I won't do ariel mining until the routine is mended, otherwise it would be an ideal place to launch from. Being immune to fighters is waay to gamey for my tastes, i might bring it up with joe if the airfield icon isnt lit then maybe do some. Heavy bombers on port attack will have to suffice until the game gets another 'mend'.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 07/20/43

Well i did say the malacca straights were dangerous waters. S-38 was attacked twice by DD groups and twice hit by a/c , she later sank off singapore with all hands [:(]

SS Ray in the bonin islands sank a japanese PG on ASW patrol but was badly damaged by the rest of the ASW group.

SS Sealion sighted a Tanker coming out of Palembang harbour, lined up for the shot and missed ! I don't find many tankers and he's added stealth coating to them to boot [;)]

SS Herring was hit by ASW a/c out of formosa and will have to return to midway for repairs.

Seems as though as soon as I say the sub war is going well, it goes pearshaped again, maybe best if i don't mention it at all [;)]

Going round the clock as i do the orders:-

Aleutians

battleships hit the nip on attu one again.

Naval bombardment of Attu Island, at 92,34

Allied Ships
BB Arizona
DD O'Bannon
DD Anthony

BB California
BB Pennsylvania
CA New Orleans

CL Phoenix

Japanese ground losses:
465 casualties reported

Cant be many places to hide here by now. Normal assault again tomorrow .. lets try and shift
them again.

USA.

More troops load up for transit to australia. bit of everything really. infantry/base units
seebees. normal routine stuff.

S Pacific.

Quiet, japan recons baker and canton while I recon tarawa and apanamama <sp>. Nothing planned here
in the near future, i 'may' completely ignore the pacific and drive up new guinea and down sumatra in force.

SW Pacific ..

humm .. the 17's are tired and in bad morale shape .. esp after this

badly in need of R&R,,

Better news over thursday island. 1st forward operational deployment of the P47c. 72 of them
along with 48 wildcats should now scare off any japanese bombing attempts, he is too late
to stop this place expanding now [;)]. The P47's are also in range of PM too. will all help
with the land umbrella for the invasion force.

speaking of which, the CV's are steaming past pearl harbour and i estimate 2-3 weeks for the
launch of the invasion, barring any disasters.

North australia.

Fighter sweep of Timor for tomorrow, high alt with 72 lightnings, averag experience though at
55 so i dont expect a massive slaughter of japs, but i should have height advantage at 25k ft.

Darwin continues to serve as the main strategic sub base for the DEI and holds 19 damaged subs
right now, most will be operational within a week or 2. Japan rarely sinks one of my subs but she
can damage them well enough to port them for weeks at a time. dratted sallys !

Commonwealth theatre.

Fighters flown in to the new sumatran base and 17's out of sabang i think broke up a
japanese night run with several DD's

Day Air attack on TF at 21,47

Allied aircraft
Beaufighter VIC x 5
B-17E Fortress x 30

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
DD Amatsukaze
DD Asagiri, Bomb hits 1, on fire
DD Shiratsuyu
DD Naganami, Bomb hits 1
DD Ikazuchi, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage 2000lb bomb [:D]
DD Tachikaze

This was a PM strike, the AM one missed everything so i'm happy that even very good 17's cant
flatten outright DD groups.

Covering tomorrows troop convoy is 3 CL's and 10 DD's so i'm well covered unless he
launches the battlewagons at me.

Concentrated attack on rangoon tomorrow. 3 RN battleships and 4 CA's will bombard rangoon
sailing from the andaman islands. While the bombers at mandalay will it the Oil and the
bombers from Akyab will attack the resources. Recon has been running for 2 weeks so i am
hopeing for good results. lightning and P40B's flying LR CAP from andaman and just in case
16 beaufighters will fly from akyab in case the weather prevents launch.

China

Bombers hit the resources at hong kong for 4 days running

Day Air attack on Hong Kong , at 43,42

Allied aircraft
P-40N Warhawk x 33
B-25J Mitchell x 35

No Allied losses

Resources hits 4

Time for a rest, half damaged for the cost of 3 bombers and 2 pilots, seems like a fair exchange [;)]

piccie of my 'ooze' from the north of australia, just a ruse in reality but he's keeping
fighters in timor which would be better used in sumatra. same with tarawa.

WOW !

two days of bloody air battles

First up ( and pictured below ) the air attacks japan makes on the troops convoy
unloading in sumatra :-

Day Air attack on TF, near Kuala at 20,43

Japanese aircraft
A6M3a Zero x 49
G4M1 Betty x 34
Ki-43-IIa Oscar x 38
Ki-21 Sally x 6
Ki-48 Lily x 17

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 15
Spitfire Vb x 11
Beaufighter Mk 21 x 12
P-40E Warhawk x 11
P-40N Warhawk x 14

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3a Zero: 43 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 9 destroyed, 14 damaged
Ki-43-IIa Oscar: 30 destroyed
Ki-21 Sally: 2 destroyed
Ki-48 Lily: 2 destroyed, 2 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane II: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged
Spitfire Vb: 1 destroyed
Beaufighter Mk 21: 11 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 6 damaged
P-40N Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 4 damaged

Allied Ships
CL Achilles
CL Leander
DD Edwards
AP Rochussen
CL Enterprise, Bomb hits 1
DD Warramunga
DD Le Triomphant
DD Panther

After watching the replay, the Spits did a wonderful job and the beau's were also remarkable
as thay seemed to be very very active in the combat and despite getting the most losses
they were the best a/c after the spits in inflicting damage. As you can see the escorts
were slaughtered but most of the bombers got through. fortunately he's not operating
from a size 4 airfield ( no idea why ?) so the betties aren't torpedo equipped (thankfully)

Even day 2 he came back with similar results, although i don't know where he got the extra
fighter escorts from [&:]).

Day Air attack on TF, near Kuala at 20,43

Japanese aircraft
A6M3a Zero x 43
G4M1 Betty x 35
Ki-43-IIa Oscar x 36
Ki-21 Sally x 9
Ki-48 Lily x 16

Allied aircraft
Hurricane II x 9
Spitfire Vb x 15
Beaufighter Mk 21 x 3
P-40E Warhawk x 7
P-40N Warhawk x 12

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3a Zero: 30 destroyed
G4M1 Betty: 5 destroyed, 6 damaged
Ki-43-IIa Oscar: 26 destroyed
Ki-21 Sally: 3 damaged
Ki-48 Lily: 3 destroyed, 4 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane II: 2 destroyed, 3 damaged
Spitfire Vb: 5 destroyed, 4 damaged
Beaufighter Mk 21: 3 destroyed
P-40E Warhawk: 4 destroyed
P-40N Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 4 damaged

Allied Ships
CL Leander, Bomb hits 2, on fire
AP Ariadne Moller, Bomb hits 2, on fire
CL Enterprise
CL Achilles
DD Vendetta
DD Van Galen
AP Van Cloon
DD Le Triomphant

Thats one heck of a lot of dead japanese fighters and more importantly pilots.

CL Leander is at 25 sys damage and 8 flooding so she will continue to provide escort,
the AP is is in a similar state so not badly damaged. I cant replace the fighters in the
base however as supply is too low ( i think, air HQ in sabang should allow it though).

The Rangoon attack was a huge success .. apart from one DD hitting a mine [X(]and escorts
had bombardments turned off too. 6 MSW will try and sweep the port under LR CAP .. i just hope the
shore batteries arent upto much .. actually scrub that .. would be too dangerous.

Naval bombardment of Rangoon, at 29,34 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!

Japanese aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-46-III Dinah: 2 destroyed
H8K Emily: 1 destroyed

25 Coastal gun shots fired in defense.
Allied Ships
CA Exeter
CA Cornwall, Shell hits 12
CA Suffolk
CA Devonshire
BB Resolution
BB Valiant
BB Warspite

Japanese ground losses:
3287 casualties reported [8D]
Guns lost 28

Airbase hits 20
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 124
Port hits 1
Port supply hits 1

Revenge for Rennel island ! .. the bombers destroyed the oil utterly and 1/2'd resource
production too.

e.g

Day Air attack on Rangoon , at 29,34

Allied aircraft
Boomerang II x 7
Liberator VI x 9
Beaufighter VIC x 7
Beaufighter Mk 21 x 3
P-40N Warhawk x 16
B-25J Mitchell x 34

No Allied losses

Resources hits 8

Day Air attack on Rangoon , at 29,34

Allied aircraft
Wellington III x 39
Liberator VI x 20
Beaufighter VIC x 25
F-5A Lightning x 3
B-25J Mitchell x 50
B-17E Fortress x 13

No Allied losses

Oil hits 18

thats day 2 results , day 1 was similar. all bombers set to finish off the resources next turn.

Also as a suprise the B17's attacked shipping unloading ? in singapore harbour, the fighter
cover was far less than expected

Day Air attack on TF, near Singapore at 23,50

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 18
Ki-43-IIa Oscar x 8

Allied aircraft
B-17E Fortress x 16

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 1 destroyed, 4 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
B-17E Fortress: 4 damaged

Japanese Ships
AP Meigen Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire
PG Edo Maru
AK Myoko Maru, Bomb hits 2, on fire

all hits were 2000lb bombs .. so AK Myoko Maru is toast [;)]

Bombardment group still heading back to andaman is. so it'll be 2 more turns before they return
to Rangoon .. judging by the results on Rennel island i can destroy the support personel/structure
with 3 attacks roughly.

Further south the fighter sweeps over Timor were a roaring succes much to my suprise.

Day Air attack on Koepang , at 28,77

Japanese aircraft
A6M3a Zero x 15
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 36

Allied aircraft
Catalina I x 1
P-38G Lightning x 71

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3a Zero: 6 destroyed, 2 damaged
Ki-61 KAIc Tony: 17 destroyed, 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-38G Lightning: 8 destroyed, 9 damaged

day 2

Day Air attack on Koepang , at 28,77

Japanese aircraft
A6M3a Zero x 9
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 13

Allied aircraft
Catalina I x 1
P-38G Lightning x 51

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3a Zero: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged
Ki-61 KAIc Tony: 10 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Catalina I: 1 damaged
P-38G Lightning: 4 destroyed, 2 damaged

Rest needed badly now .. but well done boys ! Unfortunatley even with the subs set to pick up
downed pilots 12 were lost [8|]. but thats attrition i guess.

35-12 is a good result though.

In the aleutians the attack didnt happen ? must have forgotten to set it properly .. ok so
reset for tomorrow.

Well thats it for tonight gentlemen .. hopefully more tomorrow ..

Oh boy Joe must be mad about those air to air losses! [;)]&nbsp;....not to mention about the Rangoon adventure!&nbsp;[:)]&nbsp; He must be on low supplies when you look at those RN bombardment results!

How can you tell he's on low supplies by bombardment results [&:] only 5 supply hits so thats 5% depleted yes?

Maybe i've missed some piece of WitP lore [;)]

I made that assumption on the high ground troop "casualties"! I mean + 3000 men disabled is not a good sign.

Also, How can he move supplies into Burma? You do control Malacca strait via Sabang and if you continue to harash him with RN & RAF he is definately in trouble.

I see your point but he's got overland to saigon and bangkok, athough the 17's hit some merchantmen
unloading in bangkok harbour so maybe he is getting a bit supply short, after all i have levelled all
'easy' resource targets in range.

In another 2 days characterised by many many air attacks on transports unloading at kuala base
in sumatra. Compared to yesterday the numbers on both side were much reduced. (see piccie) on day 2 no P40's
even flew and had to rely on 5 spits5 beufighters and 4 hurricanes ! . needless to say
some bombers got through but one one AK was hit by a 500lb sally delivered bomb. he has moved
the betties to level 4 fields at last but they were chopped out of the sky on day one and
ran away when engaged on day 2 , so morale problems for him i guess.

here is some examples of the air war.

Day Air attack on TF, near Kuala at 20,43

Allied Ships
AK Empire Scout
PG Isabel
AK Legazpi
AK Princess of Negros, Bomb hits 1, on fire

actually thats all of them [;)]

total tally brits lose 9 including those crashing on landing , japan lost 62 .. so i am
rather pleased with that. The troops convoy had already left and only supply ships were
attacked.

Kuala also expanded to a size 2 AF rather timely, so 50 more fighters will be flown in.
Actually i have flown out the spits and hurricanes to be rebuilt at sabang and flown in
50 P40B's 16 corsairs and 16 hurricanes, should prove to be enough i think. Although
andaman is. is a bit CAP short so no allied BB coastal attacks this turn. need recon
on victoria point anyway. However CA Devonshire and 4 CL's will hit the japanese airfields
at georgetown where betties flew from last turn. hopefully his coastal defences are weak[&o]

Brit Cv's and the entire non BB RN ships in sabangg awaiting any opportunities that
micht crop up.

Aztez - Yup he cant sail anything up the west coast of malaya and even singapore is looking
dangerous for him, this will only get worse as i expand southward in sumatra. Although the
going is slow to say the least, another inf brigade an HQ and arty are following along
behind the crack indian division to the next target 120 miles away through jungle and
mountains. Recon says 2 units , both i suspect base forces as vengence dive bombers
went on the offensive today.

Day Air attack on 133rd IJN Base Force, at 20,45

Allied aircraft

Allied aircraft losses

Japanese ground losses:
131 casualties reported
Guns lost 2

Multiple attack on Rangoon's resources have shut them down for good now. 3 more attacks
in a similar vein to this were launched succesfully in clear weather ( for a change)

Submarines had a good day too :-

Sub attack near Shanghai at 52,39

Japanese Ships
AK Burma Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Allied Ships
SS Jack

later attacked again and sunk .. time to leave shanghai as i expect retaliation next turn.

Also anothet merchantman was attacked heading to kendari and sunk.

also of rather more significance are 2 Jap BB's sighted in kendari port.

Day Air attack on TF, near Kendari at 33,71

Allied aircraft
B-24D Liberator x 19

Allied aircraft losses
B-24D Liberator: 1 destroyed, 7 damaged

Japanese Ships
BB Kongo, Bomb hits 3
BB Mutsu, Bomb hits 2
CA Ashigara

The damage was negligable. but the fact that they are here suggest he's worried about a
drive north form Dariwn , a very real possibility . but not yet as i want to secure safe sailing
around the north of australia first and for that i need southern new guinea.

In the South West Pacific, Rennel island finally repairs the damage and start expanding the
airfields and port again, the torp bombers havn't attaracted attention from japan yet so i
have flown in a few fighters for local defence and limited escort. the PT boats are out of
fuel again .. but a large troops/evac convoy is sailing up from luganville covered
by P38's and P40B's . This will deposit more engineers and pick up the worst affected
troops that have suffered greatly at the island. Next turn i'll send in a decent surface action
group if i can keep the runways open to protect them with air cover. Actually i'll send one in
this turn, 4 BB's [:D], 4 more in luganville and some more escorts sailing up from noumea.
Lets hope they make it in one piece.

The 17's at luganville are still badly shaken and morale is in the 50's with 1/3 of the
planes non-operational, 2 more days rest and lunga isn't reapiring very quickly according
to F5 recon flights.

Thats about it .. interesting turns ahead.

EDIT- forgot to mention the god awful attack on the japs at attu island ..

Ground combat at Attu Island

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 33996 troops, 260 guns, 18 vehicles, Assault Value = 520

Defending force 14089 troops, 0 guns, 13 vehicles, Assault Value = 227

Allied max assault: 556 - adjusted assault: 358

Japanese max defense: 141 - adjusted defense: 22

Allied assault odds: 16 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
333 casualties reported
Vehicles lost 2

Allied ground losses:
459 casualties reported
Guns lost 16

SIGH ... why oh why cant i kill them off !

I think you are using good strategy at the moment. Those inland supply routes you described will not bring in enough supplies to Burma. (or I don't think so) ...and as you said Malacca strait is shutdown for good. That will spell trouble for Joe anyway you look at it! [;)]
&nbsp;
Hmpf, those Japanese at Attu seem invulnerable! [8|]

I think they are BORG .. [:o], cybernetic super troops that dont need food and morale is meaningles to them [;)].. A division is heading here and i'd rather kill them off before it arrives so he wont know its there ,, BUT i may need it to finally subdue this lot. Either way i'm attacking every day for while regardless of loss/disruption etc. wish i had some spare tanks for here.

Thank for the compliment on strategy too .. <head inflating > It's evolved really from japanese moves and the loss of the early CV's made me look closely at what could be done without naval air support. the sumatran operation is going better than i expected, although it's always going to be slow unless i could guarantee air superiority and get some invasion fleets running, with that in mind, thats the reason im poaching fighters from the americans and NZealanders for commonwealth use.

hopefully get another turn from Joe this evening but i rather suspect he's off at a fireworks display ( guy Fawkes day). Actually i'd like to be able to join him, although its freezing ouside right now.

OK back to more interesting stuff ..

through without much in the way of loss.

AP Heiwa Maru
AP Hino Maru #3, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

Heavy losses for the kittyhawks. and the Tojo's riddled the Torpedo bombers hence the
bad results. never mind ..

Japanese raids on unloading transports in sumatra ..

Even with 100 a/c defending i suspect fatigue ( from flying in last turn) made the
combat a bit in favour of japan. Also i suspect that the japanese dross pilots
died in the past 4 days so only the elite came on today.

Japanese ground losses:

nice one boys.

Remember i was going to exchange the slow AK's for fast ones at sydney ?.. yes skip next line
no ... for the US and commonwealth fighters i'm stealing for the british theatre.

Well the AK's all bloody upgraded and now have sys damage 11-12 .. thats another weeks
delay at least . as the AR's moved upto townsville. [:(] The upside is that they
all now mount radar (on a merchantman ?)and have 20 AA guns too .. quite cool really.

The 4 BB's made it safely to Rennel , so these and the PT's should dissuade any more
bombardment runs. and a few more CA(2) CL(2) DD(4) sent up from luganville to
round out the task force. still leaving another similar sized group in luganville
for when they have to retire as there isn't any fuel at rennel ( and wont be for some time
as its a level 0 port). Or else i run merchant men up and refuel from them instead.

The CV Hornet 2 has loaded up its VT5 (torp bombers) that have been size 4 and living
in the south pacific since the original sank. fingers crossed they will improve into
the proper unit size, but after being on land who can say [&:].

the other carriers are 1 day out from a refuel stop at pago . then aukland then townsville
then invade port moresby.

Oddly enough something interesting happened in canada ! , well sort of interesting
54 C47 commanda transport planes arrived at prince rupert ( all damaged). will take a while
to fix them up and fly them down to San Fran, just to pack them up again for shipping
to australia [;)]

piccie of another air attack on sumatra.

One odd thing, the planes i flew out of kuala to sabang to rebuild didn't , the new fragments
arrived in Pagan of all places ? no air HQ even there ! . i cannot fathom this unit
re-appearing lark at all. not i have to rail them to madras and sail the blighters
down to sumatra .. bah .I'm getting grumpy in my old age[:)]

bye

Scroll down to Black Mamba's post.

You need another Canadian squadron flying C47s to do this, though.

And don't tell me this would be too gamey for Saint Rob the Innocent! [;)]

LOL . Saint Rob the innocent has a nice ring to it [:D]

Think i should send an application to the vatican ? [;)]

Actually one small snag is I'm not catholic, but given todays politically correct posturing could i be the 1st non-catholic saint? [;)]

Actually it doesn't strike me as gamey anyway, commonwealth troops being diverted to SEAC is fine in my book, as i stated back in that old post.

Completely forgotten it though VSWG, thanks for the link [8D]

Have to check and see when another similar unit arrives, might not be feasible but worth checking.

augustus [:D]- you far too quiet here. BTW got my curtains delivered today so if i can't get kiwi Dave to help put them up, best bring down the electric drill when you come over for the move [;)]

no new turn from Joe today, being at college and discovering beer and girls seems to distract him from the important things in life (like this game ! )..

update when i can.

Pauk -- LOL, yup super penguins , shame they are in the wrong hemisphere though [;)]. Now where is that unit of tame polar bears when i need it. [:D]

Attu is.

The same ! .. although allied troops have little in the way of fatigue, and disruption is minimal
so the attacks will continue.

all in all

3 Bombarment groups , each having a BB and escorts shelling too.
Multiple air raids
and at least 20-1 combat odds, do i need higher odds to shift them.

Another infantry division is about a week away, that will definatel shift the odd
much higher in my favour, maybe i need them. at least once its over these RCT's will
have progressed from very average stats/commanders to some hardened combat units.

44-1 and i still cant get the F^%$£$S to surrender. The troops need a rest.

that was actually the worst attack for me .. only loss too.

I have ordered a deliberate attack on the japanese next turn , before he gets the troops
out of the jungle . i doubt it will succeed but he should be disrupted by the continous
air raids so fingers crossed.

ok thats it . bye

Image

EDIT .. chinese bombers at 100ft strafed 2 gunboats but the 6 50cal guns did little
damage it seems .. back to 6000 ft and a raid on Hong Kong port tomorrow.

ALSO .. seems we have a wee bug. Joes aircraft in Lunga arent repairing at all ! should be
1-2 per day then he can evac fragments out . BUT not happening for some odd reason, so all the
bombers i hit on the runways last turn were damaged relics from the previous raid. In a gesture
of fair play i have stood down the B17's and the avengers in rennel so he can evac some a/c
by ship. It seems he has rather a lot of pilots to get clear and the daft game engine wont let him.
so a 4 day cessation of naval attacks in the solomons . wont stop me flying sweeps etc though.
That said the rennel fighters could do with a 2 day defensive break, the munda raid cost me a
few good pilots it seems. As an aside to all players , i have noticed a definate improvement of
lost pilots if the target hex has a sub in it to rescue downed pilots which they then teleport
to the main unit. also a line of subs along bomber routes also helps a lot . maybe 50% less pilot
losses.

Also Rennel made a port level 1 ( much to my suprise) so fuel can be sent and stored here.
good news for the PT boats. The 'spare' 4 BB's in luganville are sent to brisbane then
upto townsville for bombardment attacks on PM 1-2 days before the actual landings. OR
i may place a BB or 2 in the landing TF to absorb the coastal defensive shelling. most
likely i'll do both. the fast BB's are already with the CV's .

now thats definately it .. so much for a quick update [;)]

The additional loss he will have sustained from the retreat (20% ish) of permanent kills
from the total japanese force will be awful. Looks like i may have underestimated the
effect of ground attack missions. also the loss of 3 divs into the jungle hex hurt him
critically. I'd like to think brilliant play seduced him into covering his flanks too well
but in reality it was a mis-adventure by britain that accidentally led to a desperate
last try before giving up. [:D]

thats all folks . next post will be air losses for the day

Hi Rob,

Just wanted to say congrats on a great AAR! Just finished reading it through definately a productive use of work time [:D].

Still a newbie to this but have you thought of building up the nicobar islands into an airbase I think they are a level 0(1) or 0(2) dot hex hex and therefore build up fairly rapidly. (In my AI game only took 4 or 5 days to level 1) It would enable you to cycle in those short range spits from Andamann

Hi Powloon, Thank you for your praise, much appreciated. Regarding the nicobar islands, unfortunately its the jump from akyab to andaman thats the problem in range. andaman to sabang is doable direct. however building it up might be an idea if i had spare engineers. unlike the americans there is a shortage of engineers for the commonwealth (relatively).

Ive had to frag myself away from medieval 2 to do this [;)]

PC Gamitsu Maru #1

Allied Ships
SS Greenling, hits 2

august begins (almost) with a sub attack at truk, SS Greenling made 2 more attacks and had
duds in both cases, the japanese PC's caused no appreciable damage but need more torps. back to
Townsville for a reload.

Hong kong gets hit again but the ships have left:-

Day Air attack on Hong Kong , at 43,42

No Allied losses

Japanese ground losses:
136 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Runway hits 18
Port hits 2
Port supply hits 7

Port moresby however was a bot of a disaster today. I'd just stood down most of the lightnings
in australia as he hasnt put any planes here for ages. murpheys law is alive and well.

Day Air attack on 56th Division, at 53,91

Japanese aircraft
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 24

Allied aircraft losses
P-38G Lightning: 2 destroyed
B-24D Liberator: 2 destroyed, 11 damaged

the heavy bombers were all sent home at the mere sight of the japanese planes, looks like i'll
have to keep an eye on thier morale more now he's defending the place again.

also the P47's combat debut in a2a combat was a disaster as the loaded fighter bombers were jumped
by the same tony's

Day Air attack on 56th Division, at 53,91

Japanese aircraft
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 17

P-47C Thunderbolt x 63

Allied aircraft losses

Japanese ground losses:
26 casualties reported

EEK ! ..

only 4 pilots lost in the end so not bad considering. all bombers to rest as morale has
plummeted to the 30's.

Rennel island in the SW pacific is doing well level 3 airfield and plenty of AV support.
The covering Battleships are deterring the japanese fleet for now. I wouldn't want him to
send in the Yamato and Mushashi to test these old ballewagons, might be a disaster.

More good news, Hornets torpedo group bounced back to full strength in aukland so no need
to scour the map for CV capable replacements. The other CV's 2 days out from
aukland and all bar 1 american CV has upgraded to F6F Hellcats which have to be an
improvement over the elderly and out dated wildcats.

The fast AK's repairing in sydney now have the AR's to help out. hopefully 4 days
to get them down to a safe level of 4-5 system each. then a/c to help the commonwealth
can be sent out. I'll also send up some seebees ( spares in noumea) to help out
in sumatra. Its a long trip and potentially dangerous but it's been a while
since he raided the india-australia convoys, and i'm not wasting valuable CV's
on escort runs.

Ground combat in Burma continues to be bloody.

Allied ground losses:
4040 casualties reported B*^%$r me !
Guns lost 67
Vehicles lost 5

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

3 divs forced back and im pretty sure 2 were sent packing last turn too. Allies losses are getting
out of hand though. 6 brigades look like the piccie below, are moving back to mandalay
for much needed rest. the others on the front will rest up for 2 days while the heavy
artillery continues to pond away at japan. fotunately the succesful attack didn't have
many of the forces i'd sent down from mandalay ( one hex away now) so the semi-damaged
tank units will arrive tomorrow with 2 more division and 3 brigades.

In sumatra, many spits are 6 days out of sabang and huge supply convoys unloading
and heading here from karachi. don't want to get caught short later on as the BB's suck
up fuel like thirsty desert arabs who havnt seen an oasis in weeks [;)]

In another diversionary move, Wake island will get bombed by 60 odd Liberators, no fighters
are present to annoy me and i'd like to kill a few emilys. been running 2 recon bombers for
one week in advance so the results should be ok.

All B25's in china now to attack at 6000ft naval setting. some skip bombing went well.
yesterday.

Day Air attack on TF at 40,45

Allied aircraft
B-25J Mitchell x 3

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
AK Akitsushima Maru, Shell hits 8, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage

2 more similar attacks from wuuchow will sink 2 more AK's.

Wih the additional tanks i'm deliberately attacking again tomorrow as i really dont
want him to re-inforce if possible. I imagine he's scrabbling to get out of that jungle hex.
2 units have already left it but allied bombing has slowed down the other divisions.

The goal in burma is rangoon, non malarial large base for rest and recouperation
without the dratted mosquitos ( non 2E varient) making everyones life miserable.

16 more b25's moved to wuuchow along with 24 P40's as base cover. the other
chinese B25 are operating out of pakhoi ( to the west of wuuchow) and thier
presence has stopped japan from shipping out the resources accumulating
at hanoi ?. well the base on the coast anyway. Joe's been moaning about the
auto supply system and would love to move these resources to saigon or bangkok
to ship em out. but he can't [;)]. Thus the first real threat to japanese imports
comes from the chinese airforce, somewhat improbable in real life mind you [:D].

That was it really, so spent some time over the submarine fleet, shifting ones around
and sending out 10 more from darwin to the DEI as they are no longer needed for supply runs.

O19+O20 the super dutch minelayers did eventually get mended in sydney and have arrived
safe and sound in darwin. they have been tasked to mine all japanese ports in the DEI.
starting with Kendari which has been host to some BB's in the recent weeks. I wonder
if he left many minesweepers around the DEI as i have been unable to effectively use
mines here for quite some time. FYI argonaut upgraded way back in 42 and was sunk
sometime in the middle of 42 iirc.

The Cv's have been ordered from Aukland to brisbane as the new arrivals are closeby now.
Discovered some new TBM torpedo bomber varient that i had completely missed earlier
and ordered upgrading ASAP. 2 of the new arriving rebuilt CV's had some useless
devasators on them ! just as well as i checked. they will upgrade in brisbane. and it
shouldnt impact on timing the invasion of PM. Only 1 CV based fighter group left to upgrade to
hellcats. only one replenishment CVE has hellcats so lets hope the losses arent too bad.

As an aside, those allied replenishment CVE's are a real drain on pilots and planes so
all reinforcements are off as soon as the blighters arrive, unfortunaltey can't do
anything about the ones that arrive on day 1 of the 2 days turns as they auto upgrade
and grab 54 fighters that i would prefer in front line units.

I really do prefer 2 day turns, not just as it really speeds up the game, but it does
take away some micro management that i know some players would really hate to lose. I
view it thet the commander in chief cant dictate the exact operating plans of the
front line units which is left to the AI ( local commanders). so making sure you don't
have a complete gimp in charge is crucial.

fingers crossed i get another turn today. Back to whacking the french in medieval 2.
If anyones interested i had a nice suprise (nasty really) last night as a chain of
events out of my control made the pope excommunicate me after the french gerrymandered
the papal eletion and made england sue for peace with france in a war that they started !
Also had my king burnt as a heretic along with his heir ! none of my nobles are
very pious so inquisitors merrily burn my aristorcracy with papal blessing. I'm
just happy none have entered the home islands yet as my non-poius, sexually active
adn heavy drinking generals are stuck in london making whoopee while i have to
rely on local captains to fight the good fight against the french. I have a nasty
feeling my royal line is going to detiorate into ineffectual pleasure seekers and no
clue how i can make the good god fearing catholics [;)].. get the game everyone it;s
great. not as good as WitP though.

ok enough rambling.

piccie of the solomons , plenty of japanese shipping for my subs to harass.
