And an impression of the engine production. Needless to say that I have sufficient (modern) aircraft to cover my needs and a ton of obsolete frames in the pool....

Yeah, its under control. I should become an accountant.....
Suva forts drop to 7. Has anyone ever seen a two level drop? Not that this attack qualifies but it would be nice to speed this up in the coming attacks... 3rd tank relieves one of the battered infantry division. We'll go in again in a couple of days. It will take at least a month to secure Fiji I think..

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Yes. You haven't? I've definitely seen it in some of the late game AARs. Maybe its mostly a US thing with all their combat engineers.ORIGINAL: Cannonfodder
Has anyone ever seen a two level drop?
Do it. You have only been burned once by Mundy. And because you were doing the same thing Mundy is doing now...leaving too many ships in a port that was too far forward. ESPECIALLY because I know Brisbane is also in range of bombers from New Caledonia and we know how effective level bombing can be. I've done it to my Japanese opponent too when I launched my only daylight raid of Rangoon (as of Jan 43) when I hit 66/82 in port ships with 137 500 lb bombs and from only ~50 bombers. It was an invasion fleet ready to load up of course. Why else have so many ships waiting in base close to the front? Invasion fleets have pretty good ships too...hard to replace ships. If there are really 180 ships there you could get nearly 1k VP points from a KB+LBA attack I think. And Brisbane is easy to approach as its the most eastern city.ORIGINAL: Cannonfodder
I've discovered 180 ships at Brisbane and I might take a shot at that with my carriers...

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
One of my problems with Brisbane is the general low level of ground bomb training my naval aviators have. My Navy doctrine is based on ship killing at sea, not in port..
This is a game nuance ofcourse. If a bomber pilot was able to hit a moving ship he probably would have less problems with stationary targets but there it is...
Just arrived in Beijing on a nightflight. 1,5 day meeting... Was here before but this time it is very hot, 35+ Celcius and the pollution is killing. You can taste it and feel it when you breathe... It makes me realize how privileged I am to live in an area with clean air and moderate temperatures....

BTW I referenced you in my AAR, but you need to wade through the previous stories (or not). I know this may be construed as copyright infringement, but you might get a kick out of it.

Ha, nice reference...
I'm back from Beijing (nightflight in, 16 hour meetings spread over 1,5 day and nightflight out.. bleuh) but no turn yet from Mundy so no news...

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Not much to report. I am training some navy aviators for ground bombing (non elite, expendable). I've got a decent amount of G3M3s in the pool that can reach Brisbane at full load. Kick off time schedule for operations against the eastern coast are linked with:
- Occupation of Suva. This will release the surface ships and carriers from that area
- Fuel to the front. The AOs need to replenish all relevant combat ships and then go back for seconds....
If I move against Brisbane I'll bring my full might to smash the defenses and prevent naval intervention. Land bombers will then be able to supress local defenses and inflict further damage
At Ceylon I've increased defensive fighter groups to six. Two George, three Tojo and one Nick group... If he tries to bomb port or close the airfields I'll bleed him before he succeeds...

Ceylon
Early May, Mundy reacts to light cruisers harassing his main fighter base at Cochin (over 150 fighters reported). He includes the two remaining British battleships with the TF (So far I spotted 2 BB, 4 CA and a bunch of destroyers). I try to force a night engagement with torpedo cruisers but am unsuccesful.. Mundy comes further south and threatens Colombo... G4Ms strike, escorted by 30+ George fighters, flown by experienced pilots.. Package is delivered

Total air losses over a few days are about 35-40 Japanese aircraft for 140 Allied frames (including a lot of Beaufighters shot down engaging my cruiser/destroyer force near Colombo)... Considering the force odds I'm very happy with the result. If Mundy backs down (for now) from his air campaign over Ceylon I'll consider it a decisive victory for the Japanese.
In addition, Oi makes it back and the heavy fires are put out....

Next turn we'll launch another attack on Suva. Forts are expected to drop to level 5...

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Mundy is going to bleed his air force pilot and aircraft pool dry with those sorts of attacks. Many of the frames being utilized are entirely unfit for this sort of fighting like the Boomerang, Blenheim, and Hudson suggesting that he already has a significant shortage of quality aircraft. His losses to date suggest that as well.

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
I think I stumbled into a decisive battle the way the IJN ment to fight the war... It will be a lot of work to summarize what happened over the last few days and I'm pretty tired from two turns of intense action so I'll post a screenshot with the current situation without giving away the moves for the next turn.. I'm ahead in decks sunk for this battle but a very aggressive charge by a strange assembly of allied ships did get into "secondary KB" doing severe damage to the slow carrier group....
Due note that its not over yet and I expect very intensive surface action next turn..... My battleships are a bit spend but a lot of cruisers are fresh....

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Having some strange slowdowns on the forum tonight... Lag if you will
Anyway, the results for May 19th. Four little DMs drew off my battleship screen, allowing the allied surface forces to catch up to slow KB (Yamato was very low on fuel so she probably caused delay....). I'm not overly happy with Mundy using a lot of small "scrap" TFs to try and syphon of strikes but then again, what would I do if I was in his shoes? I'm not going to complain about it...

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Next turn will see more surface action... If Mundy stays and fights I expect sharp surface action and perhaps a few strikes depending on relative positioning... If Mundy runs with what he has left and battleworthy I will finish of the stragglers and call this one a minor victory.. The loss of decks hurts but it is all relative... And the fast ones are still floating...
Assuming the Saratoga and Lexington will buy it he'll have just the Hornet afloat from the orignal fleetcarriers. He'll have to wait for the Essex class and CVLs to come online before he can attempt offensive action... If anything this will slow his eventual attack down even more....
The victory could and should have been more complete but I bodged it...

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Now is not the time to back down.... The IJN pushes on... Battleships and cruisers do battle in a free for all... The eight fleet carriers move away to the south east during the night and back west to launch aircraft at suspected retreat paths... Lady fortune smiles as Hornet is detected at Gisborne....

RE: DBB:C -Stacking to the limits / Cannonfodder (Japan) vs Mundy (Allies)
Day 4 of the battle, the last day......
Some good, some bad. I had hoped to close down the Gisborne airfield by bombardement. It worked (I think) but unfortunately most of the allies are flying LRCAP from inland fields.. That means that I can't close CAP down and I won't be able to continue attacking based on my current aircraft / sortie / fuel rating.....
My best guess is two fleet carriers sunk. Saratoga is confirmed (a long lance finished her of) and based on the aircraft destroyed on the ground minus bombardement losses I've sunk at least one other fleet carrier (or perhaps a jeep carrying F6Fs? I hope not.... and unlikely considering the amount of SBD3s destroyed on the ground). One "CV" spotted at Auckland but ofcourse that might just be a tanker - Lexington was very damaged and I doubt she made the five hexes in one turn (while only making 2-3 hexes the previous turn) while dodging 3 submarines....(Mundy used all kinds of ships to scatter me)... Some more bad news as the remaining allied surface ships still operational suprise Ashigara and friends and sink her and a destroyer. Tone gets hit by three SAP 500 pounder bombs from Mitchell IIs and is subsequently scuttled by me together with Zuiho and Nagato who were in the 90s system damage and major fires....
Side note: Allies strike Colombo and pay a heavy price for 9 airbase / 9 runway damage....

This is a victory for the IJN, but not as big as it could or should have been.......
