Hello...

It might be usefull to move any discussion of Wir bugs to the Wir forum. Nick Papp is the producer for that product and he is a moderator in that forum. There may also be people who would like to discuss the issue, who do not hang out here, on the PacWar forum.

The initial release of our PacWar patch will be as clean as I can possibly make it. I promise I will not take a vacation after we finish it.

Thanks for Your support...

Hey we can wait however long we have to for a subsequent patch for PACWAR if one is needed after the initial Matrix release. It is after all a FREE game....your efforts very much appreciated

I'm replying first to sulup,
I did misread your meaning about the "vacation". I apologize for the rant, just seems there are some really petty complaints about something that was done for free. I took a couple classes for coding and discovered that I didnt have the patience to do it long term as these games require, so I have a lot of respect for those who do it. I am not an A**hole about it but constructive criticism is one thing and ONE person spending months "re-constructing" code to improve a game is still a hefty accomplishment. Thats basically my point, I dont mind criticism that will add to the games- just bitchin ain't gonna cut it with me. Ive been an avid wargame player all the way back to A.H.'s Midway board game when I was in my early teens. I dont have the time that I used to because of work.
So if thats all, again I misread your meaning and Arnaud's still the man in my book!

I believe my point was that coding (yes even patches) requires that you change several lines to modify graphics, movement, size and speed of the product. The fact it is a DOS game with limits doesnt change the "thousands of lines of code" that are within it. The 6000 extra tanks arent in the first version- only in the patch. so somewhere the gentlemen doing this game (for free) missed the probable install dates for these units in the code for the patch...ergo we have a bug!
But instead of saying constructively "Hey guys can ya fix this?" Nah your not thanking anyone until its fixed right? where in your vocabulary does CONSTRUCTIVE come from? I'm knee jerk in my reaction because of this type of thinking for something that was done for free. Dont like it-dont play it, thats ok by me, but other than this, you have been very knowledgeable and helpful in your posts about these games and it was actually sulups message I was posting to. I DO apologize for that- I wasnt clear enough and can understand your being upset with me.

I too, know how tedious and nervewracking programming can be. I too study programming and I can tell you, the deeper you get into coding a program the more you're likely to miss the more obvious bugs, as in the case of the German tank pools or whatever...

Thank you.

Actually its in the editor of the first version as well.

Plus the testers playing the game, there was more than one person involved. But this is not important to me, as I said in my original post. I'm not concerned about the bug or even the game's currently unplayable state. I was taking a humorous pot-shot at Matrix for sending the guy on vacation before knowing at least how the update was received by the masses, never mind the possibility of some show-stopper problems. Thats all. No scorn anywhere in sight.

But instead of saying constructively "Hey guys can ya fix this?" Nah your not thanking anyone until its fixed right? where in your vocabulary does CONSTRUCTIVE come from?
Go to the WiR forum and look at what I said about this problem. My comments, up untill my response to you, *was* constructive. I even posted the list of changes so others without the original obwir file could make the needed corrections.

My phrase "not thanking them untill they've fixed it" was not the most productive thing I've said, and its also false. I wish I had said something better. Sorry about that. I have thanked them for things not even released yet. Heck, I told Frank, the guy working on WoN, that I was in love with him for what he was doing. Image He said his wife was not amused.....

To Ed,
Hey I want to repeat, I do consider you very good and knowledgeable on these boards, that comment did get to me and all of this was because it was originally meant for sulup's post. (I misunderstood what he meant about the "vacation") No hard feelings, OK?
I also do check the WiR board and your posts are exactly what you said. Onwards and upwards, so I do apologize about our misunderstanding each other, not looking to cross swords with ya Image

My suggestion on sending the programmer on a nice LONG vacation does make it appear I'm trying to be a smart-ass. I couldn't think of even SUGGESTING of firing any of these guys for the TIME and LABOR they have put in to polish up a game that's almost a decade old.

Having cleared the air around here, hopefully we can all get back to discussing the same reason why I started this topic.

-THE SOON TO BE RELEASED PACWAR 2.0!!!-

By the way, how do you include smiley faces in these messages.?
