Thats not as bad as I thought. I was thinking closer to 4. It allays some of my own fears as I face
a total collapse in China as well. (assuming the game continues and I have had an email three or
four days ago to that effect) with the VP total a bit more lopsided than your own. I do not like being
in a position forcing me to go after higher VP targets early as opposed to areas which make more
sense tactically.

Even better, that is the end of the Chungking carnage. I really have no idea how many VP were lost in the siege.

A little discussion I didn't put in the main entry...

Having lost track of the IJN fleet carriers I am, obviously, wondering 'where are they and what are they up to?'. I've had to guard against the possibility they might be hunting, either the retreating USN carriers or the battleships withdrawing to the north more toward Midway. All of the old BB's should be pretty safe although that's not guaranteed. The fast BB's ventured a little farther a little longer due to reacting or just running into IJN surface TF's. The fast BB's are in good shape damage wise (but low on or out of main gun ammo) but two damaged DD's have been slowing them down. Those two DD's detached this turn and the fast BB's will make full speed for one day to put some ocean between them and any carriers looking for juicy targets without air cover. I think that CL TF bombardment of Wake Island did help to reduce detection by search out of Wake as DL's in the area dropped a good deal.

The other possibility for the IJN fleet carriers is they ran past our sub patrol concentration and are nearing Truk, perhaps undamaged carriers already there replenishing.

Our own fleet carriers will be repairing and replenishing at Pearl Harbor in a few days, then I will assess what can put to sea to continue with current operations. The two considerations are supporting the division on Maloelap and invading the other two targets.

I am thinking damaged CVE's will go to the west coast to allow the PH yard to focus on the fleet carriers and surface combat ships which are better repaired in theater (others also going to the WC).

The game shows CV Kaga, CVL Ryujo, and CVE Taiyo as sunk. I'm pretty sure some other CVE's are reef building too.

Current damage status of USN CV's. In addition there is one CVE still in dry dock at Pearl Harbor, 30 sys, 10 float, 12 days estimated. Considering damage to our carriers and damage to IJN carriers I think it's fair to say the next set of carrier battles will be smaller in scale. [:D]

So here are my assumptions of current IJN status, carrier by carrier (using those seen in April as the base list).

CV Akagi - Yard Time
CV Hiryu - Undamaged
CV Kaga - Sunk or Extensive Yard Time
CV Shokaku - Yard Time, Possibly Minor
CV Zuikaku - Yard Time
CV Soryu - Undamaged
CV Taiho - Undamaged
CVE Hosho - Yard Time, Possibly Minor
CVE Chuyo - Sunk
CVE Taiyo - Sunk
CVE Unyo - Undamaged
CVE Ryujo - Sunk
CVL Shoho - Yard Time
CVL Zuiho - Sunk or Extensive Yard Time

Also, some significant surface combat ship results.

BB Ise - Sunk
BB Haruna - Possible Minor Yard Time (bomb hit)
BB Hiei - Yard Time (several 16" hits)
CA Mikuma - Sunk
CA Suzuya - Sunk or Extensive Yard Time
CA Ashigara - Yard Time (bomb hit)
CA Myoko - Yard Time (16" shell hit)
CA Chokai - Yard Time (bomb hit)

Some CL and DD sent home too. A number of submarines were sunk and others pummeled, but plenty are still out there hunting our ships.

• We simply are not getting enough supplies for our offensive in Burma. Bummer. one division will leave Taung Gyi to reduce over-stacking supply losses and maybe even upgrade squads some day. We are building the ports on the Arakan to receive small continuous convoys and hopefully push more supply into Burma through that route.

1943 April 20

INVADED
Urumchi, Taung Gyi are invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall

• Our two fleet carriers have upgraded to Hellcats and replenished DB and TB's; they sail tonight. Our fast battleships need another day to finish rearming as the port was overwhelmed today. BB Massachusetts will enter dry dock for repairs. BB Maryland (16 inch, 21 knots) is waiting to finish rearming and for battle worthy destroyers to come ready or get back to Pearl.

• CV Essex arrives at Balboa in 23 days. We already have two destroyers there waiting for her; we really need her in the line.
