RE: Turn 51 - 26/01/1942
A small but very satisfying turn:-
Pacific
75 Zeros sweep Pearl, 1 is lost for the destruction of 4 Allied fighters - where do they keep coming from?
At Lahaina the 33rd Div departs to rendevous with the main invasion fleet, escorted by the BB TF.The 16th is waiting for its last elements from Kona (9th and 20th) before forming and will then follow shortly after. The invasion force heading south consists of the 4 divisions in one TF and artillery shipped from Korea in the other - the artillery was loaded still in Strategic mode, this TF splits and heads to Lahaina to disembark, change to combat and reembark otherwise it will be devastated by the CD guns trying to unload on its own - it cannot join the main force as it is a transport TF and not amphib. Support troops and other artillery units are been loaded at Lahaina.
At Kona the engineers are 1 turn out and they will transform this base into a size 5 field, whilst this happens the Zeros will be transferred here, the Sallys will have their own dedicated field at Kona and Nells and Bettys will be based at Lahaina.
Off San Diego the DD Schley returns to harass the I-19 until the sub fights back and hits her with a torpedo - she limps back to San Diego.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
Just off Burma between Samarinda and Tarakan is a line of subs i cant break yet - ASW is on the way - SS O24 catches the DD Arashio heading to Hong Kong for repairs and puts a torpedo in her - she might still make it.
SS Snapper finds the CA Chokai limping into the harbour at Hong Kong for repairs after her fight with the Boise - the torpedoes miss. ASW forces are been accumulated here too.
At Loewek where the Kendari invasion fleet is massing 139WH-3s attempt to bomb the forces here - a CAP of Oscars disperses the attack - 1 bomber returns home damaged.
As the time nears where Balikpapan, Kendari and Makassar will be the most Southern/Western bases capable of attacking Java and the DEI all available AV support troops are been sent here - Saigon and its surrounding bases are stripped of AV support units, Singkawang, Aparri and Malayas support is all headed this way to provide a stable platform to protect the seas in this area and to attack Soerbaja and Timor - in time, probably 10 days the KB will also be en route here and LBA will be used to ensure she is safe.
Java/Timor
With the wider dispersal of subs comes new theatres of war and a plan that comes to fruition.
The Allied CV TF was seen heading east towards Timor last turn, i sent 2 subs east and parked them in the bottlenecks between islands and archipelagoes i hoped the TF would pass through on its way - presumably to Darwin or Sydney. The I-154 gains immortality by intercepting the force before the bottleneck is even reached - she puts 1 torpedo into CL Detroit and escapes unseen and then returns to put 3 torpedoes into CA New Orleans - medals all round - these damaged ships must head to Darwin it been the biggest port nearby and the sub follows - there is another one in the path further South. If they head to Soerbaja there are 2 subs here too.
Off Horn Island between Australia and New Guinea RO-62 hits and sinks xAK Talune - the first RO victim.
Burma & Malaya
Dauntless and Danae bombard Port Blair but no damage is inflicted on the base or the engineers here.
I see the evil mini cruiser force arrive in Singapore, but all the Lilys are east at Celebes guarding against the CV force.
Just off Malaya near Soc Trang SS KXVI hits an xAK coming into Saigon on a CS resource mission.
The paras at Prome are bombed by B17s - 60 casualties are inflicted.
The Imp Guards have marched 9 miles in 2 days towards Kuantan - its going to be a while before they get there.
China
At Singyang i see 4 more units reinforce the base here, and 4 of my own divisions are still 20 miles away - i expect a shock attack here from Yank tomorrow - forces further North are moving into position to encircle the 2 bases still

RE: Turn 52 - 27/01/1942
Pacific
The Hawaiian islands go quiet as both sides prepare for the invasion - Yank must know its coming as mine sweepers are seen off the coast of Pearl and shipping traffic increases around the islands.
The 9th and 20th arrive in Lahaina - the 16th div is almost complete - the last element is the 16 Eng Regiment that has just arrived in Kona to help with the airfield - ships are sent here to collect it. The rest of the engineers get started on the airfield.
The mini KB meets up with the invasion fleet and both TFs come in closer to Pearl, the 33rd Div is about 2 turns from the meeting, and the artillery goes on to Lahaina to unload/load.
37 Zeros sweep Pearl and destroy one P40 for no loss.
3 Bolos attack the BB TF escorting the 33rd Div but none get that far and 2 are damaged.
South at Suva the I-17 sinks an xAK entering the harbour.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
Sub activity is ramped up hugely in the seas around Balikpapan and the Celebes and the merchant fleet loses too many precious oilers and TKs.
- Off Manado the S-38 misses an AK carrying elements of the Guards Brigade
- O21 misses an xAK and an xAKL at Balikpapan and then retires out of torpedoes
- SS Saury sinks the huge AO Notoro outside Balikpapan
The Allied CVs have disappeared - the transport TF heads back to Makassar to pick up the 124th to rendevous with the 90th that is leaving Ternate and together they will attack Ambon.
The Kendari Invasion fleet with the 65th should land next turn - that leaves the Guards in reserve prepping for Timor.
Further North the S-39 sinks a 1250 tonne tanker off San Fernando.
Cabanatuan is retaken by the Allies and the IJA fall back just in time.
The 108th RN Base Force that has been camped out in Beaufort finally succumbs to attrition and disappears from the map.
Malaya & Burma
Force B and Imp Guards make very slow progress towards Kuantan
China
The 39th Div in the South of China rack up their 8th victory and force the 28th Chinese corps into full retreat.
Waiting for reinforcements the 19 Ind Mixed Brigade at Kanhsien is kicked out of the base and suffers 3500 casualties to the Allied shock attack who lose 554 men. Further reinforcements will reach here after the 2 death stars from the North retake Ichang.

RE: Turn 53 - 28/01/1942
Pacific
The first elements of the main mine sweeping force arrive off Pearl and start to clear the mines away.
S-18 is in the vicinity and sinks a DMS on mine sweeping duties.
Engineers start work immediately at Hilo and go straight from 75% level 1 to 30% level 2 airfield - work continues - the Zeros are based here, and all the Sallys are moved to Kona. The 16th Eng leave Kona and should meet up with the remainder of the 16th Div at Lahaina and then they will rendevous with the main invasion force.
37 Zeros sweep Pearl, 2 are lost but 10 Allied fighters are destroyed - it must be fog of war either incorrectly reporting the kills or falsely reporting the aircraft at Lahaina - theyre not causing a problem but they should be all dead by now.
North of Pearl where the invasion forces are gathering it seems the escort arrives without the bombers - a cap of 18 Zeros intercepts the attack and destroys 3 more fighters for no loss.
3 B17s and a fighter attack the Nagato at Lahiana - all return home damaged.
Engineers, and garrisons are still arriving across the SoPac and Tabiteau is at 80% on the airfield.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
The Kendari invasion force hits the beaches supported by the accompanying DDs and cruisers. They face the compulsory bombardment that does little damage and prepare for a deliberate attack tomorrow.
Further round the Celebes AV support on its way to Makassar is intercepted by O23 and on the xAKs is hit by a torpedo.
Further North 2 1250 ton TKs rounding the top of Luzon are caught by the SS-39 and sunk - this is the final straw for the merchant oilers, all tankers are routed east from Balikpapan to Badelbaob and then will proceed north to the HI returning ships will follow this path - the route from Borneo to Formosa is too easy to patrol for the Allies.
Malaya & Borneo
The peninsular is pretty much in limbo - waiting for Force B to arrive at Kuantan and then move down to Singapore - 20 miles of 96 are completed on the route east to Kuantan.
China
At the very north of the main rail route near Yenan - the Allies attack Kweisui which has just been reinforced by a brigade - just in time - the IJA gains odds of 1:2 and the Allies suffer 400 casualties to the IJAs 93 - the forts stay in place.

Pacific
SS Silversides comes across the invasion task force near French Frigate Shoals but misses with her torpedo attack.
207 mines are cleared off Pearl but the minesweepers take a kicking from the coastal guns and all are sunk.
Off Los Angeles the I-19 fires the last of her torpedoes at a DMS and her sister ship looking for the sub - they all miss but she escapes.
41 Zeros sweep Pearl and destroy 6 more fighters for no loss - ill have to check the aces list next turn - theyre must be a few knocking about now.
4 bombers and 2 fighters leave Pearl and attack the mass of shipping 280 miles North of the island, a CAP of 6 fighters intercepts and destroys 2 fighters and damages 4 bombers - 1 Zero is lost.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
Off the north coast of Borneo heading to Singkawang a 7 ship TF of transporters is caught by the evil allied cruisers - all 7 are sunk but thankfully no troops are aboard - coming from the east is my own cruiser force on intercept and should catch the cruisers next turn.
50 Nells bomb the port at Soerbaja from Balikpapan - all long range bombers have been moved here and the Lillys moved further east where land masses are closer. CLs Sumatra and De Ruyter take 3 bombs each and the port takes minor damage.
The 124th leaves Makassar as AV support arrives - they are headed to rendevous with the 90th regiment and together they will attack Ambon.
At Kendari - the invasion force attack is calculated at 115:1 - both the base force and garrison surrender, the IJA suffers only 28 casualties. The troops will rest here for a turn or two before prepping for Timor.
Malaya & Borneo
An xAK leaving Saigon is caught by the SS KXV and hit with a torpedo, to add insult to injury the sub returns and hits the ship with 2 more torpedoes in the afternoon.
Force B continues to plod east to Kuantan, the defeated forces surrounding the other bases simply sit and watch.
China
At Sinyang the infamous, legendary IJA artillery is used for the first time - 211 casualties are suffered by the Allies here - i will try again next turn.
In southern China the legends that are the 39th Div rack up another victory and cause 6131 Allied casualties for the loss of 1525.

Pacific
SS Argonaut sinks an empty xAK at Lahaina - the majority of the ASW is moved back here fromjust out east where the sea lanes were been patrolled.
The 16th Engineers are almost finished unloading here, after this the 16th Div will be rebuilt for the first time, loaded onto ships and sent North to rendevous with the invasion fleet - im probably 3-4 turns away from invading Pearl.
32 Zeros sweep Pearl and destroy 2 fighters for no loss.
5 bombers including 2 B17Es attempt to bomb the invasion fleet, CAP is provided by the mini KB and 1 bomber - a B17 is destroyed, the rest are damaged, 1 Zero is lost to a B17.
Tabiteau reaches 90% for its airfield - 4 construction enginner battallions and AV support are on the way to start building the island proper. At Palmyra AV support is just about to arrive, allowing the use of recon, Christmas Island will be reconned and then attacked if empty.
The KB leaves Tokyo and heads to Truk to refuel and will then enter the DEI either throught the corridor via the Celebes or round New Guinea, i would like to try and find the Allied CVs that went missing a few turns ago.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
I finally catch the mini evil cruiser force off Singkawang. The CAs Mikuma, Suzuya, Kumano and the CL Sendai, plus 11 DDs intercept the raiders entering the harbour - Mikuma sinks the CL Java, the Dragon and Durban are both heavily damaged and burning as are the DDs Vampire and Express - there is no damage to speak of to the IJN force other than a few shell hits.
At the island north of Ambon the 90th waits for the 124th just 2 hexes out and then they will attack Ambon.
The defeated allied force has reentered Dadjingas next to Davao but not yet attacked - the 66th regiment recently bought at Hong Kong is not far from here on its way to meet the 90th/124th force - they will unload here first and retake the base.
Balikpapan will reach level 5 air field next turn, then all the construction engineers will be taken to Makassar and unloaded there to fix the runway and build up the field.
Malaya & Borneo
Plod, plod, plod towards Kuantan
The Yokosuka para force is lifted back from Prome to the safety of Moulemein - the bombing there was quite extensive for a small force. Oscars are put on CAP over the base should the bombers return.
China
The bombardment at Sinyang is even less effective causing only 64 casualties - there are plenty of supplies - im just not sure i have enough arty to warrant the much vaunted arty death star accolade yet - this is all further north near Kafeing.

dont get me wrong - it was not something i was hoping for id consider it too gamey if it happened - i was just underwhelmed with the results - but to be fair this is not the mass of artillery that has been mentioned in the past - that is further north

RE: Turn 56 - 31/01/1942
Pacific
A quiet day around Hawaii for the subs.
The 16th Div is reformed at Lahaina and boards the ships, along with the 16th HQ, 144th Regiment - Yank's subs have whittled down the AKs enough to leave me a few short for 4 arty units at Lahaina - i will manage without these for now - the large arty TF that needs to unload and load again in combat mode is 2 hexes out. The size of the invasion TF will reach 100 when the 16th and its HQ arrive just off Pearl - this will be the first element of the invasion - the next landing will be all the arty and the 144th escorted by the BB TF.
30 Zeros sweep Pearl and destroy 5 fighters for no loss - for the first time there is no aircraft icon at Pearl - i think this maybe the turn that finished off any air resistance.
Tabiteau hits 100% and becomes an official base - more engineers are a few hexes away - they will expand the port.
At Suva it is a great day for I-26 she hits and sinks TK Gulfpride and TK William Sunuco - both apparently full of fuel.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
Off Northern Luzon a small TK heading to Badelbaob from Takao on the new sub free route is intercepted by the SS Tarpon, she misses. This is such a random location for the sub to be in im onclined to believe its on its way somewhere else and came across the TK, i dont think Yank is onto the new oil route yet!
The small element of the 33rd Regiment stationed at Okinawa arrives at Altimonan, they will attack the undefended base tomorrow.
At Lingayen - the AV support troops make it off the base just in time as Allied units arrive in the area, they are routed to Makassar, as the ships leave a MTB TF enters the harbour - totally unaware of the large PB/DMS TF i sent here to guard the transports - 2 MTBs are sunk for no loss, the MTBs retreat into San Fernando right into the ambush set of another DMS/SC/PB TF - they sink 2 more MTBs for no loss.
Between Manado and Davao the AO Iro heading west from Badelbaob is caught by S-38 and hit once - this thin corridor is a death trap - TKs leaving Balikpapan are now routed south past Kendari and back up to Badelbaob - ironically enough the route i used in our last WITP game.
Coming down past the west coast of Borneo are a number of TFs carrying AV support to Makassar and Balikpapan, over the day 9 seperate sorties take off to bomb these ships - it seems the remainder of the Dutch air force is stationed at Soerbaja - the attacks are made up of groups of 139WH-3s and CW-22 Falcons - im shocked and surprised to report that after all the attacks by maybe 40 bombers not one bomb hits - bless the Dutch Air Force [:D]
30 Nells leave Balikpapan again to bomb the port of Soerbaja - the 2 cruisers there take 5 more bombs and a magazine explodes on the De Ruyter.
The 124th and the 90th join and set off for Ambon, the Guards brigade moves up as reserve.
The 66th sent to Dadjingas to clear out the defeated Allies who returned here is rerouted to Ambon - the allied force has disappeared overnight.
Malaya & Burma
Plod, trudge, plod - 26 miles covered - 70 to go.
Tfs are sent to Mersing to take Const Battlns from here to help at Balikpapan.
A passing transport TF is found by SS KXVII and hit by a torpedo - she'll still make it to Makassar.
B17s bomb Moulemein - the Oscars LRCAPing Prome will switch back to here and will CAP the base.
China
Sinyang is bombarded again yielding 241 casualties - im waiting for a unit to come round the back of the base to prevent a retreat and then an attack will go in - the unit is 2 miles from its destination.
Units at Kanhsien are shock attacked by the garrison and the 104th Div is kicked out - ive fallen into a nasty habit of leaving forces on 'move' in bases where they are outnumbered - this will change

The 16th and 33rd Divs, and 16th HQ rendevous with the mini-kb and BB TF and the invasion fleet - the invasion is on and will land next turn. 250 Sallys are ordered to bomb ground targets from Kona. The 144th, and all the artillery units will go in after the arty is ready to reload onto the transports - im not sure what to expect, the BBs didnt meet any serious opposition so we'll see how it goes - the island shows 31 units - i should land with about 2500 AV, as long as Yank as 800 or less ill be comfortable.
29 Zeroes sweep Pearl and destroy 2 fighters i didnt expect to find, for no loss.
5 unescorted bombers attack the invasion fleet - 40 Zeros intercept, one is lost but 2 bombers are destroyed including a B17.
Recon is en route to Palmyra so we can see whats garrisoning Christmas Is.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
The 124th and the 90th unload at Ambon - minor casualties are inflicted by the garrison but the base should fall easily next turn, 139WH-3s attempt to disrupt proceedings but amazingly miss!
The 021 has the corridor between Balikpapan and the southern Celebes covered and puts 2 torpedoes into a passing TK, fully loaded sinking her - a trawl of all available ASW DDs and TBs has yielded 22 ships - they are en route in various TFs.
45 Nells bomb Soerbaja again - the 2 cruisers suffer 12 more bomb hits - 6 each - Naval HQs will be dispatched to the region to provide torps for this task.
More 139WH-3s attempt to sink the passing AV support troops, splashes all round but no hits.
Undefended Atimonan falls.
Malaya & Burma
Plod, plod, plod - 32 miles.

The bombardment at Sinyang causes 101 casualties.
Troops entering Chengchow to ready for the attack trigger a shock attack, even in the wrong mode with low supplies the odds are 1:2 and the casualties are even at 574 IJA and 485 Allies - but the forts stay up.
The 16th Temp Div providing the Southern most point of the encirclement of Chengchow is shock attacked by forces coming up from Sinyang and is forced to retreat - leaving a gap for any defeated Allied forces - 6 Divs are diverted to fill the gap - the main attack is not yet ready anyway

Pacific
The pre-invasion bombardment is quite bloodless - BB Nagato, CA Ashigura and CL Tatsuta are all hit - Tatsuta is todays target for all shells and bombardments, the first 2 ships just the one shell each, the CL takes 7.
1529 casualties are suffered getting out of the ships and into position!! Tasuta and CL Tenryu take another 7 hits each supporting the unloading troops - 35 casualties are inflicted on the Oahu Harbour Defence Force. The garrison troops bombard the landing forces and inflict 796 casualties, the list here shows 825 Allied AV and 2600 IJA AV - ill try a bombard round next turn - the Divisions that have been on ships since the 7th of December have a disruption level of 90, fatigue is good though, ill bombard a few turns and see how much the disruption drops.
No transport ships were damaged in the drop off so apart from those still unloading supplies the rest will return to help load the artillery at Lahaina and add to the bombarding power at Pearl along with the 144th regiment - i think if the ships are just unloading supplies they are not subject to coastal fire - i will send the BB escort back with the transports.
33 Zeros sweep Pearl and destroy 2 fighters for no loss.
160 Sallys actually take off, escorted by 30 Zeros - 4 are destoyed, 97 damaged (15 in reality) and 45 casualties inflicted on the ground - its the disruption im aiming for here.
5 unescorted bombers attempt to hit the beaches but are caught by the CAP of 20 Zeros - 2 bombers are destroyed for no loss.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
The 90th and 124th attack at Ambon, the results arent quite what i expected - the unadjusted AV is 251 v 71 in favour of the IJA, but due to disruption the AV is adjusted to 70 - the engine translates this as 1:2 against the IJA and the battle, not lost, isnt conclusive - 98 casualties are inflicted on the IJA and 275 on the Allies. The effects of the disruptiion here is what has influenced the resting decision at Pearl - the Guards Brigade is brought up to make sure of the victory.
20 Nells bomb the port at Soerbaja again - and the cruisers here take 2 more bomb hits each.
The Dutch short-sighted 139WH-3 pilots attempt to sink the passing support AV TFs again - CAP should be taking off from Balikpapan but it isnt - ill have a look.
On Luzon the undefended Lingayen is recaptured by the Allies. The large TF at Aparri starts to take on board all the AV support troops here for Balikpapan and Makassar, the surface combat TFs are present here to defend against the MTB attacks of last turn.
Malaya & Burma

5 B-17s attack the troops at Moulemein - this time the Oscar CAP takes off and damages all the bombers for no loss

Reinforcements at Sinyang trigger a shock attack again as they come across the river - the AV of the IJA is adjusted from 2300 to 1100 and the Allies get boosted from 974 to 1600 - odds of 1:2 destroy 5000 IJA troops to 3500 Allied ones.

is it possible that you can inform us with a short post / message.. how you expect the strategic picture to change in the pacific after you secure pearl.. compared to the normal circumstances.. will his supply be more difficult.. will it be easier for you to sink his merchants.. plan any raids on the US coast? where do you think hell now launch his main counter attacks.. i suspect trying to take back pearl against LBA will be suicidal for him until late 43 / early 44.. thanks in advance i enjoy reading the AAR

Krupp i imagine without Pearl it lengthens his supply route from the west coast to Fiji - if i take Fiji once Pearl falls i would imagine he needs a new route of some sort - im not sure of the new implications of the western map supply routes from Africa ill look into those

A debut appearance from SS Grenadier at Pearl - but she escapes the ASW forces here
I-19 sinks YP-414 off the west coast of the US - she heads for Midway for fuel and torpedoes.
The air war over Pearl has become a simple task of sweeping with one flight of Zeros and defeating the 1 or 2 fighters that come up on CAP - there is never any Japanese loss and 1 or 2 fighters are always destroyed - 1 this turn.
One of the base forces from Kona arrives in Hilo to provide air support to the Zeros here.
108 Sallys bomb the various ground troops at Pearl - minor damage occurs but the numbers are going up - the altitude of the attacks is lowered to 1000ft.
The Japanese bombardment causes 13 casualties - the replying Allied bombardment causes 647! The artillery is unloaded at Lahaina and im just waiting for it to switch to combat mode so it can be shipped back out again - they will meet up with elements of the divisions that were cut off from the main invasion force to keep the ship numbers at 100, here the 144th regiment also waits - once unloaded at Pearl after rendevousing with the BB TF they will bombard a few turns and the first deliberate attack will occur a few days after that.
Recon from Palmyra spies a number of ships at Christmas Island but doesnt spot if theres a garrison or not.
The port at Tabiteau is at 35% and more construction troops are on the way.
Hilo airfield is on its way to level 5 - when it reaches 5 the construction engineers here will be dispersed to the SoPac islands to start constructing the fortifications - supply ships are been loaded at Truk to issue supplies to the islands.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
O16 rises to the surface to engage a passing xAK - she takes 3 hits before submerging again, no shots were fired at the transport ship.
SS Pike hits and sinks an empty xAK off Balikpapan.
The guards mixed brigade unloads at Ambon to ensure the success of the next deliberate attack here - in a few turns there will be the 124th, the 90th, the 65th, and the guards here - they will rest and then move onto Timor landing at each end of the island.
All bases that were front line are to be emptied and the troops moved forward. This should lead in a north west - south east line from Ambon, through Kendari, to Makassar and up to Balikpapan - all these bases will have there airfields expanded and supplies sent, base forces and garrisons will be sent from the old front line - Davao, Tarakan and Manado, this leaves the Lillys, Nells and Bettys here within range of most of the Southern tip of the DEI and Timor.
Nells attack Soerbaja again and hit the Sumatra some more - i dont know whether the other CL has sunk, but shes not mentioned.
On Luzon the forces at Atimonan are strafed by 10 P39s from Manilla - 18 casualties are inflicted - Oascars from Aparri will CAP the base.
Aparri starts to ship out its AV support to the front line.

Pacific
S-18 is hit once by a passing ASW force at Pearl
24 Zeros sweep at 20k feet - a P40E is destroyed for no loss.
167 Sallys bomb Pearls ground troops causing 72 casualties and destroying a large number of guns - hopefully the Allied bombardment numbers will start to fall.
In reply 15 bombers attack the unloading transport fleet - 2 are destroyed and 8 are damaged - an empty xAK is hit with one bomb.
Unloading at Pearl proves to be more costly than landing the forces - every turn so far the 2 BBs and 2 random xAKs are attacked by the shore battery - the BBs survive but the transporters are always sunk - 4 so far - damaged ships are seperated from the TF and sent back to Lahaina to be stabilised before moving to Midway for repair.
The bombardments this time bring no casualties but 13 friendlies for the IJA attack, and 250 for the Allied attack - at least the figures are coming down, as mine shortly should be going up.
The ships at Christmas have gone, still no garrison sighted.
The KB should arrive in Truk next turn where it will refuel and hopefully fill out the rest of the wings - it is then heading immediately west past Ambon to Kendari where it will seek to mop up all allied shipping in the area.
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
The crazy O16 comes to the surface again, before immediately resubmerging in front of an AK heading to Balikpapan.
South of here the O23 fires 2 torps at I-153 guarding the entrance to Balikpapan harbour - no hits.
SS Pike misses a passing xAK heading to Manado - the ASW forces scoured from Japan and Korea and Formosa are on their way.
The 84th Naval Guard - the other troops at Atimonan are strafed and again lose 18 casualties to the P-39Ds.
Odds of 6:1 are achieved at Ambon, the AV adjusted from 501 to 165 but still over the AV of 25 for the Allies - all 5001 troops surrender - the vital base falls into the Emporers hands - engineers emabark towards the base to increase the airfield.
AV support is up to 230 at Makassar, im just waiting for the engineers to fix the runways here. Balikpapan is at 100 and the Nells are getting repaired, and Kendari is 150 catering for the Lillys.
The search is on for garrisons in the rear areas as the old front line bases give up their base forces and SNLFs for the new front line - there are still some troublesome defeated troops knocking around in Mindanao and Borneo.

More plodding - Kuantan is at least now in the next hex!

The famous 39th division decimates another set of units passing through their hex - they suffer 659 casualties but inflict 5658 on the 3 Chinese Corps, while at Sinyang crossing the river triggers another shock attack - 60k IJA troops attack 35K Chinese - the forts stay at 2 and the IJA inflicts 2784 casualties for 2169 Allied

i think so - havent looked - i think the problem is compounded by them being in move mode when they cross - this is only a secondary action and a holding plan really there is an AV value of 8000 and above coming down towards here in approx 6 turns.

23 Zeros sweep Pearl and the compulsory P40E comes up for a beating - no losses on either side this time
132 Sallys bomb the island next - 79 casualties are inflicted and a number of guns put out of action - the usual high count of damaged Sallys is not reflected in what lands back at Kona.
Between Lahaina and Pearl the artillery and the 144th unite into one TF - it will sail to Pearl but not unload - as just cargo ships it would be decimated by Pearls CDs - when it gets to Pearl it will merge with the remainder of the first invasion fleet still unloading supplies and then unload - this should bring another 150 AV to the forces and many more guns. A recent look at the combat report shows i have 78k men on the island and Yank has 67k but the AV is still at 2600 v 880, however he has 1300 guns and 1800 vehicles to my 700 guns and 90 vehicles which would explain the bombarding difference - well see how that changes over the next few turns.
This turn the IJA bombardment kills 78 Japanese and 5 Allied - the returning fire kills 217 IJA troops.
Bolos and Dauntless' attack the unloading supply ships at Pearl, they all miss and 3 are destroyed and 3 damaged.
8 B17s then attack a detachment of damaged ships that seperated from Pearl to head towards Lahaina for repair - 2 are hit and will sink - 6 B17s are damaged by the CAP.
After spotting the ships at Christmas a few turns ago - the mini KB is sent hunting in this area - Yank cant actually use Pearl so his shipping must be by-passing here and going to Fiji - hence the increased activity at Suva.
At Suva the I-10 spots the DD Thanet a long way from home but misses with her salvo, frustrated with this the sub then spots a loaded AO in the afternoon and hits the Bishopdale with 1 torp - fuel cargo is burning!
Phillipines/Formosa/South China Sea/Borneo
Not much to report other than maneuvering - TKs and AOs are coming round the west of Borneo from Miri to head out towards Badelbaob to unload.
Recon is sent from Luzon to Ambon to look at Lautem, from there it may fly to Hollandia to recon Kaveing - im unsure whether the 66th, 124th, 65th, 90th and guards should take Timor or Rabaul - im thinking Rabaul and i will leave the DEI to the divisions released by the fall of Singapore.
Bombers are moved to Kendari and a pre-emptive ground attack will go in at Lautem to see whats there.
North coast of Australia
I-121 spots but misses the AO Tan 2 coming into Darwin
but I-155 spots xAK Time coming into Darwin from Bathurst Island and sinks her with 4 torps.
Malaya & Burma
43 miles to go!
China
Just maneuvering for now - the huge death star of 6000av is now ready at Chengchow - a bombardment is ordered first and a deliberate attack will go in next turn - i want to see the effects of the artillery here just once
