Update
China
I tried an end run in the open hoping to be able to flank some Jap IDs between Hong Kong and that French base. Didn't work. My Chinese troops are getting bombed from air and sea.
Burma
Tavoy is firmly in my hands. I have the AF up and running with around 300 fighters, support units and supply are offloading now. Follow on combat units are being prepared to move to Tavoy to move on Bangkok. Chang Mai is also in my hands after the Jap LCUs retreated from it. I am moving south with my units. I sent some 4Es at 10K ft to attack some ground units in the open in Thailand. Not good for the Jap 21st ID A BDE, 1600 KIAs. I also catch some Tojos over another ID I bombed. 21 Tojos for no allied loses.
Ambon
I lost 2 CVEs, 2 CAs (1 modern, 1 old Both US), 2 CLs (1 Brit, 1 US both modern) several DDs and escorts. Japs lost some DDs and subs. My cruisers met the bulk of the Jap surface fleet before they could bombard Ambon. They did a good job going up againist BBs and then cruisers. I landed some of my troops on Ambon but not enough to take it. I found out the hard way that there was an ID and IR on the Island. I only got 2 IDs, 2 Art units, and a tank unit. I bet forts are atleast 5.
Eniwetok and Kusaie
Both are in my hands. Eniwetok LCUs took a beating but was able to capture the island.
Nor Pac
Hunting subs.
I have several Ops in planning or close to launching. Updates later. I kinda miss doing an AAR.

Ambon
I still haven't taken the island. My IDs have taken a hit and had to rest up. I believe that Koniu got another IR on the island after I landed.
Dagua
Captured and troops moving to Atipae.
Ponape
I have landed troops and will take the island within a day or 2.

Good day for the Allies
1 Dec 44
Invasion force for Namelea, will make landfall tomorrow. In the process we launched a strike against Manado. This was a good day for the Allies. I sent my forces above Ceram, to throw Koniu off. I think it worked. Koniu launched land based fighters at my TFs. A few got thru my CAP. One TT hit a CVL, little damaged was suffered. 10 float with only 5 major. I set only my DBs on long range naval strike. I should of put the TBs. My fleet was 8 hexs from Manado, so I didn't think that my TBs would do very well. So I kept them close to the fleet at 3 hexs. My mistake.
Fighters sweep Manada. Not many fighters are on CAP. HB come in behind the sweeps and plaster the AF and Port. I shot down around 800 planes for the loss of around 230. Combat report to follow.

RE: Good day for the Allies
Wow! It took some time to find the big ships but you got a good start on them. Getting all those DDs out of the way will pay dividends!
The TBs at 8 hexes would only be able to carry bombs - no? They could add to the fires on the BBs and maybe destroy some devices on board, but not get the crucial penetrating hits.
After destroying so many of his aircraft, is there any reason not to charge in and do another strike using the TBs with torps this time? He will try to retreat his BBs but your CVs should be faster.

BBfanboy: I wasn't clear. The BBs retreated to Kendari. Kendari should be able to put up around 200 fighters if not more from other bases. I don't know if I want to send my CVs up around Manado or not. Jap CVs and CVLs where in the area a few days ago. I bet they are heading back to the area now. I have lost 100 fighters. I can replace them with USMC and other USN squadrons.
I have some DDs and subs either in the area or heading to the area now. I hope to find some wounded ducks.

RE: Good day for the Allies
I made a big mistake in my orders last turn, and it cost me. 3 CVs,3 CVLs and other ships. I forgot a TF and it was patrolling in no mans land the same place it was last turn. No excuse but I do have a good one. One I am sure we all have heard. Wife was pissed at me playing the game, so I just ended the turn and sent it. I regret that now.
Koniu offered a redo. I think I am going to take it. I don't want the game to end. With the way this turn ended, I would of thrown in the towel.
Great opponent Koniu is.

RE: Good day for the Allies
It would be a pity for the game to end like this, the redo sounds like a good idea, been enjoying reading these AARs from both perspectives. You have really stuck with this game! Its commendable.

Makes good sense and we all want to get a game to 45. You guys have a lot of time invested in this one, glad to hear you'll work out a solution and keep it going!
Many of us have this other game issue called "wife" that can be even more powerful of a chance element than die rolls or weather changes! [;)]
I've found it helps when I do the dishes and make her a cup of tea before starting the game up and it's even better if I do the turn after she goes to bed! [:D]

To be or not to be?
Been talking to Koniu. He said a few of you guys where mad that I stopped my AAR. I might try and bring it back.
I'm at work now so a quick update.
Jan 30 44 or close to it.
I landed troops at ternate. Resistance on d day was light. Koniu only has an amphibious bde and eng u it's present. I landed. 2 IDs combat eng and. 2 small tank units. I don't expect this battle to last long.
So who wants me to bring sexy back.

Having great fun reading your AAR. And sheesh, you have sure been taking a toll on his warships lately.

Thailand: My forces are encircling Bangkok and the base to the north. I am not for sure if I should try and take it or just cut it off then start bombing the crap out of it. Tomorrow, the 46 Para Div will drop onto Pakse. Koniu has most of the river crossings guarded around Udon Thani. When I take Pakse this will help me get troops to the other side of the river.
Moluccas: The first DA at Ternate came and went. 1:2. Koniu lost more than I did but I didn't touch any of the lv 5 forts. I will attack again tomorrow. Jan 29th I sent 3 old US BBs to bombard Manado. They ran in to 3 old Japanese CLs. Night time engagement was a draw. A BB atea TT but only 5 maj Sys damage. Daytime we sink a CL and DD damage the other 2, one sinks a day later. The Day of the invasion we shoot down around 160 or so Japanese planes for less than 20 of our own.
Cocos Is (IO): I lost 2 xAKs on a resupply mission today. 2 more are on fire and will prob be lost tomorrow. Most of the supply was dropped offs.
Turk, Saipan, Marcus Is are all in Japanese hands. I have taken most base on New Guinea up to and including Hollandia. NorPac is the same as when I quit posting.
I lose a sub that sunk a tanker. Another sub is damaged by E boats.
Lets see if I can keep up this AAR. RL put a damper on things. I am embarrassed about how I have played. Don't get me wrong Koniu is a great player better than me. I have made a lot of mistakes in this game. I have learned from some. Some I keep making. Prob always will. I would recommend Koniu as an opponent to anyone.
Thailand: My forces are encircling Bangkok and the base to the north. I am not for sure if I should try and take it or just cut it off then start bombing the crap out of it. RE: To be or not to be?
Crossing into Bangkok is a river crossing shock attack into (likely) major forts and urban terrain. Much better to cross at Ayuthia and march south into Bangkok.
Keep some units showing movement dots toward Bangkok to keep him thinking you will also cross the river there. Just remember to cancel and restart their movement before they actually cross.
Bombing the defenders will also help disrupt them, but if forts are high it will take a long time.

Thailand: Airborne forces take Pakse and Udon. I have forces ready to rail into Udon and then march to Udon.
China: Koniu does a DA on some forces east of Nanning. He gets the worse of it.
Ternate: 2 DAs and forts are down to 3 and most of the Jap AV is down to nothing. If the next attack doesn't take the base I will do a shock attack. Koniu takes out some PT boats just south of Ternate.
We trade subs again.
BBfanbory: I might bomb then attack across the river. It depends on what I see.
