Something to keep in mind when I take the Marianas.

Most of the forces at Rajshashi are heading to Dacca. I left some behind to guard and fortify, plus the mentioned Humber unit is heading north.

I've flipped another P-47D2 unit to Mustangs. Once my fighters have recovered a bit, I'll start a sweep campaign against Calcutta. Two fighters squadrons are LRCAPping my southeast guys also, in case he tries something.

I'm thinking I can kick off the Marianas (and others) invasion within a month, tops. APAs have been showing up and routing to Pearl. More base forces at Vava'u are loading and enroute to Christmas Is.

A few hexes south of Ranchi, my troops have entered two (hopefully) lightly held hexes. In both cases, I'm bombarding to measure what's there. My LRP brigades are south and east of Ranchi, and the big mob from the west is due south of there. Just the three armored units have reached right now, so either way, no attack will happen until the infantry catches up.

I'm beating the Intel Monkey up a bit to get background on what's at my future objectives.

Guam: The 110th division, along with a smattering of base and flak units. The last reading of the 110th is 8/6 of this year.

Saipan: 50th Ind.Mixed Brigade and the 39th Division, with the 2nd Area Army overseeing it. Saipan Naval Fortress is also there. The 11th Tank Rgt may also be there. Apart from the usual base and flak units, two air HQs may also be present.

Tinian: A bit lighter with the 109th Division, 67th Field AA Battaion, the 170th JAAF AF Bn, and maybe the Det. 3rd Special Base Force

Truk: Yes, this is my "Southern Front" to cover the operation. Initial intel seems to show it's fairly lightly held, indentifying these units: 2nd Amphibious Brigade, 2nd Provisional Base Force, 34th Field Const Co, 4th Fleet, Southeast Area Fleet, plus some other base forces. I'm bringing lots of overkill to take this island. If I can grab it cleanly, everything from Rabaul on southwards will start sweating it.

I know the Monkey's probably not perfect, so I'm looking at 3-4 divisions plus lots of armor and artillery to hit each island. An amphib force HQ will supervise Truk and Saipan. I'm looking at lots of ships at each to dump as much as possible on shore the first turn. Battleships will accompany each landing force, along with lots of the rocket blaster ships. ASW and minesweepers, as usual accompany each site, and a cruiser heavy anti-surface force will go one each to Truk and the Marianas. I'll probably keep the fleet carriers closer to Truk to cover. I'm up to 41 CVEs now, so 10 to 11 of them, plus CVL Unicorn will be in separate air TFs with each invasion. Unicorn's too slow to roam with the fleet ships, and carrying one Corsair squadron, is too weak for that anyway. Oiler replenishment groups will accompany each force, due to the range involved.

I'll be trying to move bunches of base forces closely behind the invaders to get everything up and running quickly. I want lots of B-25 type coverage to stop any cargo transport anywhere near these islands. I've moved a recon PB4Y unit to Roi-Namur from Pearl and over the next few weeks, will begin scouting all these bases.

Keep in mind that Truk sits in 3x terrain and is bristling with CD guns. It's hard to imagine a circumstance where it would fall cleanly except after weeks of heavy bombardment.

The CD unit itself has no AV, so unless he garrisons strongly paratroops can take the base. I like Ponape and the little dot to the west of Truk to use for a bombing campaign to destroy supply and a para drop on D-Day.

I've got 7 divisions and 4 armored battalions tasked to Truk, so such petty things like terrain and fortifications should be rendered moot.

The other islands will get their fair share, too.

These troops are now heading to Jessore, where it appears about 2,000 troops reside. One less airbase for him if I can take it.

At Ranchi, I have troops advancing on it from two opposite-ish directions. Half from the SE and the other half from the N. They total about 1800 AV. Every bomber in the area is now tasked to hit the troops there. That won't be easy, due to the crap terrain they're sitting in.

At Pearl, I'm starting to deal out and pre-position the assault transports to the neighboring islands to haul the troops over. About 10 rocket blaster ships will be in each group with a few extras left over. I'll send the real combat ships when the day comes. I should have 10 CVEs with each invasion also. I started with the Saipan group. I'll take my time doing this.

I was scratching my head, wondering where his mob went. This turn, I see about 30,000 of his troops, plus vehicles and guns at Asansol. I must not have seen him slip through the SE hex. I saw nothing the last few days there. I have some recon on "commander's choice", and usually they find those roving units pretty good. Regardless, I have a new level 8 base if I can get the supply to flow in. I have excess airplane support at Benares, which I can spare. In the meantime, I've moved a bunch of bombers from Bhopal to Benares, flipping them to 20th AF to up the stacking ability. Bombers will start hitting troops at Asansol hard, which its being in open ground should help. Lots of escorts will be present for the nearer squadrons. If he's trying to catch my forces headed towards Dacca, he'll be plenty late in that effort.

B-29s will smack Lunga's airfield this turn.

Thinking on it a bit, I'm hoping his big group of troops is heading to Calcutta. A last stand there would suit me well. It will be a long attritional grind to get past his air forces there, however.

I'm still getting intel of pieces of the 53rd Ind. Mixed Brigade getting sent to Pagan. I wish I could get something on KB.

Sweeps went ahead in India, but they were all fed piecemeal, instead of all at once. Not very satisfying to watch. Overall, I probably got 3 or 4 to one on them.

I forgot to stand down the bombers at Benares, but they still did some damage.

Most of my troops at Ranchi are moving southwest and will probably catch that one IJA unit which retreated from there before. Knock them down some more.

Apart from that, I'm dealing out assault transports to the islands around Pearl for the invasion. I don't think I quite have enough for everybody, but lots more AP(A)s are in transit. A bunch of these are also busy moving a base force to Kwajalein, so I'll have them, also. Enough on that mission alone to handle a division. I'll fill in some gaps with a few xAPs per invasion force.

In the dry-docks at Pearl, any battleships and carriers being worked on should be finished within a week. I think Enterprise II is the only carrier in there, along with there BBs. After that, it just all about getting the prep up high enough before I kick things off.

Have you thought about ferrying these units to more forward bases before loading them into APAs? There are a few bases in the CentPac that can hold a large number of troops that seem like better staging bases than Pearl Harbor. My experience so far has led to me to believe that keeping LCUs as forward as possible for invasions is the way to go, even if it means overloading atolls with units. Amphibious transports are limited as you know so reducing the distances they need to haul units could aid in mitigating those shortages.

EDIT:
You may also consider multiple invasion waves for the Marianas but limiting the first wave only to specialized landing craft (LCIs, APAs, etc). I suspect the Japanese defensive plans in the Marianas will involve wearing down your carrier born aircraft with LBA before sending in the combined might of the IJN. Being able to land your units within a single day and quickly pulling back until you have secured a base could greatly reduce your exposure to LBA. I fear that using xAPs and having to wait multiple days to unload their troops would give the Japanese time to organize a massive attack on your fleet when they are most vulnerable.

Yeah, thinking on it, I probably could have staged everyone out of the Gilberts and not be much worse off than the islands around Pearl. I may be kicking this off inside of three weeks at the rate I'm getting things organized. I should have plenty of air with 200 fighters per convoy from the CVEs alone. My fleet ships may give Truk a good pounding if KB doesn't show up. My photo recon Liberators can reach all these targets, so I'll be giving them a good look over the next few weeks.

The Marinas should be big enough to run my next landings from. I may grab surrounding bases like Ulithi once I'm settled. The guys he's shipping to Pagan will simply starve once they're there.

I'm not sure if he's got a lot of aircraft in these areas. My recon of Truk indicates not much more than 50 fighters there right now.

KS has very few troops to the east of Calcutta and I could probably roll up the entire coastline at this point. I have a *lot* of troops out that ways right now. At this point, just about everything he has of significance is at Calcutta.

I need to get more supplies at Dacca and Ranchi. That's been a bit thin as of late, due to Cape Town running out before. One 100k convoy is about two days from Karachi. After that, I'm loading another, which will take at least three weeks to get there. Hopefully another replenishment convoy will show up soon. I can probably run another 40k from Abadan when my transports get back from their prior run. If I can get these two bases up and running I can swamp Calcutta and bomb them back to the stone age. I've routed about 6 B-29 squadrons to Hyderabad with more as they heal up.

India has turned around in a hurry. A week ago, I thought the whole country would be one big stalemate. His getting cold feet at Ranchi pretty much broke it open for me.

I've got nearly all my amphib ships distributed to the four bases, awaiting the day. I'm also giving each Amphib TF two old battleships to go with the 10 each rocket ships. All the fast BBs will sail with the carriers. Two Iowas are present for this.

At this point, I'd say at least 90% of his troops in India are at Jessore, Howrah and Calcutta.

Sweeps over Calcutta netted about 4-1 on him. I'll keep that up and start bombing Calcutta's and Howrah's airfields. The B-29s never flew the previous night. Supply's a bit thin at Hyderabad, so I may consider moving them.

That's surprising. I would think Calcutta would be one of those bases the Japanese would defend in strength even if surrounded. Any chance Japan evacuated Calcutta with transports?

One of my large groups of troops reached Asansol today. No Japanese there, so it will be mine before I move them south. There's some heavy industry there, which will help. His forces snuck out right before I reached, as my bombers were hitting them pretty good.

Looks to me like you got enough airfield hits to shut it down. Question is how many engineers he has in Calcutta to fix it.
Still, after losing over 100 aircraft he may have a much weaker CAP next turn. Bite the bullet and keep pounding. Very satisfying to see all those fighters destroyed on the ground.

Thanks, BB. That's how I'm feeling right now. Calcutta's damage is at 57% right now. I'm getting there.

Along those lines, I'm keeping the pressure up, even though my guys are wearing down. All his fighters keep hitting the heavies. The upside is that a following raid of two dozen B-25 sweeps into Calcutta and does descent damage on their own unopposed.

My Bombardment mission to Diamond Harbor has some side benefits also. All his bombers are set on hitting my ships, thereby leaving my troops alone. Howe ate a torp and I'm sending her back. She was slow anyway. I'm hoping they'll hit next turn. All his army units are trying to get back to Calcutta. A bunch of 24s from Delhi are pounding big groups of them relentlessly.

My B-29s are hitting in scattered groups, which is upsetting. The 24 seem to stay in large mobs. Lots of my sweeps are arriving completely after the fact, also, which tries my patience.

I'm not sure how the ground unit count will stack up once I finally besiege Calcutta. I'm hoping I have the edge, but this may become a long drawn out affair to end it. Bombers will be busy.

Japanese air in India is essentially finished. I bombed Howrah and Calcutta unopposed today. All that seems to be there are 14 fighters at Howrah. It looks like KS simply withdrew everyone else, so they should be out of the war for a few months. My fighters are in rest and recovery mode. B-29s are also stood down, as I've really worn them out. Bombers at Delhi will still hit Howrah's airfield. The rest of the 24s will concentrate on the two groups of troops retreating to Calcutta, currently one and two hexes away to the north. It's reaching the end in India. Honestly, I thought not too long ago this would be at least a year away.

A convoy from England is unloading at Cape Town, so I'll be able to get another convoy to Karachi next turn, in addition to the one that just left. I think supply will be a big issue until Calcutta's secured.

Another CVE shows up at Portland. (Munda) 41 are at Pearl. Any over 40, I'll forward to Christmas Is to escort all the base troops coming to the Marianas and/or Truk.

Niue, Vava'u and Ta'u are all completely evacuated to Christmas Island. There was lots of airplane base support between these bases, so they should fill their future jobs nicely.

Another 6 subs sortied from Colombo. I'm starting to send the longer ranged USN subs to the DEI, while keeping the RN ones blockading Rangoon and Calcutta. He's been running his convoys along the coastline as of late. I used to avoid shallow waters like the plague, but with the excess of subs I have, I'm now covering everything. Another sub left Roi-Namur. That base is probably supporting 50 subs at this point. More are on the way from Pearl. I intend to have plenty around the Marianas and Truk for pilot rescue purposes.
