Well the turn didnt live up to the billing I had givin it. Lew sent his surface group into Kupang, and I am very surprised my LBA didnt make a run at them, but perhaps there is a small amount of CAP there that stopped them from attacking. Singkawang and Balikipan both fell, and my troops made it onto the beaches of Palambang. This turn should see Palambang, Victoria, and Tavoy falling. The sea blitz continues.

So, you will not invade India or Oz in this game as you always do in our games Mike!? [:'(]

Nice follow up on PH! I've found the Allied position there to be completely hopeless after the initial KB strike.
As long as the US doesn't want to sacrifice their cv's that is!

Have you accelerated production of any Jap carriers, and has the Shinano been put on hold?
Guess this may be a bit too sensitve to put on an open for all AAR.....

The most diplomatic way to reply to that is this; If the Aussies left Oz undefended, I am sure Japan would have invaded. I dont intend to invade Oz, but alot depends on the Admiral. Same for India. I did idle the Shinano, but only sped up a few DDs. I have some hard objectives in my mind, and fully intend to turn turtle once I reach them. What I wont do, is capture some base in late 42 just so I can auto-victory. ( a base that I know I would never be able to hold onto for long )

RE: Mauritius

Post by Freedom205 »

Well once again the Admiral does a fine job of getting in a few jabs. (at this phase of the war it is about all the Allied player can look forward to) He catches the Chokai shepherding the APs away from Palambang and sends her to the bottom with well placed shots from the Mauritius and torps from her DD screen. I am sure that the skipper of the Mauritius is up for some very large medals from the Admirality. (well deserved I add) Very nice job of catching the AP tf after it left Palambang, as a large surface TF was patroling the water of Palambang waiting for a possible raiding British surface group. The Ise gets a couple fish put into her by the Dutchmen, and will be out of the fray for awhile. (but is in no real danger) Time to sink some ships to make up for the loss of Chokai, maybe my LBA will get it done.

This turn found the Adelaide using up her luck. Run down near Rabaul she was torpedoed twice and raked with 4 or 5 8 inch hits.

Tough day for the Allies--- CLs and DDs hit by Betties and Nells in the Eastern DEI. The biggest shock was the landing at Noumea. Base force with no inf. Only good news out Noumea is that right now it is 2200 miles from the nearest base of the IJN that is bigger than a L1. Where are the New Zealanders when need them? It is hard to rope and dope, when your opponent uses a cannon and all you have is a BB gun. KB and Mini KB seam to have fallen off the map.

RE: Revenge on the Mauritius

Post by Freedom205 »

This turn is loaded with action, but not all of it to my liking. On the positive side, I was able to capture Noumea, Unmak, Alor Star, Samarinda, Jesselton and Gasmata. To my glee my Nells were able to catch the Mauritius fleeing, and put 4 torpedoes in her and send her to the bottom. On the negative side a superior surface force of mine was clobbered by a single surface raider. (the Pennsecola) The fact that an IJN force of 2BBs, 1CL, 1CS,and 3DDs, with a highly qualified leader,at night, in 1941(where the IJN rules the night) could get the s**t knocked out of them by a sigle CA without escort has to get ones panties in a bunch! I am not whining, just venting. I love this game, and am seriously addicted to it. Just that sometimes one wonders what the hell is going on. Enough with that, I knew that an Allied CV group was steaming toward Noumea, and that my landings would only cause the Admiral to kick up the speed a notch. I have had a small AP Tf running from Nukufetau Island for days now, and the Admirals CVs caught up to them and sank 2 PGs. (but have now given away their position) Baby KB hits some ships fleeing Java, and my land steamroller is heading south from Alor Star. My loss of the Kirishima to the Pennsecola will sting for quite some time, perhaps I will have the defenders of Singers build me a new one after they surrender.

Noumea falls

Post by AdmNelson »

12/15/41 Mike continues the onslaught. Noumea falls-- Pensacola puts a valiant fight with 2 IJN battleships. The Kirishima takes 25 hits with at least 15 8" shells. Carrier group catches 2 PGs and AP SE of Noumea. Can I catch the battlegroup with the carriers.

What Mike doesn't know is that a second carrier group is moving between Lunga and Noumea. Well maybe we can catch the battlegroup. Tomorrow the 16th of Dec,1941 could be a surprise and interesting day for the Imperial Navy.

Ouch! There goes the Kirishima sisters...but were is the KB!? [X(]

I've witnessed a lot of incredible feats by Allied ships in both night, and especially daylight, battles.
What a whole TF of Jap ships can't achieve, a single Allied ship or a few destroyers can pull of.

RE: Allied CV Ambush

Post by Freedom205 »

The Admiral's post just prior to this does a pretty good job of painting a picture, so I will just give a quick overview and a copy of the combat report. Lew was correct in thinking that the Hiei would flee to the north, though her intended destination was Rabaul and not Truk. (I was pretty sure Rabaul would fall this turn) Either way, the captain called out flank speed and ran she did. I had seen another green TF to the north, and thought that it could be another AC tf so I directed the slower moving ships in the area in another direction and sent the Hiei north. She wasnt able to outrun the fast Alled CV group, and took a pretty good beating, (as did the Abukuma, which will not make it through the night)but will make Rabaul and safe harbor. The Admiral managed to slip his units out of Georgtown just in time, and I shall have to fight them all the way to Singers.............
This thrashing I am taking has me wondering if I should have challenged the Admiral to checkers instead. [X(]

RE: Situation map for the Burma area

Post by Freedom205 »

Here is a quick map of the situation in Burma. 2 Divisions are racing north to take
Rangoon and............ 3 Divs with support and armor heading south through Alor. Was hoping to trap the 6 units that were in Georgtown, but they managed to get out just in time.......or have they?[8D]
Also appears as if the Admiral is trying to steal away some trapped troops with submarines.

RE: Manilla Falls

Post by Freedom205 »

12/19/1941, Manilla falls under the control of Japanese forces. Not much to report as far as combat is concerned. Manilla falling is about the only great news I have had to report for the past few days. Allied CVs are slipping off into the mist, and things will settle back down to normal for the next few days. I see Lew plans on visiting Dutch Harbor again, and what intel told me was a submarine turned out to be a couple AKs trying to rescue the trapped British Base force. Here is a situation map of the PI, as of Dec. 19.

Manila does fall. Manila was ordered to become an open city. Allies continue to have airstrikes in an around Davao. Attri attri attri. Baby Kb has moved off the the coast of nothern OZ. Us carriers have given up on the pursuit ot the Hiei. I would have liked to have sunk two IJN battleships, but we will take the one. Dutch Harbor raid, hopefully we can do some damage. Airstrike over Palembang will continue to hit ships in port, and maybe disrupt, the up and coming invasion of Java.

RE: Surface Combat at Dutch harbor

Post by Freedom205 »

I was expecting some surface combat this turn, but I wasnt expecting it to be against a force with a BB (Colorado) in it. 3 rounds of combat at Dutch Harbor result in the sinking of 2 Allied DDs, with no losses. (though the Tama is pretty badly beat up) I must admit, I am very pleased with the thrashing the IJN CLs dished out. On paper they look more like a heavy DD than a CL, but they sure do pack a hard punch.
