You'd think something like this would have been caught in beta testing[&:]

You'd think... but testing is pretty grueling and tiresome. The folks may have just turned the music off.

I just got bit by the dreaded end of year freeze as well. I am running Google desktop, but from what others are saying, it must be a sound problem. Guess I will have to try to remember to turn off sound before the end of the year until it is patched. this is the only bug I have run into. Loving the game![&o]

That was it. Reloaded the save, turned off sound, smoothly proceeded into 1915.

Allright, well at least we've got the cause pretty well pinned down. Hopefully Frank will be able to duplicate and fix it.

Loving the game!

Not to hijack the thread; although it's good to read that you're enjoying the game after an epic wait--it was kinda fun watching your squirm towards the end. ;)

No doubt.

You can always exact sweet revenge during a PBEM later too. :)

The game freeze every time the first turn arrives to the barrage fase: il the right high corner remains the signal "busy" and so I must leave the game. I've downloaded many times the game and I've turned off all the other applications and antiviruses, but without results: i'm desperate [:(] Thank you, everyone you are that can help me

I think I am getting the same error.
I get message: "Device is already open"
I click OK and then nothing happens, and I have no buttons to go on.
Top left hand corder is "Jan-Feb 1915 | Impulse 1"
I am sending you the autosave.
First time I played through, I did get the two buttons to continue or end. But not since the first runthrough.

I have the same error as well, Jan-Feb 1915 i get "Device is already open"[:(] and can't continue the game.
Edit: Loaded auto-save with sound off and got my marginal victory as CF[:)].

Lava is right, it's the sound file for the end of scenario. as I approached the end of 1914 last time, I turned sound off and sailed through without a hitch.

This is a lot of fun, it's a while since I've had the "one last turn" bug.

I just got the same error sort of. My music does not seem to work at all. It will play one song and that is it for the entire game. When I got to the end of the 3 turn 1914 game I got exactly the same error as everyone else. When I read this thread and tried it with the music off (even though it does not really work), I got a completely different error.

I can mail a save if you want.

Jack

OK - my mistake - when I went back and read what you guys were really saying and turned off the sound effects (not the music) than I could finish the game. BUT - does any one elses music just play for one song. I am just curiuos as it is certainly no big deal.

From what others describe, I believe that I am having the same problem.
At the end of the first complete turn, I hit continue, the computer thinks for a second, and their is a sound like a gun firing (one of my attacks I assume), and the location of the continue button keeps merely saying busy. I have let it go for over 20 minutes. It just can't seem to kick over to the next turn. I have tried turning the sound off, as the others have mentioned, reloading, making a new scenario, and restarting the comp. This also applies on other year scenarios. I just bought the game and muddled through the first turn with the help of the sticky posted guide. Is all of this in vain? Is this a patch issue?
