RE: Axis turn 10
Here's the Axis moves in turn 10. My advance is slowing down 'cause my units are starting to show red health. I have a handfull of units that are fresh but they aren't near the front lines yet. It looks like I'll need to move the focus of the 'camera' on these movies in the near future since we're at the right edge already.

I 've got a question for you Larry: how did you managed to get your Panzerkorps unit in a good shape till turn 10? I played twice this battle against PO and in about 5 turns I had almost every panzer unit in red status and I was not able to restore them for the rest of the game.

RE: Axis turn 10
I've been attacking using "minimise losses" settings so as to get the most combat rounds as possible. I've had an early turn ending only twice now. And I try to move as little as possible. Maybe that is what did it?

Even with minimise losses--your guys are pushing back & evaping my strays set on ignore[X(]
Well finally got a turn back to Larry--The battle for smolensk should start in earnest next turn or so--Larry has pretty much mopped up my river straggelers except for a strong point in the south--hope that can help contain a future envelopement of smolensk along with my blown bridge campaign in the north and some light screens.
If "mininise losses" pushes me easily out of my dogpile---I'm running for moscow and hope the turn limit ends before Larry gets there.

RE: Axis turn 12
I'm beginning to think that this scenario is supposed to be about the battle of Smolensk and not necessarily about the Germans getting all the way to Moscow. At least that's the way it's turning out. There's only about 18 turns left and I'm thinking it's going to take about that long to reduce the Soviet presence there in the Smolensk area. He's got some heavy hitters in there and my dudes are in the red already. The fresh troops are on their way but it's going to take a while to get to where they're going. So....

Just looked again at the road to moscow series in the directory---looks to be four more installments before germans are "at the gates"--although from this map you wouldn't think so. If we continue with it and keep flipping sides per installment--should be your turn as germans "at the gates" when we might get there[8D]

Well, had some cav reinforcments show up by Gomel a few turns ago---instead of pulling them back--I tried my luck at conducting a second southern raid behind the lines---again-didn't have enough patience to wait for him to get further east and the ruse is up. Hopefully they will last another turn or so and tie down some reinforcements a little while longer ---did get to slip one by and recapture an objective and blow a bridge behind larry's lines:

I blundered a little bit at the north end of smolensk & larry has been able to already start the beginnings of an encirclement there--readjusted some forces and hope that thwarts it.

remember that historically the panzers of Guderians panzergruppe were turned southwards to help AGS to surround Kiev. A big point of contention in Barbarossa. After the capture of Smolensk the road to moscow seemed wide open but Hitler wanted the Kiev pocket closed. Hence the late start to Typhoon.
