Another nice observation from the last Combat Report shows Scott1964 usingthe B-17s @ 15k - which makes it pretty safe for my navel units around the PI.

In Malaya the Allies R making LB runs @ us from 6k.

Darren is going to use the mini-KB to provide air support for invasions @ Borneo.

The game has slowed down due to sync errors. We all installed Darren's pwhex file. Chuck and Scott have ships stuck in the "Gray Stuff" and I guess Chuck wants Darren to us his pwhex file until the ships get unstuck. Darren and I had a problem similiar to this in which Darren had ships stuck in the "Gray Stuff" but it was due to me using the wrong map. Once I bumped up to the AB extended map (which of course upgraded my pwhex file) everything was fine. Darren was able to get his ships free and we've been cool ever since.

I'm hoping Chuck sent Darren the turn 2day which would mean I might get my hands on it on Monday December 4th...

So for the next turn I'm moving a lot of troops, getting TFs to bases with troops for future deployments, and still tweaking on production.

I hope to have allied forces tied to Manila and then maybe shoot down the back end of Borneo in support of Darren by the end of December. I'd like to get a strong AB over there for those allied TFs that are sure to be trying to pull rsources/oil out of Java.

I also wish to reinforce Wake, build some island strong holds, and then push west. I'd also like to set myself up for an invasion of Hawaii in mid-42.

So in the PI things are going my way. I'm pushing the allies to Manila and will spank them there. I've sent a pair of Surface Action TFs to try and catch some of the allied mini-TFs that are running from the PI. Also, I've moved a squadron of Bettys to Legaspi in the hopes of slipping a few fish into some of those merchies.
I'm also pushing troops from Pescadores, Takao, and Kagoshima to Legaspi and San Fernando - a hammer-and-anvil approach.

Production
I'm still ramping up the production. As Darren pointed out, we could use more fighters. I want to push out some more Helens and Bettys too. And Kates - I can never seem to have enough Kates.

I'm fixin' to hit the east side of New Guenia from Truk. I also borrowed a pair of subs to scout Ruangoon (spelling) prior to sending over some units. When I do this I'll probably hook into KB for support.

Darren - lemme know when you plan to make a push on Hong Kong and I'll send over every freaking LB I have in Formosa for some major softening up.

Current Status of operations (12-23-41) managed by Adm 1EyedJacks:

In the PI Imperial troops are marching on Baguio from San Fernando, Aparri, and Tuguegarao. Allied troops continue to fall back towards Clark/Manila as brave Japanes soldiers take it to the round-eyes.

Troops from Truk are enroute to Hollandia to take over their large airbase and begin the process of liberating New Guenia from the occupational allied forces.

Production is high in Japan as the people take great pride in the rightous conquests of Imperial Japan. Recruits continue to flood into training stations to join Imperial Forces as that fight for the right of Japan's economic growth and the just liberation of nearby countries from allied countries bent on raping the lands and their people of their resources.

Changes in some of the assignments of bomber units should aid Adm Walkerd's troops as they fight to liberate Hong Kong from British troops.

Sub operations - primarily under the leadership of Adm Walkerd have done incredible damage to allied task forces. And the mini-KB, again under orders from Adm Walkerd, has cut through the fleeing enemy tasks forces running from the Philippines like a keen katana as enemy ships sink in droves from devistating torpedo attacks.

China

Still a mess. Slowly pushing the Guerilla units out and even managed to kill one. Discovered the best unit for clearing roads is Armour, fast and shock attacks.

I have some concerns about my forward bases. The Chinese can consolidate better then me and have masses of throw away units for cutting supply and blocking retreat. All those small naval units finally have a purpose.

Hong Kong has been bombarded for some time and will now launch an attack. Even if it fails to knock down fort levels it should burn a lot of supply. The AAA has been terrible and I am loath to throw more bombers against it.

Our losses in aircraft are proving to be a worry.

Burma

Two brigades and some support troops. Not much more then a recon in force. If I am lucky I may besiege Rangoon. I doubt my ability to take it.

Malaya

Am advancing slowly. I am finding the 2 days turns a (small) impediment here. If I advance on a city on day one I sit there for day 2. Launch my attack day 3 and sit on day 4. Still no problems at the moment.

I still view the allied air force as a potent threat. They have some decent aircraft and with the leaky CAP I am more vulnerable then normal. (Which is a good thing)

DEI

The invasion of Borneo is going to be in 2 waves. The initial invasions of Brunei, Jesselton, Sandakan, Miri and Kuching have been launched.

All except for Kuching will be preceded by a small SAG of a CL and a couple of DD’s to clear the hex and offer protection. The invasion TF is a couple of AP’s carrying a small Naval Landing Force and an escorting Patrol Craft. I expect all of them to fall fairliy easy.

Kuching is the uncertainty. It is close to air attacks from Singapore and to the Dutch navy if it wants to come and play. A brigade will make the initial landing closely followed by a 90AV base force. I will then base Zeros and Nells for defence and to project my firepower deeper into the DEI. I have 2 SAG groups based here. One has 5 or so CA’s and the other has 4BB’s and 3 CA’s with escorts. I will probably use the BB’s for bombardment and keep the CA’s for cover.

If I do it the other way I would be using the BB’s to attract the allied naval strikes in the hope the bombs bounce off and the AA causes a lot of damage. It has the attraction that once Zeros are based there it should attract all the enemy naval strikes into a CAP of Zeros.

The second wave currently being prepped and with the ships available will include Singawang, Pontianak, Tarakan and Samarinda. I really need to extend air cover over Singawang and Pontianak to ensure they are invaded with minimum loss.

Subs

Doing very well. I can only attribute it to not playing with historical settings. Several subs have used all their torps and need to return to base for reload. I have a preference to keeping moderate amounts of subs resting in harbour, so whne they start to return I intend keeping them their for a while.

I have noticed a bug in this game (and in my other game as Japan). Subs sitting in harbour will suddenly convert to computer control and go sailing off, always to an enemy base hex. I have no idea why.

Overall

Things are going well at the moment. We seem to be hitting many of the task forces fleeing the Philippines. This turn it has started to become a concern. Mini KB can not launch many sorties before needing to refuel and rearm in port. I had to return to port this turn rather then remain at sea.

Oh, I noticed they are shipping oil into Singapore. I did this to you. I intend to advance as fast as I can and place interdiction airfields near the front with the naval bombers. I intend to use Lillies and Sallies against Singapore and I prefer to base them as close as I can. I keep the Nells for shipping attacks in the area.

I have advance about a dozen RO class subs south of Truk and will shadow Rabaul and Port Moresby. Longer range subs have been placed in the Southern Pacific, primarily to cover ships leaving PH and arriving at New Caledonia.

As you noticed a lot of subs NE of PH to catch transports advancing forward and damaged ships retiring to the West Coast. I did notice a small TF fleeing east but it diappeared.

Things are going well at the moment. We seem to be hitting many of the task forces fleeing the Philippines. This turn it has started to become a concern. Mini KB can not launch many sorties before needing to refuel and rearm in port. I had to return to port this turn rather then remain at sea.

Push hard for Singapore. I plan to hit hollandia and roll down the coast. I can take on Amboina if you'd like - but I'd like to clean up the area around the PI first.

I used mini-KB as air support - although it wasn't really required as my land-based bombers had pretty much rendered the Singapore AB into swiss cheese.

Find me those allied carriers with your sub patrols <laughter>? In truth, I'd almost bet cash they have their carriers @ Hawaii (which is why I want to hit Pearl Harbor again). Maybe you could plant subs around PH to the N/NE? I'll steam from Kawajalien and come @ PH from the south. Use some subs with aircraft to look for enemy TFs near PH?

I'm building zeroes as fast as I can but KB is sucking them up right now. I expect that by the next turn squence or two we should start seeing the pool build back up. Fortunately - we seem to have plenty of Claudes...

Another option for putting zeroes on mini-KB is to take a squadron or 2 of land-based zeroes and convert them to claudes when mini-KB slips into Saigon and then upgrade mini-KB fighters...

Hawaii round 2 is a good idea. Its what you did to me and I have not noticed any fleets fleeing PH, well there was one of about 4 ships.

If you think Hawaii is feasable. The general consensus on these boards is that unless you plan for it from turn 1 it is not feasable.

I certainly agree we wneed to wrap the PI up, freeing many ground units and aircraft.

I tend to prefer the South Pacific option but I noticed they have reduced the Victory Points for most of the Islands. We seem to have our short term strategy ok. Mid term is Singapore after PI then DEI to secure the resources ASAP. Where we go from there is open for me. The question is if you wish to delay DEI for Hawaii?

Cool. I'll tap more BBs if that's all there is but finding his carriers is what I'm really after. I am hoping they won't hide them in San Deigo. If we miss the carriers then we should probably take the isles from Midway to Pago Pago. The isles will tie down a lot of our air support since once we take those isles we are basically on the defensive... Taking Hawaii tho - that would pretty much force them into pushing through Australia to carry the attack to us - right?

The navel bombardments really soak up the supplies/oil @ Singapore. It makes the transport of oil/supplies to Singapore a wasted operation for the allies - at least in my opinion. And I think the bombardment causes a lot of disruption to the allied forces stationed there. I always wanted to try a heavy navel bombardment while doing a shock attack with attacking forces I had @ Singapore on the same turn. In truth, in the game with Scott, Singapore fell to fast for me to try that out.

DEI or Hawaii - now that is a good question. For an attack in April/May, how many divisions do you think it would take - seven? Plus massive air support. Maybe hit Johnston for a LB base and an enhanced KB for air support?

In truth, I haven't really looked into those mods. I've got 3 games going right now and I got behind in sending turns to the solo games I have with Walkerd and Scott1964. Right now I'm trying to commit to the 3 games plus this AAR.

I think you are right about establishing the island peremeter. The challenge will be getting enough supplies to maintain them plus freeing up enough fighters and TBs to provide an effective deterent. If we take Hawaii tho it pretty much kills a heavy LB attack against the islands. I'm dreadding the 200-300 LB attacks in 43...

Here's the current situation in the PI on 12-23-41.Units are pushing down from the north and up from the south in a pincer attack to push the allies into Manila. LBs are being assembled at Takao for strategic heavy bombing once the allies are driven into the hex.

Here you can see some of the many TFs carrying troops/supplies into the PI campaign. I hope to have the PI tied up and gift-wrapped by the end of Febuary. As Darren has pointed out, the 2-day turns do seem to slow down any attempt at blitzing the allied bases. It's ok with me - it just means I need to accept that limitation and plan accordingly. In current games with Darren and Scott I've been poorly prepared at times to follow up on some of my offenses thru a lack of planning and some weird problems I've experienced with TFs leaving port with only partial loads of troops or supplies.
