I'd like to start seeing defensive lines built in front of Moscow - you have the opportunity to start digging in now, so you should take it (if you have the men available).
This is going into effect this next turn.I have 5 rifle divisions that will be doing just that. But its been a meat grinder and quite expensive in formations.
I'm falling back and trying to use terrain and the fact he has got to be having supply and tiredness issues in my method of falling back. I need about 3+ good turns before Leningrad will be where I want it for siege. On the plus side of the coin he seems to be pushing through south of Smolensk with a main push.

Trying to keep him from making the "BIG SWEEP" of envelopment action,I move back. I can fall back like this all the way to Moscow.
I now have: Depleted divisions coming in. They have basically a battalions worth of men, some 800-900 troops and few guns. Are these the type of shells that will take 2+ weeks to fillout I can now expect to see?

My how my once proud Southwest Front has been handled in 6 weeks. At the least 1 to 2 corps of armor's destruction was due to my throwing them into the attack. Those Romanians will pay for luring me in dearly. Once the Axis ally is gone,German troops will need to be spread thinner to fill the gaps.
"Revenge is a dish best served cold eh?" I'm waiting for winter......

Thanks for the reply fellows on the "Depleted shell divisions",not what I wanted to hear but its not a surprise either. I'm going to take particular attention of Axis AFV losses this next turn, hopefully after another "bound" into my defenses guts. He must rest and re-organize sometime. Looks like I have some shell divisions on the way to Moscow.....Hope AGS needs a weeks breather!
I have a number of cavalry divisions,my plan......
1) Look for opportunity and dart in to isolate those brave hard driving panzers! Buy myself a turns respite as his infanty slogs their way to the rescue of his over-eager tankers!
Plan B..............
2) Practice looking impressive for this years May day celebration in Sverdlovsk
You can put shell divisions near the back of your defensive line; they'll dig in while receiving equipment and men. Having them dig in way back at their arrival town/city doesn't help much.
Tracking the amount of armor the Germans are loosing, seems some of these panzer divisions must by now be getting light. Also with close to 160,000 casualties and the mechanized forces doing a good deal of fighting they have to be hurting.

I'm not very pleased about this at all! I've lost another 47 units this past turn alone. The 2 pockets he formed on the Smolensk front have both more or less disappeared. I had to move my airbases back and lack of sufficient resupply aircraft cost me some divisions.

I was wrong,it wasn't a lack of supplies that caused a loss of those pocketed units. The Germans attacked all along the pockets, here is just one example:
