Axis gains intiative despite an Allied reroll.

Axis Impulse #1

Fine everywhere with a roll of 2.

Germany takes a Land, Italy takes a combined, Japan takes a Naval.

Japan moves a CV fleet into the Polynesian Sea with a couple of loaded Divisions and transports a couple of land units out of Japan. It also moves to protect its convoy lines somewhat. Italy moves some CLs into the 4 box in the Italian Coast.
Naval combat is activated in Polynesia. Both sides find but nobody has excess surprise. The American CA is aborted in the Naval air combat and the sea area is cleared. No other combats are successfully activated by the Axis.

Japanese STRAT bombing of Lanchow fails to achieve any positive result. Germany attempts GS of a hex NW of Gomel and a surrounded forest hex 2 hexes NE of Smolensk, while both Italy and Germany attempt with an LND and ART respectively to GS a hex east of Dnepropetrovsk. The Russians intercept near Gomel and Dnepropetrovsk and are counter-intercepted by German FTRs. Near Gomel, an LND is cleared through and the remainder also go through due to the Russian FTR being aborted. The LND also clears in the South. In the forest hex, both units are disorganized. Near Gomel, there is a notable lack of success. 2 of the 3 ARM units near Dnepropetrovsk are disorganized.

German rails a couple of INF to the Russian Front and into Italy. It moves a white print INF unit into Tripoli while the Italians move an INF out. An Italian ART is moved out of the way of an imminent Blitz attack in the south. 2 German attacks are declared, one in the north and the other in the south of Russia. Ground support is sent by both sides in the south but none is allocated in the north. In the south, 1 Russian FTR and LND are destroyed while all German LND get through unscathed. In the combats, the northern hex is taken without issue. However, once more, the Germans find themselves beating their heads against a wall, taking out a Russian ARM div while losing a MOT div and an INF while also becoming disorganized.

No rebases for any Axis power are left. 3 ARM-HQ are used to reorganize 13 points in the Southern Front.

Axis gains initiative despite an Allied reroll.

Allied Impulse #2

The CW, USA and France take Naval Actions while China and the USSR take Land.

USA and CW move fleets into position along Moroccan Coast and Algeria/Tunisia with a few units on AMPHs, TRSs and CAs. The USA also moves a large CV fleet into the Polynesian area to confront the Japanese invasion fleet there.

CW activates Italian Coast; however, the Italians find with 5 surprise. They decide to go SUB hunting... 2 escorts are aborted while the 2 CW SUBs are damaged. In the East Med, both sides find with the CW having 4 surprise. Naval air happens and all 4 points go to increasing attack column for the Allies. The air combat clears an American NAV through while aborting an Italian NAV... both sides abort the air combat. In the Naval combat, 2 Italian CLs are aborted. There is no 2nd round. In the Polynesian Sea Zone, the Japanese find with 7 surprise. They avoid combat.

China STRAT bombs Canton with an escorted TB3 (a 5 factor A-A escort). A Japanese FTR rises to intercept. 3 CW bombers attack Lille. A German interceptor takes them on with a resulting counter interception by 4 CW FTRs. 1 CW bomber is aborted, but the German FTR is destroyed along with the pilot. Over Canton, a 19 blows away the Chinese Strat bomber leaving no bombing run. The 12 CW bombing factors result in no BP damage to Germany. The CW attempts an ART GS on the unit stack in Tripoli but fails.

There are no rail moves done. Russia works on solidifying its lines. China does likewise.

No rebases are done, but Russian ATRs reorganize an FTR. Russian HQ do some needed reorganizations in the south. Alexander reorganizes an LND. In Hawaii, Nimitz reorganizes 2 Essex CVs and a long range BB.

Axis Impulse #3

The next weather is very much worse with a 10 meaning Storm in Arctic, North Temperate and N. Monsoon, rain in the Med and Fine in S. Temperate.

Italy and Germany take a combined while Japan takes a land impulse.

Italy moves a SUB into the Faroes Gap and Germany moves 2 more. Germany attempts to activate combat in the Faroes Gap but is denied when both sides fail search rolls.

Italy rails its HQ in Rome to put German ARM in supply to move forward into Russia. Germany moves units toward the front and Japan moves units around Manila. More units are debarked around that city as well. The divisions in the Polynesian Sea debark to an island bordering the Solomon Zone, choosing the better part of valor. No land attacks are declared.

Germany uses its moves to do a number of rebases of A/C to more useful locales as does Japan. There are no reorganizations done by HQ.

Allied Impulse #5

Looking for better weather next impulse, the Allies forgo a DoW on Vichy for now.

USA, France and CW do combineds, while China and USSR will do Land actions.

CW moves a TRS from Palestine to St. Vincent's. The USA moves Fleets from Honolulu and the Fiji Islands into the Polynesian Sea to confront the Japanese fleet there. The CW activates in the East Med and a NAV is brought into the 2 Box of the zone by Germany. No one finds. Similarly, the Americans attempt to activate in Polynesia. Both sides fine with no extra surprise points. A naval air combat is selected. 1 Allied bomber is aborted, 1 destroyed and 1 cleared while for the Japanese, 1 FTR and 1 CVP Bomber are destroyed while a CVP FTR is aborted. 1 Japanese CV is damaged and the rest of the Japanese fleet aborts the sea area.

USA rails a Mexican INF to Los Angeles. No other rail moves are done. Russia moves to retake the resource across the Kerch Strait. Otherwise, it covers various points where the Germans might make a blitz breakthrough in future. CW moves forward in N. Africa.

No attacks are declared and a few rebases are done.

Axis Impulse #7

Weather is outrageous w/ a roll of 9. Snow in the Arctic, Storm in N. Temperate and N. Monsoon, Rain everywhere else.

Germany takes a Land, Italy and Japan take combineds.

Italy shifts a stack in the Italian Coast into the 1 box. Japan picks up a couple of divisions in the Solomon's and moves some AMPHs and TRSs into the Bismarck Sea in anticipation of reorganizing a unit or 2. Italy attempts to activate in the Faroes Gap and, once again, fails.

No STRAT bombing is done by the Axis. German uses 2 LND to GS in the north. It is intercepted by Russia and countered by Germany. Germany destroys a Russian FTR and takes no losses as both are cleared through. In the GS, both Russian ground units are inverted.

Italy rails a unit to Algiers. German land moves involve shifting units forward and setting up for an attack on the northern front with Finnish winterized units heavily involved. Japan invades an isolated island in the Bismark Sea. Germany declares an attack against a hex somewhat North and East of Smolensk. An air combat occurs over said hex when both Germans bring in FTR and LND for ground support. The German LND is aborted and its FTR destroyed while the Russians lose 1 LND but clear another.

The Japanese invasion in the Bismarck Sea is +21 and succeeds. In Northern Russia, the Germans roll another 8 and lose a weak MOT and are disorganized. They gain the hex, though.

Germany rebases some air forward even more. Germany reorganizes an FTR in the north. Japan uses naval reorg on a CV and CA in Truk.

The turn does not end as 8>2.

Allied Impulse #10

USA, France take a combined. The CW, Russia and China take land actions.

Not much is done for Naval moves. The USA moves some units in the Polynesian sea zone down to the 0 box. It attempts to activate in the East Med. The Axis gains surprise and again avoids combat.

No STRAT bombing of GS are attempted. Nor are there any rail moves. During Land, the CW moves to surround Tripoli. Russian moves some winterized units around in the north. One attack is declared on the newly conquered hex near Smolensk. No Ground Support is added and odds do not look all that favourable even with winterized units in on the attack. A 6 modified to 8 Blitz does not help, losin Russia a MECH Div and disorganizing the attackers.

After rebases and reorgs, the turn ends on a 1.

Nov/Dec 1942

Axis gain initiative and choose to move first.

Axis Impulse #1

Weather is Snow in the N. Temperate and Arctic, Rain in the Med and S. Monsoon, and Fine in the N. Monsoon and S. Temperate.

Germany takes a land while Italy and Japan take Naval actions.

Italy moves an FTR into the West Med Sea Box (0). Japan moves naval units to confirm sea zone control and protect convoys. Several CAs are loaded with divisions for invasion of (hopefully) out of supply hexes in interior areas that are still under CW control.

After activation in the Faroes Gap, both sides are successful so a surface battle ensues. No one has the benefit of surprise. 1 CW CL is aborted and 2 German SUBs are likewise removed from the combat. There is no 2nd round as the remaining SUB in the 0 box elects to submerge. The CW elects to initiate combat in the West Med hoping to catch a loaded Italian TRS. The CW achieves surprise w/ 4 points. It chooses to take a Naval Air action and to add all 4 factors to increase air attack columns. The Germans destroy the CW CVP, while the CW abort the German FTR. The result is no combat occurs and the Naval phase ends.

No STRAT bombing is done by the Axis. GS attempts are done by Germany with ART and LND a hex east of Dnepropetrovsk and one west of Kharkov and by LND SW of Kalinin as well as by Japan with 2 NAV on Manila. The one west of Kharkov and near Kalinin are intercepted and counter-intercepted. Near Kalinin, one German bomber is cleared while the other is destroyed. Near Kharkov, another German LND is destroyed. The one GS in the north is remarkably effective and flips 2 units. Near Dnepropetrovsk, the 4 ART hits 3 times in the Snow and the other 2 units, an ART and an LND, do not even need to roll. In Manila, neither McArthur nor the Philippine TERR are disorganized.

German rails 3 units to the Russian Front. Ground moves are made to take possible attacks against various targets, both north and south. German debarks a MIL off an Italian TRS into Tunis.

Germany declares 2 attacks, one in the north and one in the south. Ground support is sent to both and countered with some added. In the north, a Finnish LND is destroyed and the other German LND aborts while all two Russian LNDs get through unopposed. In the south, a Russian LND is destroyed and the other aborts once the Russian FTR aborts, while Germany loses an LND.

In attacks, in the south near Dnepropetrovsk, the attack is once more terribly ineffective with a roll of 6 modified to 11 causing the loss of a MOT div and disorganization of the attackers. In the north near Kalinin, the hex is taken without loss to either side; however, 1/2 the attackers are disorganized.

Italy rebases an LND into Russia. Germany reorganizes several units in the south and a couple of A/C and a unit in the north in Russia. Japan reorganizes a 3 ground attack NAV in the Philippines.

Allied Impulse #3

The CW, France and USA all take a Naval Action. China and Russia take a Land.

The CW moves a NAV into the Coral Sea 3 box.

USA and CW move naval units into various advantageous positions. Most notably, what appear to be invasion fleets appear of the coasts of Morocco and Algeria. Also, there are moves by the US navy to confront the Japanese navy in the Coral Sea.
Several Allied searches fail except activation does occur in the East Med with the Italians getting 7 surprise points... thereby avoiding combat. An Italian SUB search in the North Atlantic suffers a similar fate with the CW getting 6 surprise and using that to avoid combat.

Neither STRAT nor GS is attempted by any of the Allied powers.

No rail moves are done. Russia does see an opportunity to engage in a winterized attack in the north, and makes moves to do so.

Russia declares 1 attack in the north against German and Finnish units in the hex they recently took control of. Germany brings in 5/2 factors of ground support which cannot be intercepted by Russia. Both sides have winterized units which use their benefit and Russia declares a Blitz. Russia does gain the hex without loss to either side, but 1/2 of attackers are disorganized.

Russia reorganizes several units in the north and south using ATRs and HQ.

Axis Impulse #5

Weather roll is a 5 giving Fine in N. Monsoon and S. Temperate, Rain in the Med and S. Monsoon, Storm in the N. Temperate and Snow in the Arctic.

Italy and Germany take combined Actions, while Japan takes a Land.

Germany moves some convoy escorts into the Baltic. Italy attempts to initiate combat in the North Atlantic... but fails.

There is no STRAT bombing. Japan conducts GS against Manila. McArthur is flipped.

Germany moves to stiffen its lines. Italy moves an HQ in Russia to a better place. Japan debarks a number of units and looks to invade with some others to consolidate its interior.

Attacks are declared on a couple of islands in the Bismarck Sea and on Manila by Japan. Germany makes no attacks. The attacks in the Bismarck Sea are automatic. Manila is taken convincingly.

Nothing else happens.

Allied Impulse #7

US and France take a combined. The CW, Russia and China take land actions.

No moves are made into any sea zones by the Allies; however, several activations are attempted. In the South China Sea, the American SUBs unfortunately for them are spotted by literally the whole Japanese fleet in those waters. Of the SUBs, 1 is destroyed, 1 is damaged, and 1 aborts. In the West Med, the CW forces find the Italians with 7 surprise. 4 points decrease damage and 3 are used to select a target in a surface combat. An Italian TRS is damaged and a CL aborted. One CW CL is damaged and another is aborted. In the 2nd round, the Italians bring in a NAV and FTR to the 1 Box. No one finds anyhow. There are no other successful activations.

Allied Impulse #7 con't

No STRAT bombing is undertaken, but the CW attempts some GS. The CW disorganizes one of the units in Tripoli.
CW moves units around Tripoli to concentrate their attacks. There are attacks on Tripoli and an invasion of Oran by CW MAR and Div and a US MIL. Russia declares against a Germany stack in the north. Ground support is added to the Tripol and Oran attacks by the Allies. Neither side adds any in Russia.

In the north, Russia rolls a poor 3 for its blitz. It loses a MOT div and a white-print INF and is disorganized. Against Tripoli, with a roll of 19, the CW takes the city. They roll an 8 on Oran and a US MIL and CW Div are lost.

There are no reorganizations and a couple of rebases.

The turn does not end with a 9>2.

Axis #9 Impulse

Weather roll is 9 giving Blizzard in the Arctic, Snow in the N. Temperate, Storm in the Med and S. Monsoon, and Fine in the N. Monsoon and S. Temperate.

Japan and Italy take combineds, while Germany takes a naval action.

Japan picks up its divisions in the Bismarck Sea with some cruisers. It also embarks an INF near Manila onto an AMPH. Italy move CLs in Athens into the Italian Coast evading interception. Germany moves ships to guard the Baltic convoys and lands a couple of units in Norway with their TRS. It moves the ships it had in northern Finland into the Norwegian Sea. A number of Vichy ships in Syria move out into the West and East Med.

In the North Sea, activation finds that the Allies have found with all ships and considerable surprise (8). 1 CW CL is damaged and 1 German CL is destroy while the other is damaged. There is no 2nd round. No other areas successfully activate.

No Strat Bombing or GSs are done by any Axis power.

A Japanese Div moves to take North Borneo. An INF debarks into Rabaul.

Nothing happens much as far as rebases and reorganizations.

7>4 so that the turn does not end.

Allied Impulse #12

France, USA and CW take combineds, while China and Russia take Lands.

CW TRS takes an American FTR from Halifax to Cape St. Vincent. No much else happens as no naval combats see successful searches by either side.

The CW does a massive 5 plane STRAT Bombing of Lille. It goes unintercepted. The 12 factors do nothing with a 1 roll. As for GS, Russia sends 3 LND to a hex just west of Stalino. German counters with 2 interceptors which Russia meets in equal numbers. Despite having superior quality and equal numbers, the German FTRs are both aborted while all Russian LND clear without losses. After all that, 1 of the 3 German units, a strong ARM, is disorganized.

CW moves its MAR along the Algerian coast towards Algiers. On the other side of the sea zone, a unit moves to take ports along the Tunisian coast. Russia works to maximize winterized units for an attack near Stalino. American units are debarked in Tunisia and Gibraltar.

Allies declare only 1 attack near Stalino. Germans add ground support as does Italy. Both sides in the battle use their winter units. Russia doe get the hex, but loses a MOT div.

American Aircraft do some rebases in the area of Gibraltar and some others making the trip to the UK via Greenland. A Mustang moves to an island adjacent to the Coral Sea.

Turn ends on a 3<7.
