One reason that he did not continue to bomb your LCUs with his dive bombers could be that he waited for KB to come, hoping that the exchange between the two carrier forces would be at least equal (which is already an Allied-favorable rate) if not to his advantage.

But it's bad news anyway.[:(]

no, he knew that KB was down around the Fidjis and he expected it to take 5 days for KB to show up (in fact it would have taken 10 days for KB to show up combat ready). So for the expected time the atoll assault takes, it would have been no problem at all to fly ground attacks or set his bombers at least to nav attack/port or airfield attack.

Like I´ve mentioned earlier, I´m not willing to take on the Allied carriers on a nearly 1:1 basis as this is Nikmod and KB would not be existing anymore if the Allied would launch a coordinated strike. Sooner or later I will be forced to take on the Allied carriers with my carriers, but if it is possible I will try to only do that if the Allied carriers are under attack from LBA also. Preferrable already two or three days under LBA attacks when KB will go in.

Yeah, it´s bad news. Not that it´s so bad to lose Midway, but the way it was lost. It looked like the assaults my forces are doing against 0 assault value base forces... [:(]

maybe there is something wrong with the code of the NIK-MOD, chris?

the battle was very one-sided imho. i mean, we all know what loses the allied had to take tarawa and that was late 1943! now they capture midway after a very short fight with minimal loses.

Nikmod hasn´t any changes in ground combat. I´m pretty sure the most important factor were the nukes, so there was no resistance during the landings. When you look at the casulties during the landings, there were mostly only a couple of hundred, whereas the casualties can go up to thousands pretty fast if you see a lot of counterfire.

That I only had level 2 forts at this early stage of the war didn´t help either. I´m confident though that the Allied will take far more losses with the conquest of other atolls, at least at those I want to defend.

Unless forts get high...Massive bombardments can really mess up island defenses...We can argue over how realistic it is...But in game terms atolls (unless supply and fort levels are high) can get nuked rather easily and
fall quickly.....

Yes, the Allies were very lucky, better not take unnecessary risks with KB in these circumstances.  However I hope you have better defences at Marcus Island...

Also, if he does not use that many transport ships, he is more vulnerable to mine hits..
If you have a division spread out over 20 ships, the loss of a single ship to a mine is not that big
a deal..But if he has a division over only 6 ships and he loses a ship...That is a big chunk dead before it hits the ground.

defenses at Marcus? [:D] LOL! Marcus now has a IJN base force with 8 assault points. Until yesterday it had no unit at all! Wake is top on my priority list and I´ve landed two more base forces and a dedicated CD unit. Though assault value on Wake is only 120 at the moment, forts level 1, af 3. If Miller wants he could make a quick grab but I doubt he will - unfortunately. If he would, I would counterland 6 divs 2 weeks later.

It´s February 42, means I´m not yet prepared to fend off an Allied advance! I´m the one who´s advancing! [;)]

Serioulsy, Miller could advance all the way to the Philipines and take out a couple of bases with only very few troops on them. I´ve lost more troops on Midway than are based in total on all other bases West from Midway to the Philipines. But one thing is for sure, he can´t hold them. So even if it would look like a great Allied offensive, in the end he would lose a couple of divisions and that´s all. Would be worse than starting his offensive in early 43 like usual.

that was another problem, there weren´t any mines at Midway, I´ve just started my mining operations. I took the atoll a couple of weeks ago, hard to have it a fortress four weeks later.

Defeated Allied Units Retreating!

more Chinese units entered Lashio, they were driven out immediately, retreating towards Myitkina. There are some 10 Chinese units in Burma. The Chinese units are out of supply but I guess there will be enough supply at Myitkina... Miller will surely regret that move when my China Command divisions will arrive in Burma also. As China is already a total victory for us (some additinal 250.000 Chinese troops are cut off and 100.000 already surrendered) so I have ordered already 4 China divisions to march towards Rangoon.

damn, clicked the wrong button. I wanted to order one div to do a bombardment to see what the Allied moved in from Myitkina. Obviously I clicked on deliberate attack instead. Luckily, the losses aren´t that severe. Miller also has a UK!!!! division here! He´s not just trying to defend Myitkina, no, he even seems to go on the offense! [:D] In a couple of months, this is also something he will regret I guess, moving divs and bgds from India to Burma...

unbelievable, Miller still is attacking even though nothing so far could achieve something against my high exp (80+) Oscar sentais. We achieve a 33:0!!!! in A2A kills today! That´s pretty much off IMO... it´s not encouraging though if you set 144 fighters on 90% Cap and you constantly not even see half of them airborne when the Allied will constantly get 100% into the air in a couple of months...

so much about how hard it was to kill off my troops that lost the base... couple of days and all are lost... [:(] Now the expected bad thing. Out of the 10 units there, I was able to evac a fragment of all of them. BUT, 4 disappeared completely, 2 turned into ghost units [:@], 1 stayed as fragment and 3 turned into the new parent unit. To make it worse, also the big base force (the most important unit) is lost... [:@]

this was two times surprising! First off, the sub of course hit one of my ASW ships but the MK10 torps failed to detonate... even more surprising the sub was hit twice and 7 near misses. Would surprise me a third time if it would sink...

that´s not surprising anymore, a sub sitting in one of my bases, just waiting. If you´re not 100% dumb you can easily figure out when a TF will arrive somewhere... AK is dead, too far away from a bigger port...

Miller still has his Chinese bombers ordered to attack my positions at Lashio. Those IL-4c are his BEST long range bombers that he has at the moment so I wouldn´t waste them with such strikes. They carry 10x250 kg AP!!! bombs so they could be lethal anti ship weapons if employed properly. I won´t tell him... [;)]

Am unsure how the Chinese situation at Henghow looks like at the moment. The number of Chinese troops defending here went down nearly 1000 troops from last turn but the assault value is still growing... Doesn´t matter, those troops are lost as I can´t see a chance to see this base liberated again as the moves of Miller in China are semi optimal at the moment. Moving those 10 Chinese units to Burma doesn´t help him either I guess.

An understrenght Dutch bgd was ordered to attack three of our TK rgts. This will make my deliberate attack tomorrow much more easy I guess and I expect the base to fall tomorrow and the Dutch defenders to surrender...

These are my normal op losses for a normal day with bombing activity at very short range... My 75-85 exp pilots crash all the time just from taking off...

heh, in my UV games as the japanese (juli 1943 now) my pilots flow half the mission number of the allied and have 2x higher Op lose rate. it seems to be the same in WITP and even higher in AE.

Moved in my troops yesterday, this should prevent Chinese units moving down South to free the two sieged bases of Wuchow and Hengchow where we have trapped hundred thousands of Chinese troops. Seems like a bad habit of Miller to order deliberate attacks immediately when my troops enter one of his hexes. He would be better off ordering a bombardment first to see what he faces. It´s a wooden hex, so with near parity in assault points, the enemy attack is shredded!

ML Kamome

Allied Ships
SS S-23

moved in a big TF of ML to mine Wake, unfortunately there is a sub sitting and so it´s obvious for Miller that there are a lot of mines at Wake now. I thought Midway would be more or less a fortress when the Allied invasion began, I will put so much effort into building up Wake that it REALLY will be a fortress if Miller decides to attack here. For me, there are only two obvious targets for Miller in the Pacific, one is Wake and the other one is Canton Island in the South Pacific. I will put more efforts into defending Wake of course...
