So that is 38 sorties by B-17s. Results 4 sunk and 4 damaged.

Not quite. The heavy bomber boys tried claiming all the credit but they were a side show after the first attack.

Here is a little more even handed account of the battle.

A couple of very quiet turns...Andy turned back home after raiding my damaged
cv's. The Shoho sank1 hex outside of Truk [:(]Gained 26 float damage in one day - R.I.P.

The fleet has been reorganized and I got trained Zeke groups for 6 fleet carriers and semr
trained groups for the rest. Truk is now heavily fortified and I'm sending mauled air groups
back to the Philippines and China. Going to keep several untrained units at Truk to try out my
new air doctrines.

Not getting anywhere on Kavieng - guess we have to nibble away at the enemy there and try to wear
him down. The question is: should I keep my troops there for as long as possible to deny the Admiralities
to Andy? If I do this the bulk of the troops will be lost. Troops for time: not how I'd prefer it but
I'm afraid that's how it will have to be. 1 month will provide enough preparation points to release another
trained division from China.

I wonder how those Allied troops on Kavieng can be so tough.

After you finish researching the George you might put as many points as you can into the A7M!
It's a carrier-capable fighter, after all.. I've done some testing with it, it seems to eat hellcats for breakfast [:)]

It's much easier to capture a base and destroy the defenders than to repulse attackers.
In the first instance you only need a 2-1 odds while the latters requires a gradual destruction of the troops.
We have already achieved a 6-1 odds once and that didn't help much.

On the other side..the same applies for Andy, so it will take a lot of time for him to clear my heavily defended
bases. Much longer than he anticipates me thinks [;)] Majuro is still holding out without much supplies and inflicting
casualties.

Alikchi, the same units that are researching the George are the ones that will be producing the finished product.
Seems like I'm going to need HUGE number of ac in the months to come. My pool of 400 replacement Oscar IIs and Zekes were
expended after the furious battles over the last few weeks. So I can't afford to decrease production for quite some time.

Two more quiet turns: not much to report. I'm bombing enemy bases in China - no resistance. It's possible that the supply situation has become critical for the Chinese. It's great to have your back free...no bombing in Burma and China [:D]

Andy continues to send subs close to Truk! Got 2-300 experienced bombers on asw patrols and 6 enemy subs have been hit over the last few days. Today the USS Stingray and Tresher were reported sunk.

Lost some transports over Kavieng today - been bringing out some depleted units.
In a daring evacuation operation 1500 elite troops of the 1st Parachute Regiment was brought out of Samo by 6 destroyers. These small unnoticed operations is a very interesting aspect of the game.

There were some 250 transports at Truk and I've now moved 150 of them to Ulithi. The latter is my secondary fleet port
in the South Pacific (Port size 7 soon). Got all sorts of auxilliaries there. Most of my damaged ships are also enroute to Japan, Hong Kong or Shanghai.

The 'ready fleet' at Truk now includes:
9 fleet carriers
1 light carrier
4 escort carriers
10 battleships
2 heavy cruisers
5 light cruisers
some 30 destroyers

I suspect that Andy will ove against Maloelap in the Marshalls next. For a while I will not resist him, but
when an opportunity can be found I plan to release a huge air armade against his fleet to test out my new theories in
the air.

Hot spot Maloelap

There is no doubt: Andy is going to invade in a day or two! Should be bloody, 9 forts
and all units are 100% prepped for Maloelap. The defenses consists of an elite Army regiment,
a large SNLF unit + 2-3 base force units. In all: 17k troops with an assault value of 266.
Some 450 mines left.

Anything less than two full divisions worth of troops will most likely be insufficient.
I hope Andy underestimates.... [:'(]

Enemy invasion force 1 hex east of Maloelap: guess they're coming ashore tomorrow.
I don't expect Andy to underestimate String - but you can always hope [;)]

I'm sending the KB to Ulithi: don't want to have them in port within range of enemy heavy
bombers. Going to retrain their fighter groups and keep them in reserve until 44.

Ron, supply situation is ok. It burns a lot of supplies to keep the forward bases fed and I've
been building up supply depots in the Marianas. To manage this I have to load supplies from different
bases from the Home Islands to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

Currently there are supply depots several places:
60k Balikpapan
90 Kwajalein
70k Truk
50k Manila
50k Kendari
300k Marianas
60k Singapore
50k Batavia

India is self supplied, so is Java, Sumatra, Burma and China. Not a great surplus but adequate.

Turkey shoot near Maloelap!

Post by PzB74 »

Andy kept his ships close to Maloelap today!

Some 300 Jap fighters and bombers took of in an attempt to hurt the enemy carriers.
250 failed to return....4 bombers got through but failed to score any hits. I had hoped
for a big coordinated strike that would have had a better chance of prenetrating the enemy death CAP.

As far as I could see a powerful LRCAP together with a carrier CAP protected the Allied ships and only
1 TF was outside of this umbrella. Unfortunately just a small strike targeted the unprotected ships.

The Turkey shoot age has definetly started! Today I used a majority of semi or untrained
fighter pilots while the bombers were mostly experienced.

Pretty sure Andy will go ahead with his invasion now, but I have more strike ac ready for him.
There are several variables that have to fall in place at the same time if we are going to be able
to hurt the enemy!

1. Clouds ground parts of the enemy LRCAP
2. Weather is clear over our bases
3. A large and powerful strike is sent out instead of many smaller ones!

The odds ain't good but I can't do anything but try...If I can't hurt the enemy now he will only grow stronger by the hour.

1200 ac are now in place in China and 800 of these will be ready within 2 months. The remaining 400 carrier fighters
will be trained to 80 exp. As long as our factories can keep up we will continue this circle of destruction until a decision
result has been achieved on the battlefield.

Allies invade Maloelap!

Post by PzB74 »

Having problems updating the AAR again..sluggish and somehow I erase more text than
I edit. Result of another upgrade [&:] [:(]

Today the enemy invaded Maloelap! A messy affair..and I'm not sure Andy
brought enough firepower. A full enemy division will be shreded in the end
no matter what [8D]

How is this possible (putting BBs in the transport fleet)? I have seen that before (Allies only), but when i've tried to do with japanese counterparts did not worked?

Great defence, PzB! It's quite depressing to loose such a many ac's but you are doing great defence! Every day is another born of Empire of the Rising Sun!

(i'm pretty scared about my future in PBEM. You kicked out the Brits[:D], but even only American is impossible to stop. I hope that devs reading your AAR.)

It's probably an escort TF. That's the only way I've been able to do it.

Edit...

Just looked at the CR again. Looks like the CD guns engaged more than 1 TF in the hex. I didn't see any naval bombardment though so I wonder exactly what type TF the BBs are in.

Production Stats.

I've had to turn on the merchant yards again - accelerated production of cve's is expensive.

In a week we start producing the Jill torpedo bomber: max range 6 (torpedo bombing range 5)
Another 20 days and we receive the first Zeke FB unit with 48 ac.
The George will be ready in 6 weeks.

You may want to stop your Kate production. 791 Kates in the pool is an awful lot.

Why are you accelerating CVEs?

If you create a transport TF then change it to an escort tf, add BBs, then you can change it back to a transport TF. [8D]

I'm going to stop the Americans as well Pauk, they've not even reached my main defensive line [:D]

That's the way Cpt Sherwood...dunno why you can't simply add bb's to transportTF's?
Using a backdoor is a bit unfair for those who doesn't know it!

Production will soon auto change Kate production to Jill - doesn't happen if production
is stopped. Last time I forgot to restart 200 Zeros and they didn't update. But you're right
I got enough Kate's Mike [;)]
