This is amazing - great work[&o]. I've been away for a week and just read the last 100 posts.
I have to admit though that I had visions of your first Mariannas invasion repeating - glad to see the complete opposite[:D] And KB finally finished as well....

I cannot go near the Iwo hex because my heavies are replenishing and his are based at Bonin and until I neutralise Bonin he comes and goes as he pleases.
 
My Carriers are picking up damage and 3 should really be sent to the West Coast already.
 
My Fighters are exhausted and I am filling up sqns with 30xp pilots.
 
KB was an annoyance that should have been used deep against my LOC IMO but despite his losses PZB keep coming.
 
From 30,000 ish he is now up to 70,000 troops and that adjusted AV is terrifying I am honestly not sure how to take Iwo its going to be a tough nut.
 
Unfortunately total Air Superiorty is not yet mine so this is going to be tough I have decided I need to try and keep Iwo isolated but need to take Wake.
 
If I can take Wake I can base 200 Superforts there and start pounding.

Something I would say my AA has saved lots of ships you must make plenty of AE's and use them in 45 they are lifesavers

AS you say Wake is the most important step now, do you use your assetts to get Wake as fast as possible? You might want to bomb and shell it, then finish it off using all your firepower, including 4E bombers from Midway. You need Wake and you need it now, so do everything possible to get it.

I agree this turn I ordered extensive Ground Attacks Bombardments and a Shock attack and I will continue with them for a few more days.

Once Wake is mine the rest will follow

I have ordered 3 Carriers to move SE towards Marcus with minimal escort 2 strong TG's have been ordered NE to try and get the BB and TF that is inbound to Iwo

Last point although I have landed 3 Divisions onto Iwo I 'may' send follow on forces elsewhere there is an old adage about not reinforcing faliure that springs to mind PZB has managed to reinforce heavily already but he must have bled his AF dry doing it much as I have.
 
A long grinding campaign at Iwo may well be what I am stuck with but perhaps its time to rethink before committing more forces perhaps Northern Japan is an option given how much he has stripped his forces especially as we are still moving forward.
 
Flexibility is my middle name after all.
 
I am going to ponder this for a few days.
 
I have killed KB, I have sank at least 20% of his surface ships, I have to have killed most of his trained pilots and planes, overall this campaign has bled both sides white - does that leave opportunities elsewhere.
 
Before I commit the 7 follow on Divions I need to consider my options a little more.

Well an interesitng turn I intended to sit 3 hexes from Bonins and send in massive stikes from my TF's - ony 4 fleet carriers per hex

But the demon murphy got in the way and 5 of my 6 TF's reacted tot he same hex !!!!

The better news my carriers reacting saved my bacon had my carriers not reacted those torrents of planes would have hit isolated TF's

The bad news I recieved 190 fresh Hellcats looks like 50% lost already

The Helldivers going for Wake cost me a decisive naval strike

When Marcus hits lvl 4 I will withdraw all but the mustangs and recon birds from Marcus and bring in 3 B24J Gps to allow me to keep AF's supressed.

So I will have 250 B29's on Wake and 150 B24J's on Marcus and some of the pressure will ease on my Carriers they just need to hold the line for a few more days and I can re organise my shredded strike groulps and send the worst damaged ships to the West Coast
 
At that point I reall only need 4 fighting TG's 2 to cover Iwo and 2 to cover Marcus as the islands will be suppressed by Heavies

PZB has not sent through the turn but I will do a comprehensive Jap sunk list and work out the status of my various TG's I think at least 3 Fleet Carriers and 2 Light Carriers will need West Coast refits 3 or 4 others will need a Pearl refit.
 
I will need at least 8 Operational Fleet Carriers to support the invasion TF's at Iwo

With absolute hind sight I should have waited gotten Wake and Marcus to lvl 4 and 5 and then committed to a fight by trying to bounce IwoJima I let PZB know where I was going and he committed his reserves accordingly.
 
I should have waited and brought 3 Corps in the first wave used the extra lift capacity to add a 4th Div to each of Wake and Marcus Island attacks
 
I was over ambitious - I really question whether iwo is takable now however many men I bring.

Andy, when you have Wake and Marcus, you have much less trouble with Iwo. I think you still can get Iwo and Bonin, just try to not loose your Corps on Iwo. Bringing in supplies and reinforcement will be harmfull, there are lots of guns on Iwo now.
When PzB brought in reserves he will have brought supplies, too. He´ll have about 100000supplies there (rough estimate), so you´ll need a prolonged bombing campaign.
Possibly it would help to damage the ports on Iwo and Bonin so he couldn´t unload as fast as he does. Keep his airfields closed, they will be repaired and use up supplies, you know the game.
Can you reach the Japanese mainland with bombers? From Marcus? How about strategic night attacks? Just burn some of his cities, this might reduce his willingness to put resources into Iwo.
Those night bombers only attack if the TF is sighted in the night turn (iIrc). This means you have a sub problem. Hunt down those buggers, they are really dangerous.

I sent in several light TF's to try and pick off forces at the Bonins

I sank a LOT of ships today but losses were heavy I cannot keep this up much longer

Independence and Bellau Woo should make it but they will need a west cost refit.

Hancock, Franklin and probably Essex will need a West Coast Refit.

6 other Fleet Carriers should be on the way to Pearl but I am keeping them in the line.

This isnt going to work guys I need to think again - I just cannot produce enough aircraft to fight it out

I will do a ground forces analysis in a few days
