Skorzeny didn’t want to have to report to Hitler that after a successful rescue Mussolini had died in an airplane crash on the slopes of the Gran Sasso.

Indeed, you are right, but for full points: which was the specific complicating factor that made Skorzeny fear a crash? :)

He had squeezed his 6 foot + bulk into the cargo compartment behind Mussolini [:D]

This significantly overloaded the plane.

Skorzeny cut a hole in the bottom of his glider to navagte to Gran Sasso.

They had to hold the wings so the plane could rev the engines up to top speed.

The pilot had to jump a ditch before going over the edge.

The History channel was interesting when they showed this.

Ok, let's stay on the Mussolini topic:

Q1. Where was Mussolini's dead body found and in what position?
Q2. Who was he with?

Upside down for the position and with his mistress for Q2. As for where... I'm guessing Bologna

He was hanged in April 1945 - upside down alongside his mistress (Clara?) Petacci in Milan - I cannot recall the name of the Plaza and am unsure of the mistress' spelling.

Correct.

Hung upside down in Piazza Loreto in Milan with his mistress Clara Petacci. They had been executed by shooting in a village north of Milan and then brought to the city to be put on display.

After being shot they were hung upside down on meat hooks.

The shootings of Mussolini, Clara Petacci (his mistress), and 15 members of their group (primarily ministers and officials of the Italian Social Republic) took place in the small village of Giulino di Mezzegra. His body was then taken to Milan where it was hung upside down at a Esso petrol station.

In 1961 a movie about a spy was produced in France in collaboration with West Germany, Italy and Japan. This movie was very popular in the Soviet Union as well. In the movie, the spy was played by Thomas Holtzmann. In 1964 Soviet premier Nikita Khrushchev saw the film and asked the KGB whether the story was true. When it was confirmed that it was indeed true, Khrushchev posthumously awarded the spy with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union on November 5, 1964. In addition his widow Hanako Ishii received a Soviet pension until her death in july of 2000.

What was the name of the spy?

Extra points for the code name of the spy, the name of the movie, the name of the Polish comic book based on his life, and how he was executed.

I know of two famous spies from WWII. The Japanese connection re the film must make the answer to this question, Richard Sorge, but I'm afraid I have no idea about the other three questions.

Edited for an inability to add up... three questions not two.

Richard Sorge is correct. [;)]

His GRU codename was "Ramsay".

The name of the movie was Qui êtes-vous, Monsieur Sorge? (Who Are You, Mr. Sorge?)

The name of the Polish comic book based on his life (published in 1971) was "Wywiadowca XX wieku" ("20th Century Spy").

He was hung at Sugamo Prison on November 7, 1944 at 10:20 am Tokyo time.

Warspite1

This is the other one I referred to above. Lucy was Rudolf Rossler (again apologies for spelling). He set up an anti-German spy ring based in Switzerland.

I assume you meant that one and not Lucille Ball [;)]

Nope, Rudolf Roessler cannot be Lucy.

The Lucy spy ring was an anti-German operation that was headquartered in Switzerland. It was run by Rudolf Roessler.

Very little is clear about the Lucy ring, Rudolf Roessler, or Lucy's sources or motives.

If brian brian wanted to know about the spy ring he would have posted "What was Lucy?" not "Who was Lucy?".

yes, I look forward to the day when historians figure out Roessler's source inside Germany

with WWII information, more things have been revealed so far by the Russians than the British or Americans...

This shouldn't be too hard, and may not be exclusive: What capital ship survived two nuclear attacks before being decomissioned?
