Leon Degrelle

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Hitler was appointed. Not elected. Papen could have kept Hitler from power. It was he who convinced Hindenburg to appoint Hitler Chancellor and it was he who allowed Nazi party members to be appointed to Cabinet posts. Remove Papen and you remove Hitler and the Nazis. They would have had to form a coalition party, laughable, or attempted another coup.
And who appointed von Papen? Oh, fancy that, it was Hindenberg.

Mainly Papen thought Hitler could be controlled once he was in the government. So he convinced Hindenburg to forget his scruples and make Hitler Chancellor within a cabinet that wasn't Nazi Party dominated. Papen and friends were rather promptly marginalized via Hitler. He left the government after the Night of the Long Knives. This was when some of his allies were murdered by Nazis.

Papen wanted Hitler appointed as a measure of revenge against von Schleicher. Following the November 1932 elections, the government could not maintain a working parliamentary majority, Papen was forced to resign, and Schleicher succeeded him as Chancellor of Germany.

So there you have it. The world was plunged into a world war as an act of revenge. [:D]

Why the hell no one has made a movie of this period in German history is beyond me. It has all the trappings of a backstabbing political blockbuster. Maybe Charlie Sheen could play Hitler. They're both nutty as a fruitcake.

And what were Hindenberg's scruples? He regarded Hitler as a lower middle class upstart? Adapted for a changed political situation, Hitler prepered and put into practice the same expansionist policy for which Hindenberg dedicated his energies in the first world war. Von Papen was Hindenberg's puppet.

The november 1932 elections saw a major decline in the nazis vote and an increase in support for the SPD and KPD. An upsurge in working class militancy and a decline in the political fortunes of the bulwark against that, the nazis, is what decided the issue, not personal revenge. The German ruling class needed Hitler to do a job for them. This he did, and he didn't inconvenience them half as much as they make out today.

It was in the night of the long knives that von Schleicher was murdered. Von Papen congratulated Hitler, but not for the death of Schleicher particularly, but the end of the SA. Having served its purpose in the run up to achieving state power, the decapitation of the SA effectively put an end to the socialist pretensions in "national socialism". Hitler's socialist demagogy and his association with people like Rohm is what unsettled some among the german ruling class. When von Papen and his kind talk of seeking to control Hitler, this is what they mean. It was for putting an end to any prospect of the so called "second revolution" for which von Papen and his ilk were so grateful.

Can I answer this question[8|] First I would size up who the heck has the nerve to question what I'm reading, being in particular I live in America and all, Thank God[&o] Now if that person was annoying as say someone I won't name that posts here that appears to be a troll like liberal luny with an extreme backward way of thinking, I would tell that person to move on as they have no clue and it's none of thier concern in essense! If that doesn't work, I guess it's time to breakout that 'ole can of whoop A**[X(] Don't mess with Texas, we still have Freedom here!

I just checked my library and I have about 600 books on WWII and only two deal with the Holocaust at length, those two books were part of a series is why I even have them! I don't need any books on that subject as my T.V., Newspapers and schools have been infested with the subject matter for about 45 some odd years now... I have three kids in school and they are telling me about all this stuff, all over again.

Bottom line "Get over it, it happened, it's done"[X(]

BTW, I finished "Degrelle's" book finally and enjoyed it! Amazing since I'm not even a NAZI or even a want-to-be at that...

'Get over it, it happened, it's done'

Is this in reference to the camps? I'm asking because surely your not discarding what happened with such a line. Surely not?
I see you said 'Don't mess with Texas, we still have Freedom here!'...

What kind of freedom allows a man to be so dismissive?
Empathy and understanding are not traits to be only set aside for liberals, feeling for the poor wretched souls who died in the camps is not being weak or a loon.

If your willing to read the words of a Nazi- and exclaim its greatness, maybe you should read the words of a Nazi's victim to fully round off your joy of freedom!

Well no need to highlight anything here, it's all wrong and no need to put words in my mouth, thanks though! Maybe you should re-read what I wrote in the context in which it was written assuming you can see after wiping the tears from your eyes? Oh and the part about Freedom to answer such a silly question, one of the things it means here in the U.S. is "choice". BTW, I think you guys over there have some of that "Freedom" stuff going on too, enjoy while you can! As one thoughtful Poster here had mentioned the "Thought Police". Careful they may be coming to your town and already apparently entered your head, put on your Tin Foil Hat back on, it will help with the thought scans[:D]

I'm unsure as to how I put words into your mouth my friend, I just quoted what you said...
Maybe you should stand up for what you wrote instead of pleading the context defence- freedom comes at a price, and one of those prices is standing by your words, no matter how big a fool you sound.

We have freedom here in Australia too, we also stand behind our words- I've never been concerned with "the thought police" whoever they are?
The imagination can be a powerful thing...

But if your argument relies on:

-Denying your own words.
-Claiming being taken out of context.
-Misplaced patriotism
-Imaginary, phantom "thought police".

If that really is your argument, I'm wasting my time and your stealing oxygen at a rapid rate.

Harmlessly passing your time in the grassland away;
Only dimly aware of a certain unease in the air.
You better watch out,
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Iraq, and i have seen
Things are not what they seem.

That's where not locking up political threads can lead to: Inflationary buttoning up people for debatable yet undebated reasons who might provide you with valuable game/history input in less mislead and hotheaded threads.

Well, this thread has seen it all. I'm sorry I was too busy to notice it earlier. As a reminder, politics and personal attacks are not allowed here. This forum exists for us to share our interest in gaming. Certainly the historical topics of our games include historical politics, but fishing or trolling for controversy is not a way to "share". Please keep it civil and friendly.

Thread locked.
