I have the GF 7600 GS now. After dabbling with ATI I moved back to GF. AGP, no PCI Express yet.

I get thrown by things like Geforce 2.  What the hell is that, I wonder. 

A video card....and video card compatability is one of the FIRST things you check for when considering a game.
Frankly,and I am not trying to be rude,you really need to pick up a copy of Computers for Dummies if you are going to using computers.It explains all the terminology very clearly.
If you have problems with understanding a list of requirements,you really need to bone up a little.It will save you a lot of grief in the future.

I guess our definitions of "rude" differ.

Actually I've never had any trouble running a game despite not knowing much about video cards. But then most of the games I play are not high-end heavy on graphics, so that is probably why I've never paid too much attention to graphics cards. I figure I know as much as I need to, and when I'm not sure I can ask the (mostly) friendly folks on this forum and do a little googling, like I did yesterday, and get all the info I need. I think I'll pass on the book recommendation.

Is anyone playing the new CAW using a card older than GeForce 2?

I just ordered it because I never thought that it would have a higher graphics requirement than Oblivion! I'm using a GeForce 6600 GT, which handles stuff like Oblivion (anti-aliasing off, but the rest of the graphics at max) rather well.

I guess I'm wondering what players are getting away with in the way of old graphics cards while playing CAW.

Had to look up for myself when the geforce 2 was first released - 2000 so graphics card is now 7 years old. We didnt think this would cause to many problems on the requirements front, and allows us to use all sorts of cool effects such as proper transparency.

Just to let you know, I downloaded the game and it does run fine. Window Mode doesn't let me see the bottom of the screen tho? I switched back to full mode. No problem!!!

Okay... I think that the problem is that NVidia doesn't call the new cards names like the GeForce 2 8800 GTS, they just call it the GeForce 8000 GTS. So, those of us who haven't been paying constant attention to computer hardware get tripped up by the GeForce 2 requirement that is listed, not realizing that our video cards are well beyond that level. It's not your fault, it's NVidia's fault for using such confusing nomenclature...

The card in your example is a "GeForce 8 series" card (which is the official Nvidia nomenclature), the first number in the name is always the series number. With every new generation Nvidia goes a step up in the numbering. The next series will be "9" and card probably called something like "GeForce 9900". this naming has been around since the original "GeForce series", with exception to special models.

Mark, this is why I said that those of us who haven't been staying on top of computer hardware are the ones getting confused. I didn't know that the first digit of the model was the "series" as in GeForce 6 or GeForce 8. I honestly thought that GeForce 4 was the latest version, but didn't know which cards were which...

I'm glad to know that my system should have no troubles...
