@ roeddog,

If you are sick of personal flaming wars, why do you start one ?

Why isn´t it possible to discuss a particular point of the game, without someone jumping in, trying to turn the discussion into a personal

war?

Obviously the same persons, complaining about flaming are doing the same thing. I don´t get it.

Everyone knows, who you talking about. There wasn´t any need to turn into that direction. Most people talking in this thread aren´t envolved

in that conflict.

I wrote it before and I wrote it once again. The best you can do to put new customers off, is to continue with that flaming wars.

This old conflict, doesn´t interest many new Harpoon gamers.

Image costs of game

Image about whether the patches break or fix the game

Image the almost constant flame war tween peoples.

Yet another set of reasons why I have retreated from the Computer version of Harpoon and gone back to the pen/paper version. When I will have the money I may purchase the latest and greatest verison of Computer Harpoon, but all of this previous six pages of hate and discontent is what has turned people away from this game on the computer. It is a damn shame, but egos are egos.
Take my word for it. You never want to be involved in an “International Incident”.

Well, although the H3ANW is quite disappointing, I really think the HCE is very good in quality and indeed, after i bought both of the games three years ago, i has only played HCE intensively. You know, H3ANW is always disappointing since its release. I have one thing to mention, that is the intro video of Harpoon 3 (remember the various pics and the ground music of the original H3?) which fails to be included in any version of H3ANW. I have to copy and paste the intro video file from my old H3 directory...I think this is ridiculous, and I don't know whether HUE will solve this issue (since it claims that it includes all the previous edition, so I suppose the intro video is included at least in the H3.6).
You should fire when ready!

I believe I have owned/downloaded/patched every version since Harpoon 1.0. I've gone away and come back to the game full bore a dozen or more times. You get tired of it eventually, but then in a few months it calls out to ya. I love what they've done with Ultimate Edition. My computer is pretty organized, but my H1, H2, H3, HCE, Gold, etc. directories, battlessets and databases ended up all over the place, and I forgot half of what went with what. And crash-caused new computer purchases were a Harpoon nightmare, except for the last boxed releases (H3ANW + HCE) that I would load and start over from scratch. This product straightens that out for me and probably most hardcore users. I understand that it isn't cheap but the $25 discount was quite welcome and more than fair in my opinion. Ultimate Edition is their entire Harpoon inventory, neatly packaged, pick what you want. How cool is that? And the description was very clear on that point.
We know Harpoon's not perfect. At the risk of setting Herman off again, it never will be. We (Herman excepted) live with it. It's a game. We have received thousands and thousands of hours of play for, what, 20 years now out of this game and probably averaged about $7 a year over that period. I'd pay five times that for what we've received.
So I'm very grateful to all those who are doing this for us, and the others over the years who have worked hard (many are on the list of Pooners of the Year). The entertainment value of this game, over time, surpasses any entertainment product I've seen in my lifetime. I will endure a crash, or a plane that won't attack.
Eric, Tony, Randal, "new guy", thanks for your work on our behalf. Same goes to Dale, Bucks, Jesse, Ralf, and all those many others (I know I'm forgetting many...). Keep it up!

+1 regarding your statements. That´s exactly how it is IMO. No sim is bug free. i, too, play Harpoon sfor decades now, it is kind of an addiction. No other game brought me so much.

Regarding your kind words: Thank you very much!

Ego are always going to be present, no matter who's banned or not.  It's sorta like Fox News....he with the loudest voice often is the only one that gets heard, regardless of right or wrong.

That being said, it takes a special type of commitment (or sanity) to work on databases and scenarios.  This level of commitment is something that alot of guys can't make because they don't have the time.  The added commets from people who 'demand' uber realism, or post fake bug lists (which simply isn't possible unless you join the navy and then you'll be very disappointed) don't help.

Over the last several weeks I've seen AGSI and Matrix begin to take control of the message here from people like Herman and his unbanned buddies.  While I for one appreciate it, the job is far from complete.  The community had been all but destroyed by people like Herman (there's more people like him out there still active) and to re-spark it, we need people with that commitment that I speak of above.

Good point about Herman.

I thought seriously about buying this game until I read some of Herman's posts on a couple of Harpoon sites. I thought to myself "My god, is there even a point in purchasing this?"

Tim,

Thanks for your kind words. Posts like yours make the effort worthwhile, regardless of how much "flak" is aimed at those of us attempting to keep the old girl alive and well.

Cheers

Darren,

well spoken.

A propos "keeping the old girl alive and well": Look in the scenarios/mods/db subsection - seems that Vista John found a little issue in the HUD 3. [;)]

Returning to my scenario under construction...

We should no longer discuss yesterday´s battles. The guy you mentioned is banned from all major sites. His "unbanned buddies", if still around, behave correctly and that´s it.

I don´t see any problems / flaming here.

Let´s all use this chance HUE as a complete relaunch and look forward.

I think there are new pooners around who start the ultimate hobby Naval Warfare with HUE and we should focus on supporting them and bringing the thing forward. HCE is well alive - why shouldn´t ANW 3.10 achieve the same?

Agreed that we need more content creators. But this will come when guys become confident about the game engine and databse support. IMO things are looking far better than in the last years.

Ralf

Yes, his way to do PR all over the web and usenet nearly killed the sim and scared potential users/buyers to death. It´s over.

There IS a point in purchasing it. You will have fun. HUE gives you the full scale of computer Harpoon.

Enjoy pooning!

Cry baby.

There are way too many whiners here. Either buy the product or dont. Whether it is fair or not doesnt matter. Whether you like it or not doesnt matter. Whether you think its just a patch doesnt matter.

Either you buy it or you dont, quit whining about it. Any true fan of Harpoon would not whine about shelling out a fair amount of money with a discount for EVERY Harpoon game + patches + further support for the Harpoon franchise.

*and Harpoon is a niche market, it needs die hards not whiners.

LOL! Are you being serious?

It's like: "shaddap and drink the Kool-Aid". [:D]

Just my 2 cents...

I didn't even know UE was available. I have been out of the loop for a couple of years. I bought the same day I found out about it. Was it expensive? Well not really in my way of thinking and here is why,

Way back in the 2003-5 time frame, there were many that were just hoping that H2AE could be converted to windows. Here we are five years later and it IS a windows game now, no DOS mode swaps etc. Although I prefer H3 over Classic, I play both. I am very pleased that they are still around, and still moving forward.

Does anyone here remember how exciting the possibility of Harpoon MP would be? How about Nuclear release in H3? These are the things that matter.....now it moves forward.

So, I paid the $$, even if I never play the older versions etc etc. It was worth it and until something better comes along, it will remain the best game of its Genre, period.

Yeah, if you simply bought the game it's fine.  Or if you had only previously bought either game, it's fine.  It's those of us who paid for both games and now have to pay again in order to get future patches who get screwed.

And speaking of patches, it's now been more than two months, the UE patches that we were promised are still not here, and MG is ignoring requests for information about them.  With service like that, they want another $35 just for future patches.  What, so they can continue to ignore us?

I have bought all the updates, see I like it and want to support it as best I can. I can see why you are frustrated, but there is probably a good reason that the updates are not out yet. PM someone on Matrix instead of shouting in multiple threads?

I'll try pming Erik.  I don't normally like to do that because the forum is the place for asking questions and getting support.

If you like to give money to a company just for support I think that's great.  Some of us are on a limited budget and just can't afford to do so.  When I buy a game I expect patches for as long as they're being made.  I don't expect to have to fork over more money at a later date to keep the patches coming.

I think that would work, there has to be a reason.

In a sense I can agree, but this is such a 'nitch' product that I want to support it. $50 is something I don't spend on a lark. I could have waited for the update, but I saw that ASGI was trying to release a new package and would give a discount if older versions were purchased. I thought it was a good deal. I want to support it.
