Terminus (and others?):

Now I discover that Windows 7 Home Edition does *not* have XP compatibility mode, but the Business and Ultimate editions do.

Do I need to cough up the extra $100 to get the Business Edition to play WitP-AE (and, if you know, IL-2 1946, Forge of Freedom, and Civ IV)?

Because my only reason to install Windows on my Macbook Pro is to play XP games, I am considering buying XP rather than Windows 7, if it is still around, but then I would likely have problems with games yet to come.

Eh? I run Win 7 Home Premium, and I have XP compatibility mode...[&:][&:]

Either way, you don't need compatibility mode for AE. It runs perfectly without it.

Thank you again, Terminus. I apparently confused "compatibility mode" with a feature not in Home Premium that allows the use of some business software.

I appreciate your fast and helpful answers.

I have a white macbook (laptop) purchased in FEB2008 that I put a windows partition on with Bootcamp. In this partition I installed Windows XP Pro SP3. I run the DOS games I like just fine (Pacific War and War in Russia) to support pbem play. PW issue is similar to that on my old PCs, if drill into a CV airgroups and attempt to change type or mission, one gets an 'Out of Memory Error' but this is not unique to the macbook.

I tried without success running Fusion, alternate to Parallels, but gave up an reverted to startup in native Windows XP.

I think you would need a Bootcamp Windows XP installation on your Intel Mac. Diablo III Gold|Diablo 3 News|Diablo 3 Accounts

Has anyone run Commander-The Great War using VMware Fusion? The program would not start version 1.30; version 1.40 starts, but the screen just flickers (showing both the game map and start-up screen). I use VMware Fusion 5.0.4 to run Windows 7 x64. Accelerate 3D Graphics is enabled; it supports DirectX 9.0EX with Aero and OpenGL 2.1

Thanks in advance for your help!

Got tigers on the hunt running on Mac via wine =) some slight graphical glitch with the unit select and log panels at the bottom, otherwise works just fine!

I recently purchased a new iMac using Boot Camp (Win XP Pro) (Leopard installed). I installed SPWAW but had a DirectDraw error when the game began. Does anybody know how this problem can be solved? I'm using the new video drivers, the latest DirectX.
