even a super escort doesn´t prevent a sub, that has been spotted for weeks in the base hex, from an attack. Silversides misses luckily and is hit by a real hit (if not FOW).

then we see our MSWs endlessly sweeping mines... until... PG Choan Maru#2 hits a mine... hits another mine... no mines left... [8|] the PG is dead... once again the sub laid mines are 1.000% or perhaps 100.000% as effective as mines laid by mine layers... for what reason ever - only the devs know...

for what reason ever, the British airforce in India still takes on the fight and has been really bleeded the last turns. Hundreds of British aircraft destroyed in the air and on the ground. Hopefully a lot of British pilots died, the British replacement rate is only 30 a month so it´s definetely possible to empty the pool - IF the British decide to fight on!

Image

the Allied losses over the last couple of turns were really severe... the replacement rate of the Hurricane is 75/month so the British won´t run out of Hurricanes, it´s all about his pilot replacement pool. A pilot in the mid 30s isn´t a match for our fighter pilots... but I think Swift will retreat his aircraft before his pool would be anywhere near depleted...

our first attack at Changsha and we are surprised to see that the Chinese only built level 6 forts (amazing, as Hengchow further to the West already had level 8). Our engineers took down a fort level and we easily achieve a 1:1 in adjusted av. The losses spread over our leading units are severe though, they have to be rotated out against troops that aren´t prepared more than 50%. Most troops in this attack were already 100% prepared.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ground combat at Wuchow

Japanese Bombardment attack

Attacking force 2132 troops, 84 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 1684

Attacking force 432 troops, 2 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 21

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 0

Japanese max assault: 20 - adjusted assault: 11

Allied max defense: 0 - adjusted defense: 1

Japanese assault odds: 11 to 1 (fort level 0)

Japanese forces CAPTURE Merauke base !!!

parts of the 2nd Parachute regiment took Merauke on the South West tip of New Guinea. Tomorrow we will drop on Thursday Island, then Port Moresby is completely isolated. But Swift hasn´t tried to reinforce or resupply PM anyway so it doesn´t look like he would want to fight for it.

The Chinese av dropped below 2000 already. Not bad considering it started somewhere around 3000 when the siege began! [X(] I have no idea why the artillery bombardment is SO effective. There seem to be no HQs in the lead and the first FOUR inf units are all around ZERO assault value now only from my bombardments. This while being behind level 6 forts. I have never seen this before.

ouch, pretty heavy flak fire over Darwin! The number of Allied aircraft in Northern Australia seems to grow steadily and we´re a bit concerned about that, so we will start a little air offensive. After my BB bombardments I thought flak fire wouldn´t be as intense as it was but in the end only 5 bombers are lost today (all to flak). So none lost to ops. Wouldn´t I have lost them to flak, then they would have been lost to ops anyway... [:D] More than 40 Allied aircraft were lost today...

A div has entered the cross road hex 2 hexes North of Wuchow. Wuchow isn´t surrounded but hasn´t a supply path to the North. It really seems, that Swift is only watching me moving around, showing no reaction or if he shows a reaction he IMO absolutely does the wrong moves. At the moment it looks like it was never as easy for me to take ground in China than it is in this game.

those attacks must be to raise Allied morale a bit. I can´t believe he will be really going to mount an invasion here. Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

I just don´t know what Swift is doing in China. It´s not like I´m rushing through the country, I´m not doing shock attacks with the order to pursue the enemy. Those Chinese units had two weeks time to move out of the hex. They just had to move on the road to Kweiyang but Swift lets them sit there, waiting until all my units have entered the hex to kick them out... [&:] China is completely lost for him. good that there are so many Chinese! [8D] Changsha fell easier than I thought. The 100.000 Chinese troops were worth some 700 points, we lost around 25 points all in all in the attack on Changsha. We have now nearly 5000 assault points that could further advance as our troops are all combat ready and we have yet to take a beating in China. Supply situation for the Chinese must be absolutely hopeless by now. We have to at least take one Chinese base with a 300 ressource center, then we´re still around 300-400 ressources short to feed all of our HI (I haven´t expanded it)! This is the result of the British being able to destroy all their ressource centers. [8|] So in fact the British are responsible for our major attack on China. Swift hasn´t made it really hard for our troops so we will reduce China to a not anymore dangerous side show...

Nik has reduced the bases in China that produce ressources to only a couple. Kunming far West, Chungking and Chengtu and Lanchow in the North, so if you want to take resource centers you have to take all of China. It was a good idea of Nik to swap the ressource centers with auto supply but now the wished effect is exactly the opposite as I have to advance further than I initially wanted to. At the moment we have shut down 250 merchant shipyard to see our HI pool increasing slightly every day and in return the ressources are going down.

Wuchow will be the next target! At the same time my troops are already advancing towards Kweiyang and then further West. Afterwards we will take out Nanning in the South - there are still some 40.000 troops (again, not understandable IMO). Our troops from the Changsha assault will be brought to the places with "heavy" resistance.

the US bombardment TFs are back again, another one was spotted today... wonder if he will really get serious in this region. I´m not really interested in a fight up there and will let him do whatever he wants. We will start to fight 6 hexes West at the earliest. 4E bombers could reacht the HI from Paramushiro Jima though. Max airfield would be a level 4. Still, I won´t put a div at this damned place in the far North... better to place a lot of flak guns in the HI that would be in range of 4Es from Paramushiro Jima...

Sub attack near Paramushiro Jima at 82,34

Japanese Ships
AK Brisbane Maru

we tried to send in reinforcements as those never ending bombardments created a "strange" feeling in my stomach. Herring misses, 2 TFs heading West are already spotted again a couple of hexes East of Paramushiro Jima, so this TF moves out again without having unloaded a single squad. It´s a pity we haven´t built the airfield to at least level 1 as we can´t fly in troops now with our transports and I don´t want to use my patrols...

we have now more artillery than we had at Changsha but don´t achieve the same huge casualties every turn... 1000+ casualties like at Changsha would be great though... [:D]

Allied Ships
BB Tennessee, Torpedo hits 1, on fire [:D][:D][:D]

Aircraft Attacking:
1 x B5N Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet

I bet this is already the point where Swift regrets his bombardments of Paramushiro Jima... Those were the 5 Kates of Hosho... I was shocked to see only this small airgroup attacking... until...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
we saw the full strike of our two other CVEs... this must be definetely the point where Swift regretted his attacks... [:)]

Day Air attack on TF at 85,35

Japanese aircraft
B5N Kate x 54

Japanese aircraft losses
B5N Kate: 2 destroyed, 16 damaged

Allied Ships
BB Idaho, Torpedo hits 6, on fire, heavy damage
CL Honolulu, Torpedo hits 1
DD Hull, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Aircraft Attacking:
1 x B5N Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet

needless to say that Idaho was sunk after taking 7 torp hits... I was amazed how intense the flak fire of this TF was but in the end we lose only 4 Kates, though most are damaged now... Honolulu took another dud...

this was the morning phase! Wonderful weather by the way! [:)] Will all our bombers try to attack the already sunken BB in the afternoon and then fail to find the target instead of going after the rest of the enemy TF?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NO... [:)]

DD Cushing
CL Helena, Torpedo hits 1, on fire

Aircraft Attacking:
4 x B5N Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet

Also the modern CL Honolulu is sunk after 6 torps struck her... To top it off, the modern cruiser Helena also takes a fish! BANSAI!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on TF at 85,35

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 3
B5N Kate x 21

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
BB Idaho, on fire, heavy damage

Aircraft Attacking:
1 x B5N Kate launching torpedoes at 200 feet

the rest of the bombers that were still operational tried to attack the Idaho that was already sunk at this point!

A great day! BB Idaho, CL Honolulu sunk, CL Helena damaged and a DD in danger of sinking, all for the loss of 4 Kates. A B-17 strike tried to engage our CVEs in the afternoon but failed to locate them at 10 hexes range. So if there aren´t the US CVs popping up now, it was a complete success for the IJA. Our CVEs are retiring full speed to the West. The enemy TFs were also in range of 54 Nells that I´ve brought in a couple of turns ago but the Nells refused to attack the high value ships...

as I have said before, I was (and am) not really interested in fighting up there and in the beginning I really thought we would see one or two bombardments and then the slow US BBs would disappear again. But they came back again and again, so I slowly moved my CVEs from Truk up to the North (on MISSION speed), even refulling them at Saipan. Then they joined Hosho that was in port of Hiroshima. In the meantime also the Nells came in, just to be sure to at least do a little damage to a possible invasion TF. All in all I can´t be really proud of outcome as I haven´t had a cunning plan that worked, IMO it was "not smart" to do those endless bombardments just a couple of hexes away from Japan. What if I had a couple of fleet carriers at Tokyo for repairs or upgrades? Then I would have sunk more than "just" a BB and a CL. I would even pursue them now...

but hey, it was nevertheless nice to watch the replay! [8D]

Swift sent the turn back without saying a word... [;)]
