The Japanese went left hand down and headed straight into Singkawang.

Yes, I noticed that two turns in a row..sudden direction changes. I think they are purposely giving us the ol' Jimmy leg move. Either they are changing orders each turn or using waypoints as their TF's don't take the AI plot.

I think they would have done well to go after Palembang early. Clearly the RAF is not much of a threat and the Dutch Uglofortresses seem pretty well neutered as well. Even the B-17's are lucky to hit anything with 45-50 experience pilots.

Luzon my mind

Post by Cap Mandrake »

**************Dec, 22, 1941***************

Luzon: The Jap force at Bayombang increased substantially and now includes 47th Infantry Regt., the very aloof Tanaka Detachment, 48th Recon. Regt., 4th Tank Regt., Sasebo 1st SNLF and no less than 5 artillery units! They attacked before the two PS Bn's got clear. Some of pack howitzers were lost in the retreat but the casualties were about even. The Jap armor did not pursue so I will try to get everyone back to Clark for rest.

Clark airbase is almost completley repaired. I can move the P-40's from Manila is I have to. Clark is halfway to a level 2 fort. Bataan is halfway to level 3.

Effete, overindulgent, underpigmented oppressor of brown-skinned peoples #2: <sipping tea from white wicker chair> Oh, bloody Hell! Poor bastards. The place was indefensible, really.

Effete, overindulgent, underpigmented oppressor of brown-skinned peoples #1: Indeed. I'd like to see the little yellow bastards try that here.

Effete, overindulgent, underpigmented oppressor of brown-skinned peoples #2: Hahahahaha. Yes, a taste of Sheffield steel, that is what they will get.

Effete, overindulgent, underpigmented oppressor of brown-skinned peoples #1: Heheheheheheh....

OK..I corrected the spelling of "overindulgent". Odds are somethig else is wrong but do try to have some class and don't say anything.

OK..the second guy is not actually sipping the tea from the wicker chair. That would be stupid. It would all leak through and be bad for the chair. Plus, I could not warrant how it would taste either. In point of fact he is sitting in the chair while sipping the tea.

"Sheffield steel". There lies the problem. Clearly what they are lacking is some Toledo steel, the finest medieval weapon grade steel available. Maybe that TF which you plan on running through the Straits of Cortez, could deliver some Toledo steel. I'm sure that Hernan found the Toledo steel useful when he started to run out of ammo in Mexico City.

I blame the silly hats. Sure, tradition is important and all, but you can see the darn thing sticking up even when the wearer is behind cover. They just scream "SHOOT HERE" to snipers.

The Crabs stay in their racks.

The Pongoes get into a bit of a crap:

Attacking force 4778 troops, 28 guns, 69 vehicles, Assault Value = 179

Defending force 3606 troops, 32 guns, 11 vehicles, Assault Value = 153

Japanese adjusted assault: 78

Allied adjusted defense: 55

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), fatigue(-), morale(-), experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
101 casualties reported

Assaulting units:
5th Recon Regiment
55th Infantry Regiment

Defending units:
6th Indian Brigade

Over in Burma the NAAFI have been advised to get more nutty bars into Mandalay so the can man starts shifting crates up there.

23/12.

The day in bed seems to have done the Crabs some good. Looks like the dog and pony show at Singkawang was a bit of a smokescreen as many more units continue on to Palembang, but!

CA Ashigara, Bomb hits 4, on fire
DD Matsukaze, Bomb hits 1, on fire

and then:
BB Mutsu, Bomb hits 2
xAK Yamagata Maru, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
xAK Asahisan Maru, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires
xAKL Kiko Maru, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
with
652 casualties reported

And the the attack on Singkawang goes pear-shaped too:
Japanese ground losses:
184 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 14 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 14 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Allied ground losses:
91 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 6 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 10 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Meanwhile more IJN units spotted swanning about to the north of Ambon. Their purpose still remains a mystery.

I'm surprised to see that casual days weren't included on the list. According to my last employer, it was a great way to squeeze that extra ounce of productivity out of an already overworked staff.
