Larry,
Watch your FOW.  Most of the time 1 torp will not put an allied xAK down.  On the other hand, 1 torp frequently will kill an IJ xAK.  Damage control is really different.

Larry, it's not a good idea to mix Patrol Boats with true fast warships. PB are really not suitable for surface combat TF, they slow down cruisers and destroyers, and PBs don't have firepower or experience to do anything. PBs are there only for escorting transports, and ASW duty if you're desperate.

Always check ship's speed. Slow ships are not for a surface combat.

Two things PBs are good for:

- Prevent surface attacks by submarines on your cargo ships early in the game
- Draw torpedo away from your cargo ships late in the game

AKA Cannonfodder

My bad. You're absolutely correct. I'll fix those places when I go through the list of TF's when I do my moves. Thanks for the reminder. Good catch by the way.

Yeah, I'll believe just about anything I see in the papers too. Note to self: I gotta remember FOW effects in this game.

Many thanks. Doing these kinds of AAR's helps me pay attention to the smallest details that are important because it's those things I want to bring to the attention of my readers etc. I'm pretty sure that people that do AAR's turn into better players eventually.

So um......I thought I'd just load up some aircraft and convey them to the PI and unload them no problem. But NOOOoooooo, I find that port size is important. TF 82 was a three-ship TF that I found that couldn't dock when they arrived. So I detatched one of the ships and made it into it's own TF and sure enough it COULD dock. But the other two ships STILL couldn't dock so I've decided to move them to Batan Island and see if I can dock there. D'oh. I wish I had checked out that little detail beforehand. EDIT: The reason I'm making such a big deal out of docking is that it's my understanding that the ships have to be docked to load and unload aircraft. I may be wrong.

Why are you transporting planes, why not just fly them? Ki-15 and G4M have good range, you can pretty much fly them anywhere you want...

Works for me. I'm still learning this game. Um.....I'm just about to capture Shortlands and I'd really like to put some planes there and there's no consecutive chain of airbases to fly some planes there so I'm guessing I'll have to ship some but I guess that's just about the only kind of situation where you'd ship planes. Yes?

Here's a question for you economy experts: I was tinkering around with the oil refinery's looking for ways to boost the output of supplies for China and I found a refinery in Bangkok and when I went to expand it the message was that it would cost X amount of HI and Y amount of manpower........so I looked at the manpower pool and saw that I had enough manpower available and the thought occured to me.....why would you not want to put all that manpower to work immediately doing something productive? Is there some minimum amount of manpower that you need to reserve for some other purpose besides industry? I'm thinking of expanding all kinds of industry things so as to use up all that extra manpower because I don't know of a good reason not to. Yes?

Here's the situation about those fleeing Allied boats from HK. I've eliminated the middle group......now there's just remnants left.

I'm finding, as I try to learn to play the Japanese, that re-reading Chapter 13 is useful. It illustrates why Tracker shows what it does. Re Manpower, you need it for replacements in military units, as well as some forms of military device production. When a new LCU comes onto the map you'll be charged for its initial outfitting. A division usually costs something around or just above 3000 Manpower points, all charged that one turn. You're still early and haven't seen a lot of LCUs activate, but you will. Those "fees" are manageable, but you need to run a balance in Manpower to be ready. Of the major accounts, I find it's the easiest to keep in the black.

"...but you need to run a balance in Manpower to be ready [ for LCU manning ]...."
Oh. Okay, now I know. Thank you for that.

My blockers didn't block adequately and there's at least two Allied raiders headed for my Miri / Brunei landings. D'oh. It looks like a race for the beaches and I'm losing.

The contents of the Manila harbour emptied out and is now streaming south and they ran right past my blockers: a sub and a small TF of 8 ships. They aren't warships so I COULD chase them down and maybe catch a few but it would be time consuming and I need my blockers to block right where they are because of a small fleet of PT's still parked at Manila that could threaten my PI landings. It appears that my blockers went after an Allied sub while the rest of the Manila harbour sneaked past. D'oh.

Of all the bombardment that took place at Wake last night my CL was the only thing damaged. Note to self: Don't use anything smaller than a CA on bombardment missions.

8 ( eight ) squads were lost during the landings at Guam so I guess the landing there is going semi-okie dokie.

I almost forgot to attach the combat report to a post for those of you who want to view it in it's entirety. Just click on the attachment link, then click on the filename and then resize the window to see it.
