Turn 10. 9/24/1940. Rain (Dry). The British counterattack in London and destroy the 11th infantry and badly damage the 2nd. This is bitter fighting; but I will continue to press hard without consideration to losses as I need to clear London and move onto my remaining objectives.

Fierce fighting for London continues with the Wehrmacht making good progress. And, Leading almost fall stubbornly holding at 1-step.

A new unit, the 30th Grenadier, was commissioned this turn and immediately sent to the thick of things south of London.

Turn 11. 9/25/1940. Rain (Muddy). Blasted weather! No matter, London is almost mine. Time is running short with only 8 turns left (for a marginal victory). Recon elements push onwards to Oxford. I do hope the weather clears next turn so the Luftwaffe can get back into the war.

Turn 12. 9/26/1940. Clear (Dry). London falls leaving 4 more objective cities (Oxford, Ipswich, Southampton and (off map) Bristol). Though I’m happy with the capture of London, the fact is that I only have 7 more turns left to complete the operation. And, I lost another core unit this turn, the 27th Pz IVD.

Turn 13. September 27, 1940. Clear (Dry). Time is running out! It’s now a mad rush to capture the remaining 4 objective cities.

Another RAF air unit is downed. I’m not sure what’s left but it can’t be much.

Oxford, Bristol and Southampton left here.

Another new unit, the 34th Grenadier commissioned and moved directly to the action.

Turn 14. 9/28/1940. Cloudy (Dry). Last turn for a decisive victory and I’m no where near achieving that. I have 5 turns to pull out a marginal victory.

Turn 15. 9/29/1940. Cloudy (Dry). I just may pull this off! Oxford and Southampton are captured. Ipswitch is occupied by not with a unit that can capture it. So, it will be captured next turn. Effectively, the only remaining objective is Bristol and I have 4 turns to get that city.

Also, two more unit citations this turn.

Turn 17. 10/1/1940. Rain (Dry). As expected, Bristol falls this turn. Now all I have to do is to hold onto it (and all other objective cities I hold), which I don’t think will be that difficult. The only city I failed to take in my area of responsibility was Lyme Regis.

The Brits make an gallant try to retake Bristol by counterattacking from Lyme Regis. The come up way short; but do manage to inflict a few more step losses on the final turn of this campaign. Looks like England will be suing for peace. Or will they?

Well this game breaks my string of decisive victories and my streak of preserving my core units. I lost 5 in this campaign compared to 1 total in the other four combined.

Unit losses, kills, step losses and kill for Sea Lion is given on the left and the summary to date (9/1/39 – 10/1/40) is provided on the right.

Though this was only a marginal victory the fact that I captured southern England including London, Portsmouth and Southampton, and the Kriegsmarines sunk 6 capital ships and the Luftwaffe swept the skies of the RAF would historically go down as one, if not the, greatest victory in land, air and sea warfare. The fact that it took me 17-days versus 14-days I don't think would amount to a hill of beans to the historians.

WHAT?! REALLY!? Let’s see I hold London, Dover, Southampton, Bristol, Oxford and Ipswich. The KM has gained control over the English Channel and the RN is nowhere to be found. And, the Luftwaffe has swept the skies of the RAF and can fly at will and unopposed anywhere over southern England. A madman must be charge of the Germany armed forces to order me and my command to abandon our current, and hard fought, positions, pull us back to German and deploy us to only he knows where.

It looks to me like your core units suffer because you have not upgraded them enough.

Your AAR is inspirational and have made me begun a new campaign game. [&o][:)]

That's high praise coming from a player of your caliber. [:)]

With respect to upgrading my units, I agree. My dilemma during deployment is do I want to fill an open core slot with a new unit or use those prestige points to upgrade an existing unit. I think I'm learning that it's better to upgrade existing units and have less than your full allotment of core units than to skip upgrading in favor or more units. Like all such choice there's a balance there, which I need to find.
