Japanese attacks on Port Moresby

Result of that attack: an AK offloading precious supplies was severely damaged when struck by a couple of bombs and two torpedoes. Not good. [:(]

And it only gets worse. That second Japanese carrier task force to the north next weighs into the fray, with the beleaguered Port Moresby fighter defense fewer and more tired now than before.

Is this the end? Can the brave but paltry defenders of Port Moresby further resist this tsunami of Imperial aggression?

Not this time. Though they have fought back with valor and honor, the Japanese horde forces it way through to wreck more havoc in the harbor of Port Moresby.

But wait! The command at Port Moresby is now informed that the Japanese Admiral has made a terrible mistake, that he has maneuvered his TFs to within range of the port's fighters, and that these stalwart knights may escort the bombers afterall . . . and so out the lumbering messengers of death do fly . . . to mete out revenge . . . for king and for country!

Can this be right? Only 18 Zeros on CAP over the enemy task force? Do our bombers now have a chance to get through?

Coolness :)

Anyway, it's not that bad to lose some AKs and APs in exchange for him blunting his CV capable aircraft on your CAP

Well, those transports were there unloading much needed men and supplies. I don't want to lose them you know. But every superior Japanese pilot you kill is a victory in and of itself. (And dropping bombs on a flattop into the bargain! Who could ask for more? [:D])

But the fighting wasn't over yet. Those Japanese carriers still had another punch to throw each.

As a result of the bomb hits she bore above Rochussen soon after sank at her berthing station. Also lost in the day's fighting was transport Lepus. Reports filtering in later the same day that IJN minelayer Katsuriki had finally succumbed to wounds she had suffered in the battles involving the Timor Island landing previously did not make up for the loss of these two invaluable transports at Port Moresby.

Allied bombers take the war to the air

Post by Tristanjohn »

The action around Port Moresby has cooled off for the past couple of days, but while the Japanese are licking their wounds [:D] Allied air power continues to hit the enemy wherever he can be found. Yesterday British bombers out of Dacca and Chandpur laid lethal packages on the Japanese spearhead slogging its way through the jungles of Burma.

Meanwhile, China, too, was striking back at its tormentors, as for the second day in a row air strikes out of Chungking flew south to bomb the factories in the Japanese-occupied city of Changsha.

24 April 1942

The air war continues in Burma as British Wellington and Blenheim bombers based on Chandpur continue to pound the Japanese at Lashio.

While similar treatment is extended around the clock to the occupiers of Mandalay.
