Here´s a screenshot of the industry situation. As you can see, not that bad. [:D]

With the strategic situation as it is now, there´s no way for the Allied to really cause me industrial problems anytime soon. They are far away from a strategic bomber offensive against Japan and within this year we will have stockpiled so much oil/resources that we won´t have any shortages in 46.

most of the Allied units have arrived at Chengtu and bigbaba has ordered a bombardment. Result are only ALLIED losses as nearly 2700 av don´t even have a dozen guns... we have level 9 forts and nearly 400 guns but with the stupid ground combat model we will see what will happen. Knowing the answer anyway: undersupplied Chinese hordes, armed with sticks will shock attack me out of my bunkers...

The result of 03/03/44´s Chinese shock attack at Chengtu came up at such a stupid result I forgot to save the cr due to being so upset about such a 100% failed ground combat model, it´s a shame it can be so bad as this pretty much makes everything completely laughable that comes along from those (this?) developer(s). The Chinese got an adjusted av of 2000+ while our av got halved. They had a laughable number of 11 guns, we had 370. Result was that we get our heads chopped while the Chinese laugh while they do their ancient style attacks with sticks and their 11 undersupplied mortars. This ground combat model STINKS and so does the one who came up with such a thing. Noone is asking for a perfect game but what we see here (once again) is just so off, it´s more of a fairy tale you tell your 3 year old grandson than anything else. A 4 year old would already tell you that you´re telling him BS. No, complete BS... [>:]

Pissed off by the "Gary Grigsby most stupid ground combat model ever", I thought what perfectly works for Chinese units that have most time NO supply and that have NO heavy weapons will also work for 99 exp, fully supplied Japanese units, but once again the "Gary Grigsby most stupid ground combat model ever" doesn´t work that way for the Japanese. While our troops behind level 9 forts get their adjusted avs halfed, undersupplied Chinese units without heavy weapons just get perfect avs, but even worse, they inflict 5000 casualties with their sticks... Mr. Grigsby, 100% fail... Nothing in WITP is as bad as the ground combat model. While you can "accept" it as long as both sides have reasonable numbers and all are supplied, those things that now happen in China are the prove how poor the choice of influencing factors are because something that would be near realistic outcomes would see the Chinese being killed in the tens of thousands when they do shock attacks without having supply and without having heavy weapons.

I´m quite experienced in WITP but I did not know that the ground model was that BS while bigbaba already knew that supply or heavy weapons aren´t important and therefore he just shock attacked me and the BS kicked me around the map. Unfortunately it doesn´t work the other way around, supply and heavy weapons must be a negative factor for this oh so well programmed ground combat model. Doesn´t it really hurt if you come up with a product that is partially so broken. I wouldn´t be satisfied with such a BS and I can´t believe it would be so much work to make out of supply troops completely useless (as this is what out of supply units are). No, in Gary Grigsby wonderland, out of supply units still fight with 25% of their av and with the other stupid multipliers they can even get adjusted avs that are mulitple times higher than their base avs. Very well done...

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

it´s all about assault value. Supply? Not needed? Heavy weapons? Not needed. All you need is assault value. Wonder how the Nazis could lose the real war. Oh wait, it was real and GG wasn´t in charge on the East front.

Result of this stupidity once again: my troops get shock attacked out of a fully supplied level 9 fort base (100% prepped of course) by Chinese units that would have no combat value (or a very small one) in reality. Heck, I must get away from reality and get myself back into GG wonderland. And once again, I shouldn´t complain. GG let me conquer nearly the whole map and sink two dozen Allied carriers for nearly no loss on the Japanese side.

we have a huge Army marching on Kweiyang with lots of "tanks" and heavy weapons. Guess the stick armed Chinese will kill off my troops in the thousands and my tanks in the hundred. Doing this with the magic weapon: "assault value". Russian soldier shouting over to German Tiger tank: "hey, we don´t have a heavy AT gun but we just killed you with our assault value" "BOOM". German Tiger crew abandons tank and shoot themselve in their head. BOOM

after recon has told me that nearly all aircraft but not all ground units were evacuated from Colombo I was sure that bigbaba would send more TFs to pick up the troops there so I´ve moved some high experienced bombers and fighters to Bangalore and set them on nav attack. Weather was bad yesterday (when the TF hasn´t arrived at Colombo) so my bombers stayed grounded. We take off today and to my surprise, 63 high experienced fighters weren´t able to deal with 3 Corsairs on Cap and after having one fighter damaged, the Corsairs attacked the bombers but thankfully only damaging one...

Then the TF is shot up... [:D]

we also launch a full strike with the remaining undamaged bombers and sink more of the small, medium and big AKs in this TF. Really a nice result for this day, guess we sink a dozen AKs for not even a single loss on my side (even though flak seemed to be quite strong). The Frances really is an improvement over the fragile Betty. Also in this strike, my escorts weren´t able to deal with two fighters on Cap... [8|]

I'm sure you too are watching the results of AE campaigns and taking a look at the ground combat model. I certainly haven't seen anything this ridiculous from it yet.

yes I am and I´m 100% sure that it is an improvement as in many other areas. Though there also haven´t been those "we have no supply and no heavy weapons and still kick a$$" - Armies that were rushing through the map, beating down level 9 forts at will without taking heavy losses, while on the other side, when being on the defense, killing off thousands of fully supplied and highly exp troops with loads of heavy weapons.

In WITP´s stupid ground combat model it´s just like if it would be an advantage if you´re out of supply (or undersupplied) and have no heavy weapons. Heck, those troops have been out of supply for so long that all their heavy weapons are gone and they still kick a$$. While they couldn´t do it early in the game when they had full supply and all their heavy weapons. Doesn´t that stink? Of course, I can be completely wrong and the existing multipliers of WITP´s ground combat model are just fine and you didn´t need supplies or heavy weapons in WWII for ground attacks against heavily fortified positions. Sticks and knifes must have worked just fine.

Don't get too totally excited. AE does use the same "model" as WITP - at least by my definition of the term. We did completely rewrite the loops for efficiency and this actually threw the casualties off, so we had to fix that. And the "fix" process involved extensive testing and adjusting by a team which including a very experienced SME who eventually - after many weeks, was able to report that we were now producing plausible results. So AE is different. But it is not a complete "green field" rewrite. But it does include a substantive rework of the existing model. Some don't like it. But so far, I find it better. But then, I was in the Artillery, during my time in the chow line (as was said Subject Matter Expert!!! [:D])

From what I´ve seen so far it seems to look better in AE than in WITP. At least it´s more to my taste, but it´s like I´ve said, I haven´t seen those 300.000 troops vs. 500.000 troops battles yet or those out of supply Armies with 10.000 assault value attacks in AE yet.

I can´t say I have ever been a "fan" of WITP´s ground combat model but in four years of playing it has never pissed me off as much as in tis campaign with the ground warfare in China and what out of supply and out of heavy weapon Chinese Armies can do due to the magic shock attack order. While this doesn´t work for the Japanese with supply and with heavy weapons. lol. And not to forget that 500.000 Japanese troops (12.000 av) with all available "tank" units and all but 5 combat eng units weren´t able to do anything against 3.000 Russian av (with base exp and half of the units have been forced to retreat more than just once) behind level 9 forts in a clear hex. Oh wait, my troops were mostly 90+ exp (with many at 99 already) but that didn´t help either. Taking 20.000+ casualties in one turn and the enemy taking 1.000 shreds your 12.000 av to 6.000 in three attacks. Then you can´t reduce the forts of course (because 1.000+ combat eng are disabled in two turns) and the Allied build level 8 to 9 forts in three turns anyway.

Oh yes, I´m 100% sure that AE has improved the ground combat model.

More of the same as the last months... we´re building up our defensive positions and my airforce is further increasing their (already high) experience. And many ground and air reinforcements are arriving. Nearly every couple of days we get new daitais, sentais or hikotais and big inf units. But else not much is happening... no idea where the rest of the US CV fleet is hiding at the moment and there´s no sign of any invasion attempt. And I wouldn´t recommend an invasion without proper preparation. This went wrong too often for the Allied already.

next turn my troops should enter Kweiyang hopefully. It takes us forever to march on the road into this hex it seems, my Army was marching at a speed of 7 miles a day... awfully slow. If you use the "follow unit order" your troops most often march at half of their usual speed, so if it isn´t needed, don´t do it...

When we will have arrived we will see what the Chinese can do against us. Guess they will kill us off with their sticks...

It's really sad to see this game evolve in this way, be it the Chinese stupid stuff or bigbaba's confusing strategy.[:(]

yeah, it´s sad indeed. It´s the only WITP PBEM I´ve got going and with the chance to get into the really late stages of the war I´m not keen to really drop it. If I would be convinced that AE is already in a state to start a long term PBEM then I would do that, but as it is now, for me AE isn´t patched up high enough to really get a long term PBEM going. That´s no complaint, it was the same with WITP which has reached a state in 1.5 that was already very good.

big strike on my mountain island up North, the hit rate was a pain to see... level 4 airfield and 142 bombers achieve 180 hits on the runway alone... the damned Allied long range bombers must all have a dangerous high experience... no wonder after 3 years of war and nothing that really could stop them so far. But more than a dozen were lost today and this strike isn´t really concerning for me anyway.
