My suggestions

Commander – Europe at War Gold is the first in a series of high level turn based strategy games. The first game spans WW2, allowing players to control the axis or allied forces through the entire war in the European Theatre.

Of course historically the allies did try to reinforce Holland, e.g. the French 7th army advancing to Breda. However a panzer division with mostly MK1 'tanks' got in the way and events elsewhere proved far more important!

Reinforcing minor nations units is a vital part of the game especially for the germans who have all those minor alles to sustain. Think of it as spending resources to delay the enemy.

A game of historical actions and consequences will either have to involve house rules or for play v the AI use of some of those spare option buttons. I reckon such additions will enhance gameplay and widen the appeal of the game.

Example - there was no reason for Germany to invade Holland except to get at Belgium. The Belgian reaction to this would probably be to allow the allied armies to advance into the country. A historical reaction rule would have a DOW on Holland result in a automatic DOW on Belgium say 90% of the time. The reverse would not occur, a DOW on Belgium would not trigger a Holland DOW.

Stuff like this should be relatively simple to code?

I never found attacking Holland to be too difficult, or taking the Hague, nor unrealistic either.

Another must have house rule for PBEM involves the fate of the Russian fleets when their home ports are lost. What happens to the Balitic fleet if Leningrad is lost? In the game it keeps on fighting so must be nuclear powered and beaming in ammunition and supplies !!!

"In real life" if there was no option left for the Baltic fleet it might have made a break for the Nth Sea .... but there's no option to try this...so it's swings and roundabouts - you have to kill it...but it isn't going anywhere else that the allied player might like it to.

Ah yes, I am suffering at your hands but have now realised that the fleet cannot damage the Finns in Leningrad so it is doomed to vainly cruising the Baltic looking for a garrison to shoot at, at least it is consuming some fuel not that this matters for the russians. It is not worth the pp expenditure to kill it.

It will matter when the russians re take Leningrad as the fleet magically rises from the sea bed to harrass the Germans!

They could have sent it in from the Arctic through the canal, and the Wallies lent them some old BBs towards the end of the war too.

There is a canal from Leningrad through the lakes and to the Arctic, but it only operates in summer:

created by our loving comrades through the death of many forced laborers.

As it is only 10-12 feet deep not much use for battleships, cruisers or even destroyers!
