How much

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

£65 is over my "normal" limit of £50 for a game - but I was expecting it this time and also held off purchases of other games in order to get this

Bearing in mind that the price includes 17.5% VAT (UK tax), a physical copy and delivery,

Have you checked that? The download only option cost me £53.99 plus VAT, total £63.44.
Well £65 was the final bill on Paypal - I presume that's what I paid [&:]

^ like I said elsewhere - I was expecting a price in this area (I wasn't for BftB) and more importantly I've not bought a game because I knew this was coming out. Add to that it's Christmas and there you are.

I even bought the physical because it's Christmas so my wife can wrap it up (she won't know I have the DD [:'(] )

I can't see my order on Plimus because I paid by Paypal - but here's a pic of the item on Paypal...

It seems either the Physical price (60.99) already had VAT included, or it wasn't charged (or you were charged extra VAT) - because (as the pic shows) I was charged £60.99 and £4.25 for shipping.

Thinking about it - [&:] - I seem to recall the physical copy seemed like it would be shipped from Germany - so I will probably still have VAT to pay.

I'm not very happy about this - I've just went through the order process again and NOWEHERE does it say I will be subject to an extra charge of VAT.

Nothing you can do about it now - But Erik, I think the store needs to be clear - NO-ONE should be wondering how much something is actually going to cost them when it turns up at the door - which is how I am feeling right now.

Can you (Erik) clarify if I'm going to be asked to shell out more money because the store was not clear about what was being charged?

That's weird, JD. Both times I've bought in the new store, it always itemized VAT before I confirmed the order. Maybe it's because it's the physical copy...

Not in Denmark, anyway (with the exception of certain items, such as alcohol and foodstuffs). I expect it's the same in the rest of the EU.

Well, that's not strictly speaking 100% true, if you're unlucky.

Few words about price... They decided to setup price up to 63,99e for digital download version. In these days it is quite much, when comparing gaming market. I understand, that games like this have a bit different market than, lets say Call of Duty Black ops etc. Small strategy community will pay that price for sure, but on the other hand it will surely block out those who are wondering about this game. This kind of pricing strategy will keep regular gamers out of this scene for sure. Young players like we all were in times of War in Russia, when we got a very good game for decent price and thats how our community raised. But now Matrixgames are outpricing these awesome games in level where this community wont grow like it did in past. My honest opinnion is, that this pricing tactic doesn't work in long run. Make it 49,99e (yeah now its too late, when its released and some bought it already) and there will be a lot more newcomers in scene. Fresh blood who will be addicted in strategy games forever. It is really shame that people doesn't understand economy in long run.

I am an old bastaard and have been addicted to WIR and other similar games (got a closet full of strategy games) and will buy War in the East too.

The other thing that compounds on this is the fact that their are so many sales from the other Digital Distributors lately.. I don't think this was happening at this level a few years ago when WITP came out.. nowadays, especially this time of the year, there is 'steals' out there for all sorts of games..

I'm really tempted to pull the trigger on this, but the 'guilt' factor is hanging over me as well.. My wife never questions anything I buy, and I buy a lot of games.. but lol.. I feel really guilty about pulling the trigger on an 80 dollar game! It would be a first!
