End of FEB 42 Summary
Well, it has been quite the month.
Here are the basic numbers:
SCORE
Japan: 7443
Allies: 8680
SHIPS/POINTS
Japan-84/1593
(Akagi, Kaga, 3 CVL, 1 CS, 18 DD, more than 25 AP/AK/TK/AO)
Allied- 125/1527
(Enterprise, 2 BB, 2 CA, 3 CL, 20 DD, many AP/AK/TK/AO)
AIRCRAFT POINTS
Japan- 800
Allies- 1091
ARMY LOSSES
Japan- 146
Allies- 2447
This month's carrier battle was around Kendari. Initially, Akagi and Kaga were only moderately damaged, balanced by a sunk Enterprise. Follow up strikes by Saratoga and Yorktown finished Akagi, while Kaga was caught anchored in Port Kendari by B-17s. Saratoga was then nailed by Nell and Betty bombers from AmBONia. She is currently fighting for her life.
The Mogami-san steamroller continues mashing over Macassar and Borneo and soon will have the rest of the SRA/DEI in hand within a month. He is slowly pushing back the hordes in China. I expect Rangoon to soon be under threat as well. Singapore cannot hold out too much longer. I'll begin an evac in about 2 weeks.
Pretty quiet SoPac. Ditto CenPac. That will change somewhere about May.

Raid at Banjarmasin: Force K rides again!
In an attempt to break up the landings, I dispatched Force K (BC HMS Repulse, flag) to the rescue. Too bad I thought of it 2 days too late. They did some damage, but sortied in vain…
Night Time Surface Combat, near Banjarmasin

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese Ground troops Banzai Charge Singapore
221 Japanese casualties reported
491 Allied casualties reported
Wow, that’s surprising.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The loss of Banjarmasin this early is inexcusable. I failed to respond early enough with Force K. What is more perplexing is that over a 2 day period, the SBDs on Banjarmasin failed to attack the APs headed toward the base, and then in the hex itself, and a CV TF with Yorktown at its center failed to launch a single strike at it either.

RE: MARCH 1942
Hi, Bombers on CV will attack enemy TF without too much regard to CAP over target. Bombers other then 4 engine will not attack without escort. The reason so many Japanese TF have been attacked but not that TF was it had all the CAP (almost 100 fighters)

I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

That's right. Explains the lack of whacking by LBA. Shouldn't CV aircraft have attacked though?ORIGINAL: Mogami

Hi, A CV aircraft is an aircraft on a CV. A Landbased aircraft is an aircraft deployed from an airfield. Not aircraft type. A Dauntless on an airfield is not a CV aircraft.

I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

For the first time in the game the Japanese score exceeds the Allied score.

didn't realize Singapore was in such peril
Mogami:
didn't you notice those units marching down the coast all that time? The ones that captured the base that had been empty for 2 months?
Can you guess the name of the port in the Pacific that is going to be the busiest place on the planet for the next couple of weeks?
DadMan:
No, I didn't pick up on it. I thought it would take longer for them to get to Singapore, which will now become a quite yummy hunting ground for subs...

Japanese forces CAPTURE Singapore base !!!
Nearly 40 aircraft are lost.
A sad day has come about 2 weeks too early. I should have realized that the troops that took Khota Bharu were moving more quickly than they were.
BACKCHANNEL COMMUNICATION-
Mogami-san:
Banzai, Banzai, Banzai
For the first time in the game the Japanese score exceeds the Allied score.
DadMan:
didn't realize Singapore was in such peril
Mogami:
didn't you notice those units marching down the coast all that time? The ones that captured the base that had been empty for 2 months?
Can you guess the name of the port in the Pacific that is going to be the busiest place on the planet for the next couple of weeks?
DadMan:
No, I didn't pick up on it. I thought it would take longer for them to get to Singapore, which will now become a quite yummy hunting ground for subs...

Great entertainment guys, liked the carrier battle! Did your carrier make it Dadman?
I'm somewhat uncertain about what I should do with the troops in Singapore and Mersing (the base just to the north right)
in my game against 2ndACR. It seems so futile to hang around waiting for the steamroller to approach. There are 6 forts at Mersing and I got almost 40k troops there.
My opponent has sent 2-3 divisions straight into Burma, forcing me to abandon Rangoon in the first days of January 42.
With the Imp div + other major forces engaged in Burma, could it be possible that the remaining troops in Malaya will have a hard time reducing my forts and capturing Singapore?
If I move now, I could save several Australian brigades - if not they will most likely perish.
Btw, we're playing Lemurs mod.
Can you old war horses give a first time Allied WitP player some advice here?
Also been thinking about deploying the AVG to Singapore and then move in some bombers. This will give me striking power and cause difficulties for the Japs. When the situation gets difficult, it would then become necessary to withdraw the air units back to Java. Does this sound like a worthwhile risk?
