Turn 73, 3/1/42 AGS

The AGS sector has been relatively quiet during the whole winter. The focus of the coming summer will be on the sector of AGS. We are now planning two operations for the coming weeks. We are going to attack on both flanks. Our objective is to capture good starting positions for our summer campaign. We have to move quickly before snow melts and spring rasputitsa begins.

48th Panzer Korps is going to attack east from Kursk. The objective is important railroad junction at Kastornoye. 2nd Hungarian Army and Italian Exp Force are going to guard flanks of this operation.

On the southern flank we are going to capture Donets River bridges at Izium and Krasny Liman. Near the Sea of Azov we are going to advance to the Mius River and capture Matveev Kurgan.

Turn 73, 3/1/42 AGN

The frontline has remained static during the winter. There have been heavy battles on the northern flank near Volkhov. The enemy has suffered severe losses.

We have no plans to advance any further during the next campaign season.

Turn 73, 3/1/42 AGC

We have two limited goals before spring rasputiza.

We are going to advance to the east side of Moscow. We are not going to attack the city. The goal is to gain good positions for the future envelopment of the Moscow Front.

The second objective of the AGC is Tula.

AGS is going to attack near the border of army groups.

Turn 75, 3/8/42 AGC

Tula is captured! It took us five weeks to advance 50 km from Aleksin to Tula. Now it is time to straighten the frontline and secure Tula – Moscow railroad. Our troops are exhausted in this sector.

Meanwhile 3rd Panzer Armee is pushing towards Moscow. The enemy troops south of Moscow are no match to our panzers.

Stalino

9th Panzer Division captured Izium and a bridge over Donets River.

On the south flank we captured Gorlovka. Rumanians are advancing towards Mius River.

Supply situation is not very good. Railheads are a little too far. Let’s see how far we can advance.

We are in the suburbs of Moscow! The enemy line crumbles south of Moscow. Streets are full of retreating artillery. 205th ID is only 10 km from the Kremlin. STAVKA OMSBON special forces guard the city center.

Turn 76, 3/11/42 AGS

Stalino sector

The enemy makes some heavy counterattacks. SS Wiking Division suffered over 50% losses at Gorlovka. The town was lost.

Rumanian 1st Armored Division captured Matveev Kurgan.

Supply situation is too bad to continue much further. Artillery is out of rounds. The offensive began too soon, we should have waited few more weeks.

Very impressive, like your AAR a lot! You are for sure an experienced WitE-player.
Could you comment about a comparison to WitE?
I thought it was sometimes a lot of micromanagement there already, but in this game with regimental and battalion level??? You seem to handle it quite efficiently.[:)]

Turn 77, 3/15/42 AGC

3rd Panzer Armee is pushing forward, we now control the southern half of Moscow. There is a complete chaos in the streets of Moscow. The enemy has no more infantry units on the frontline. We are fighting against remnants of artillery, engineer and HQ units.

I have played WitE, but I'm not very experienced. I think WitE is a little too much micromanagement for me. What I like in WitE is OOB and commanders. I didn't like how the game portrays the first winter. Suddenly your well fortified units were like a paper dolls in front of superhuman russians.

Directive 21 is mainly divisional level game. First turns of the game are the most time consuming. Then the game speeds up.

East front games I can recommend are Decisive Campaigns: Barbarossa and Decisive Campaigns: Case Blue.

Turn 79, 3/22/42 AGC

Most of the Moscow is now in our hands. During the last few days we have captured some ground east of Moscow. Snow is melting and rasputitsa begins soon. It’s not possible now to surround the enemy units NW of Moscow.

Frontline is stabilizing near Tula.
