Well the casualties have started Randolph took a glancing blow from a Kamikaze and San Jacinto a more serious one allbeit not enough to put her out of action - I am being carefull to avoid Bonin as it looks like where PZB is gathering his fleet and I dont want to lose my entire fleet USN pilot pool trying to take it.

seeing those numbers I can just say once again that training in China AND producing 500 fighters of all different types / month is a thing a Japanese just shouldn´t do. I´m also a fan of training in China and PDU but I never increase production to such numbers.... [8|]

As you said, Japan losing three times the number of Zekes compared to the number of Hellcats produced in the game is ridicoulos. With PDU on it should be enough to streamline the Jap production to the more important (and better) types but stay about at the numbers you are given by the game. Don´t know if the overall numbers of planes produced in real life is anywhere near the number you are given by the game if you don´t increase your output.

hmm, those are the worst experienced US naval fighter pilots I´ve seen up to now.... [8|] Are those 35 exp. pilots in Corsairs able to stand their own?

Well i will say that ageain... probably the testers didn't bother to test how the game works running the full campaign just runed the scn. of 43 and 44 and so on... and they let out something like this, and people complaining that japan is weak and such are probably brain dead... im in 6/44 as japan i dont have experience in running its industry and such and im able to stockpile large nr of engines and airframes i thing i got over 4K nakajima and around 1k of Tojo's Tony's and Jacks in the pool as well as few hundred Gorge's and Jack's i didn't conquer anything more then japan did in reality and im able to produce such nr of planes not to mention ships and other stuff i never experienced any shortages and such!!!! so i think some one should work and remodel the game a bit in the next path

Well today shows the quandry I am in.

If I interdict the Bonins I take losses in my fighters that I cannot afford !!!

My TF's are 9 days away en route to Iwo I have no choice my carriers need to re arm

The Invasion TF is NNE of Marcus my refueled battle line will move to escort them in as will 2 fleet carrier TF's and 1 replenishment TF

My other 4 carrier TF's will withdraw to Marcus to refuel from the AE's and AO's that I have based there the Essex class all have c 600 sorties left so I am not in danger of losing ordnance

I lost 60+ Hellcats today

I have about 80 pilots between the two replensihment groups at Marcus on CVR's so today's losses can just about be managed but thats it I need to go in hard to close the AF but only when my troops are ready to land

The allies need to hope that PZB cannot reinforce Iwo quickly.

I sent some DD's into Bonin and Iwo to check it out but it went well and my DD's retreated after the initial attack.

I have a Tanker convoy en route to Marcus to supplament the 15 AO's and 5 AE's currently there.

This is a one shot deal if I lose off of Iwo I have no where left to go my Carriers will take heavy casualties that are irreplaceable so there is no second chance this is it the culmination of the war !!!!

I feel your pain (with the USN pilots as you know).
 
My take on your situation, forces available etc is go for it. You will take losses but time is against you. You have sufficient force to dominate the seas. You will take losses but IF you can secure Iwo you have a good tactical and strategic position.
 
I agree with your screenshots above as well. Crazy the Japanese can outproduce the USA[8|]

Oh I am going for it its the 9 days in between that worries me !!!
 
I wanted to keep two or three TF's operating around the Bonins while my TF's approached to stop him reinforcing (my intel says only 40,000 men on Iwo even with lvl 9 forts thats eminently beatable but he CAN reinforce remember I am only attacking with 1 x 3 Division Corps plus armour about 60,000 men if he puts another Division or two on there it will be impossible - I must secure the AF quickly to allow Marine Corsairs to operate off the island.
 
As at the Marianas I cannot keep the island isolated while my transports approach because I am too sensitive to losses.
