From what I've read the P-40's held the line until the modern fighters were available. At least with the Army Air Force?

As a kid I bought a model of HMS Iron Duke. Thought she looked awesome. And still think she got the look.

I don’t think I’ve seen the picture of the two of them before - it’s normally the shot of a B-25 taking off from Hornet that accompanies raid stories. Nice.
