Ponape (april 15th - 25th 1944)


I talked about invading Truk in previous update.

However this idea got cancelled since my intense recon flights showed now 31 units present on that atoll.

Not an good idea to hit and even worse leaving Ponape operational in the rear.

Thus the invasion of Ponape will begin next turn. There are some 130 000 allied troops on ships just outside of Ponape.

Only confirmed thing is that he has 18 units present there and the bombardment run I made with couple of battleships few days earlier showed heavy CD gun installments.

So, I do believe this will be bloody as ever but once we gain this island things are looking good.

I guess it is no news that allied carriers are supporting this operation. LBA threat is big since Dave has +300 fighters and +120 bombers at Truk.

There will US division landing at Maloelap in day or two. Hoping to wrap up things there as well. Once that is done we take out Wotje.

Other operations are being prepared simultaneously but no go signals are given before we see this Ponape thing through.

Burma (april 15th - 25th 1944)


Allied troops are now just 40 miles north of Pegu.

The recon flights indicate 36 enemy untis present in that base. I haven't got an clue how much that is in terms of av value yet.

British troops also captured Prome. Japanese had just an artillery unit there so this was not an fight at all.

This spearhead will continue to move towards Rangoon area immediately.

I have also substantial reserves ready at Diamond Harbour.

Japanese seem to have moved some fighters and bombers back into this region. I guess he is forced to do that.

Good luck with that Ponape battle. It's going to be bloody, but since he has the Solomons, Northern Oz, New Guinea, etc., I don't see any way around it if you want to threaten Japan before too long. Also, I'm sure he's got the Marianas well fortified.

Commander Cody: Thanks. The battle has now begun and so far we are making steady progress.

I think Dave is withdrawing troops from Solomons and most like deploying them near Marianas.

We will find that out a bit later but definately the Kusaie and Ponape are must have for the allied side.

These two bases open wide range of possibilities for later months.

Burma (april 26th - may 1st 1944)


Commonwealth troops are now just 80 miles north of Rangoon.

I do expect to seize the capital of Burma without an fight.

Allied recon shows nearly 40 units gathered at Pegu which suits me fine. This is an open terrain hex so it makes things a bit easier.

I have plenty of bombers still training and haven't unleashed them yet.

We have had some fighter to fighter battles near Pegu. The losses have been around 1:1 odds which I can live with easily.

The chinese units are now in their designated positions near Paoshan. So, I can start this offense when I have moved my units around in china.

Ponape (april 26th - may 1st 1944)


The invasion of Ponape has begun.

As expected japanese had nasty CD guns in place there but eventhough the losses were high I was expecting much worse.

We have now landed some +2000 av worth of infantry into the island and these troops are well supplied.

Japanese had an garrison around 900av in the beginning and this has now dropped down a bit.

Burma (may 2nd - 19th 1944)


The commonwealth troops have now seized the burmese capital Rangoon.

Dave had withdrawn most of his units from there but he did have 1 IJA division plus some supporting troops defending the capital.

However that was not enough and the battle was over in just 4 days.

Now the focus has shifted into Pegu just east of Rangoon.

Japanese had initial success when they routed an allied tank division which arrived a bit ahead of the rest.

Next turn however he launched an shock assault there which 11 000 japanese were either dead or wounded.

After the initial skirmishes the real battle begun...

Japanese aiforce became heavily involved here as well. The net result around 100 planes downed compared to 50 allied ones.

I'am still keeping fresh squadrons in reserve and haven't deployed the full force of my bombers yet.

Ponape (may 2nd - 19th 1944)


We are still fighting it out at Ponape.

Japanese are putting up stubborn resistance there.

In past few days I wondered how is he doing that. Well I think he has something like 500-600 transport aircraft flying in supplies and troops.

In order to deal with this I have put up an LRCAP over Ponape and hopefully it reduces the effectiviness of such operations.

Intelligence screen (may 23rd 1944)


Here is the summary of points so far. We are not playing for them but I guess they do show something.

The air to air losses have been mounting but for that is good now since I have quality pilots now and better aircraft.

There are a lot of bombers gathered in SEAC. I'am still keeping them at bay but will unleash them soon.

Army losses are heavily in favour to the japanese but hopefully things will change soon.

Overall Dave has played fantastic game so far.

Also I would like thank michaelm who sorted our little mess at Ponape. The turns are ongoing again normally.

However I wasn't able to do much in the weekend due to company's christmas party etc.

Interesting thing is that there is still every single CA in the game, ther will be some fierce night battles with the Japanese night experience
used right.

Well, if you take out that unfortunately game mechanics thing at Ponape. He definately still has the fleet to inflict major damage all around so we shall how that plays out.


After few weeks off from the forums it is now time to do an update on how things stand.

First I would like thank Matrix games for their support and customer service. I mean this game could easily have been all over in that unfortunate Ponape incident. Thankfully that did not happen and definetaly A grade support we got.

Secondly... I was amazed to see +100 000 hits on this thread. OMG, never thought that when we started this "episode".

Burma (june 20th 1944)


Allied infantry units have captured also Pegu now.

The battle there was swift and bloody. Both sides lost few thousand men either killed or wounded.

It took some 2 weeks to overrun the base itself. Japanese could have hold out further but Dave opted to do organized withdrawal towards Moulmein.

The recon already indicates 48 enemy at Moulmein which is behind nasty river crossing.

The main goal for now is to bring support troops into Rangoon area. There are plenty of infantry and assault units but we definately need aviation support from our rear lines.

When these troops are deployed into position than we shall a) move our aircraft forward and b) start the journey towards Bangkok.

The assault itself needs to have 2 spearheads. One is heading directly into Moulmein and one will bypass the base and try to reach the raillines north of Bangkok.

Definately hard to tell ETA's on how fast the above can accomplished but I'am to have the full assault ongoing aroud mid july 1944.

We are also fighting at Paoshan in order to open Burma road into China. This is an stalemate at the moment due to poor equipment of the chinese infantry units.

I think he is flying supplies into Paoshan via air. This base will be dealt with in due course though.
At the moment japanese have brought in new aircraft into region.

I hope these planes stay here since what to have attrition battles here soon.

South & Central Pacific (june 20th 1944)


The fighting at Ponape has now seized and allied troops have captured the base there.

It took a lot of doing though and many of my units are in need of rest and replenishment.

The main thing here now is to consolidate the front here and bring in more supplies, fuel and support ground units.

Japanese still have few bases in their hands at Marshall Islands and occupy ie. Tarawa.

These bases will also need to dealt with since don't want these in my rear routes as scout bases.

Truk still has some 50 enemy units occupying it so that base will either have massive invasion coming up or I will simply bypass the whole atoll.

Currently we are conducting landings at Lunga and Tulagi. These bases will be overrun in next few days. I have my carriers in the solomon region in order to deal with any IJN threat that might arise.

After these two bases are done we will move into northern Solomons and into Rabaul. I hope to have these operations done july or august 1944.

When we control Rabaul area we have basically combined the CenPac and Aussie/NZ/South Pacific troops and frontlines. That is an key objective here.

Bulk of japanese troops seem to have been withdrawn from Solomons and Rabaul area.

Pacific (june 20th 1944)


China is basically now fair game again since I have assaulted Paoshan.

However I haven't noticed any troop movement there from IJA. The chinese units are now deployed into defensive positions so any advance towards Chungking will be an costly one.

In Aleutians I will start opertions soon to liberate Dutch Harbour and Umnak Island. The supply convoys and some carrier support are already in way.

Once these ships arrive we start our advance here and hopefully knock out those japanese easily.

In Australia I'am slowly moving towards norther part of the country and hope to have few cities liberated soon as well.

The submarine campaign is not going as well as expected due japanese laser guided ASW.

Dave is using aggressive TF's and I think hundreds of bombers in these ASW operations. Thus allied losses are mounting up.

A two weeks earlier we did have quite an substantial air to air battles.

This was triggered by the supply and reinforcements convoys I did send into Rangoon.

I did lose CVE and few other surface combat ships. Also Dave nailed some xAK's but paid an price for all of this.

If the combat reports are to believed japanese did lose around 120-200 aircraft in this offensive operation.

The main thing though is that the supplies and troops did unload and now I'am set to go towards Bangkok and Malaya.

In the ground we did cross river at Moulmein. As expected this this was costly maneuver and we did lose around 20 000 men either dead or wounded.

Last turn we did launch our first assault againts the base. These troops are supported by very large and yet somewhat ineffective bomber squadrons. Including B29's.
