

McArthur Rolls On

Scoreboard 3-12-43.

Allied Losses

Aircraft-2,341
Aircraft Carrier-6
Escort Carrier-3
Battleship-2
Cruiser-5
Destroyer-50
High Speed Transport-5
Seaplane Tender-3
Destroyer Mine Sweeper-2
Destroyer Mine Layer-3
Mine Sweeper-13
Oiler-3
Submarine-11
Transports-56

Japanese Losses

Aircraft-2,468
Aircraft Carrier-2
Scout Cruiser-2
Cruiser-2
Light Cruiser-3
Destroyer-14
High Speed Transpor-6
Seaplane Tender-3
Mine Layer-7
Oil Tankers-3
Submarines-11
Transports-74

Not included are Japanese patrol boats, Allied PT boats and other such minor vessels, The list is quite long and not easy to count. Probability of error is 50/50, I think we need such a counter that does this for us in ¨Carrier Force.

Comparing this list to Borners previous list...From the fall of Rennel to the taking of Irau costed me 3 Destroyers, 28 Transports,5 Mine Sweepers,2 High Speed Transports.

Fifty Six Allied transports sunk does not break Allied shipping. I expect it to become much, much harder for him to do damage to my shipping and invasion forces now as I move forward under the ¨Corsair Umbrella¨ up the Solomon chain. Getting in the door was the hard part and I´m definately in now.

Points Score in ships sunk favor Japanese by about 2-1.

Bombers are flying from Rennel and Nevea escorted by Corsairs from Rennel bombing the Lunga airstrip into oblivion. This will continue.

Borner has kept a very large airforce there and if I´m lucky he left it there, or at least a lot of it. My recon shows now 72% airfield damage meaning if he did leave a lot of planes there they won´t be able to leave. So I will keep bombing him and put the airfield totally out of service, trapping his planes there and destroy them.

As well he has had a very large garrison there and that´s a lot of mouths to feed. Already P39´s are attacking barges at Lunga.

I will send a submarine special forces recon force ashore and see what he has going on there as far as numbers.

So what we are likely to see in the coming month is Lunga being bombed everyday. The airfield obliterated and all the planes there destroyed. The garrison reduced to starvation rations. Then an initial invasion to the north and south of lunga to cut off any retreat route, (as I dropped men off north of Irau before making my final assault on Irau) then, a Lunga proper invasion and a battle of annialation against the Japanese garrison.

That´s my plans. I don´t know what Borners plans are.

In the Allied victory at Rennel I figure borner lost around 20,000 men and at Irau I figure around 30,000. So that´s 50,000ísh Japanese ground troops off the table for awhile. My ground casualties were around 10,000 but I couldn´t use complete and total overwelming numbers because the auto victory sites, especially those in Austraila have to be heavily garrisoned for awhile yet. As well at Irau he was deeply dug in and that made the fight even longer.

My plan, go on leave, fly to Toyko, and slap around the paper-pusher keeping my fleet in home waters! Other than that, try to slow IKE down long enough to keep him from Lea/Rabaul until the end of the game. those 3 silly air strikes by the A.I. sure have hurt though. I could really use those 200+ extra planes about now.

I don´t think it´s going to take long for BORNER to realize that daylight operations for the Imperial Navy, within 10 spaces of Renell and Irau are now over.

Well, Toyko finally released more ships, Kinda late, but at least it will help.  Ike let up on the air attacks at Lugna, so I was able to pull out what was left of my Zero groups. That will be a great help later as well. The big question now is when does the US start getting it's damaged ships back.

April 5th, 1943, The Allies land on Tulagi.

Hopefully I did enough talking about other places to make Borner not garrison Tulagi very well. It has always been the next objective in the Solomon chain. Reason being the next best port I have is all the way down in Luganville. A long way to go for a badly sinking ship to go before it sinks. Having Tulagi allows any badly damaged ships to jump one space from Lunga and be in a major port and just a few from Russel. This saves ships from sinking and giving him more points. As well many of the smaller Allied landing craft I have now in abundance are of very limited range. The little higgins boats and such. Having Tulagi will multiply their transport capabilities.

Tulagi has fallen to the Allies and Borner hopes to have one last, glorious carrier battle victory for the Emporer. Tulagi will make the taking of the nearby Japanese bases much easier.

naval actions off Tulagi. I sent in a bombardment force, and ran into another of IKE's endless supply of BB's. Overall I gave better than I got. the next turn, our CV's clashed. IKE damaged 2 of my CV's, only one has to return home, and I hit Essex with either 10 bombs and 1 torp, sunk one CVE, and put a torp into another. My 2nd strike went against his landing force and got torn apart. Over 140 planes were lost in the turn, only about 30 US, but this should about take care of the US carriers for a while.

in reading this fourm, I have seen several people say that thi senario at 100% is not winable for Japan unless the US is a new player. I am starting to believe this. So far, the US has lost 6 CV's, 4 CVE's. Recently, the Essex and a CVE were damaged. This turn, I ran into the Victorious, 2 US CVL's, and another CVE. In the limited games have played as the US, I received at most 2 BB's. IKE must have had every one on the Order of Battle sent to him. Is there something built into the game that not only sends ships based on losses, but also territory? I must say though, I have learned a great amount this game, especially on how to play and not to play Japan. We will see if IKE can take enough of my bases to close the point lead, as he still has 8 months.
