MacArthurs SWPAC armies did the coastal base hopping - leading with the 5th Airforce hammer and supported by the 7th Fleet.
Worked great in NG and PI where internal land communication was bad - French Indo-China has a better road and rail network so reinforcing is easier for the defender.......

I'm not trying to put you off Andy - the clock is ticking and hard choices must be made. I just have visions of Noemfoor (sp?).
Can you get two Corps loaded (8 divs); land one at base in Thailand (under LBA). If resistance is light and IJA reinforcements slow to arrive land second echelon and push inland - if resistance is heavier and IJA reinforcements are prompt then land in adjacent/nearest base and force PzB to split the defense.

Hmmm.  I was looking at this and thinking that one thing comes to mind.  You must get heavy bomber access to the HI and soon.  The Japanese get some advanced fighters about Aug 45 and the Shinden is pretty darn good - even low XP pilots will rip up good Hellcats.  Gotta nail the production as quick as you can - not res, oil, supply - actual a/c factories, and specifically fighter factories.  Nothing else matters - unlike real life Japan, in WitP the weakest link in the chain is actually the a/c assembly plants.  Hitting HI when he can do w/o a navy does no good, hitting oil or res when one can funge HI around does no good, hitting engines when there are only about 2 useful models is no good either - the Japanese engine industry is abstracted such that the weak chain is the end assembly.
 
Ok, so, how about taking Bangkok and the surrounding airfields up to the river before Saigon.
 
Then slideslipping into the S. Phillipines - Davao, Cagayan?
 
This gives you -
 
(1)  bases in Thailand to bomb China and more as you work your way up Burma.
 
(2)  bases in S Phil to bomb home islands with heavy bombers and interdict north phil with your medium bombers and fighter bombers.  I haven't checked the range from S Phil to HI yet though, may be a tad too far.
 
(3)  the ability to mass your carriers against the bonins again or north japan
 
When the Russians come in, you'll cut off North China and Manchuria.

My subs did the job taking out a few more enemy ships today although John claims some have gotten away to rebuild looks like a mauling for 2 full Jap Divs !!!!

To top it all the rat pit at Sampit fell finally which will release a Bde of 24th US Div for operations in Malaya

I do need to get in range but it aint that easy !!!!

OK lots going on I decided to send 2 Divs to try and flank him - 1st Aus Army is going north and should be attacking Bankok in a few days....

Well what to say PZB caught me good....

Unescorted B24J's and B29's suffered over Iwo Jima today it hurt I will probably need to stand down several sqns - It was a Pauk special ambush.

I had withdrawn the carriers to replenish and they were not on station to escort the heavies.

Gunners took a toll but noi question this was a good day for the Empire

And to top it all Kwajalein got hit hard and is in trouble we shall see....

Mixed results in Burma

My attack on Bankok is tough less than 1 to 1 but at least the forts fall although PZB is flanking me I am not tyhat fussed as I had ordered additional armour and Infantry north 2 days ago.

Lvl 9 forts make it very very tough

My landings in Cambodia go ahead 2 Divisons are landing I hope to secure the base tomorrow.

2 Para Bdes will land at what looks like a lightly defended Pnom Penh securing my flank Enterprise takes a hit and she will need to withdraw for repair

He landed paras at Songkia yesterday which will require an attack by my follow on forces

No turn tonight but I was sent the combat replay....

The good news is my two Divisons were enough to clearKompong Chnang but the Paratroopers were insufficient to take the Phnom Pen but I suspect they kept my flank clear from reinforcements.

A level 4 AF captured which will allow short range aircraft to deploy.
