Major trouble north of here. Cavalier, ND and areas down stream is under mandatory evacuation order starting at 7:00 this evening. A retention dam 6 1/2 miles to the west is expected to fail within the next twelve hours. The emergency levy at the top of the dam will soon be breeched. This will most likely destroy the entire town.
Bad news, dude. At such short notice, can anything be salvaged or the water re-routed? [:(]

In other news, I actually found a practical application for my knowledge of military history yesterday.

A Canadian friend of mine had bought an old Canadian Army greatcoat in a thrift store and I was able to help him identify the unit patch on the arm. Turns out the patch was only used during WWI; doesn't mean the coat is that old, but it certainly looks it.
