I found a website that said it was just being released to DVD this month. But all the other sites are in Japanese. Of course the best Yamato experience still remains the book "A Glorious Way to Die"
But seeing Yamato, even in questionable CGI is pretty cool...
film made me think why strafing ships in WITP doesn't cause any decrease in AA effectiveness of the ship. Seems like it would make sense. I remember when i was playing Koei's PTO back in the day...fighters were able to strafe warships and decrease their AA. Too bad the same can't be modeled for WITP

In point of fact, in A GLORIOUS WAY TO DIE, the USN apparently used F6Fs in large numbers to strafe the flak crews. It has been a long time since I read the book but I think the author (was he not an officer on the ship?) made a point of saying that Yamato's AAA firepower was too concentrated on the ship and consequently lent itself to destruction by strafing. In any case at some point a witness (the author?) described "blood from the slaughtered flak crews cascading to the main deck from the AAA mounts above".

Yes. The fighters after all had little else to do...there was no CAP to cover Yamato. The author is an American. Believe you are referring to one of his principle witnesses who fought on Yamato, Kobiyashi IIRC. he was a AAA gunner and his vivid descriptions helped grip the reader. Even more bloody were the descriptions of carnage from the bomb hits in the superstructure, particularily the medical ward and radio room. Interesting side bit....Kobiyashi played a gunner in a early movie about Yamato. It may have been the 1977 movie.
Due to the blast effects of the 18.1 inch guns, the Japanese were forced to concentrate the additional AA guns primarily around the middle of the ship. A few choice bomb hits in this area would quickly create a charnal house. The two waist 6.1 turrets had to be supressed in order to make room for the additional AA.
