I'm an avid canoer and a Southerner, hence "canoe rebel." I came up with it ten years ago when I first got online, but I'd it's not the name I'd go with today. The older I get, the less fitting "rebel" seems to be.

ORIGINAL: Greyshaft
"Greyshaft" has been my nickname since my days at University some twentyfive years ago.
"Grey" is short for "Graham" and I ...uh... well, I was much younger then and I wasn't married ...![]()
Um, I'll guess! You bore an uncanny resemblance to Richard Roundtree?

As to my Log In, I hope no US born inhabitants of these forums need to ask why, but for those of you from a far-away exotic land like Germany, Canada, or New Jersey:

Well I enjoy wordplay and its a bonus if the wordplay spans languages so when it came to choosing a nickname which is, essentially, a pseudonym it amused me to go with the latin word for "no-one" as what could be a better pseudonym than calling yourself "nobody", albeit covertly
.

Well, that's that settled then.

RE: So whats your log-in all about?
I watched a stupid action movie back then which was called "Face off". I liked the name because at this time there were many demonstrations in Germany against nuclear waste transports. Those transports were called castor so I found it quite funny...
So I´ve been here on a forum for years (the only one I´ve ever been for years) with a nickname from a stupid film and nuclear waste transports... [:D]
I switched my nickname for forum memberships to Tyler Durden some time later which is a name from another stupid film (fightclub). Though I still like that stupid film! [:D]

When I joined this forum on 2004 I was already contributing in another game forum: the half-arsed and infamous game Pax Romana. For some reason I thought I should be using a "Roman" nick there. So when I joined here I just used that same nick. Anyway "Tullius Detritus" is a [very negative] Roman personage in one of Astérix's stories: La Zizanie ["Asterix And the Roman Agent" in English, I think].

A certain miss A. Hortlund broke my heart once. When I started surfing around on the internet I decided that it would be a smart thing to not use your real name. So I used hers instead. I figured that if someone wanted to stalk me and tried to find me in real life, they'd end up finding her instead.
Bitch.

Wow, Ms. Portman looks good! [8D]
I spent 10 years in the USN, and all 3 of my deployments were onboard good old CV-66. I'm actually in the picture on my avatar, somewhere in the crowd on the bow as we transited the Suez Canal.

Panzer, I heard some sort of similar story (well, you are not hurting anybody).
A lady broke another guy's heart. So what did he do? He started to send e-mails to his [male] friends using her ex's addy... Needless to say he was saying nasty, horny & porn things. All the guys thought the ex was some sort of er... nympho, cat on heat, and of course they started to harass her => "hey, no problem, we may do a lot of nasty things, thanks!". The lady investigated, she sued her ex and the "poor" guy was fined. Real story. Ah, love...

Mine is to pay homage to those WWII gents who went to war in a very lightly armoured AFV to battle Panthers and Tigers, and they did it with an inferior gun!
I have played Steel Panthers at least 12 years, and have been a regular with the SPWAW crowd...
Of course, my name is...Bob[:D]

1275psi - is of course the pressure of the Foster wheeler boilers I used to steam in the RAN, on the DDGs Perth, Hobart and Brisbane.
One boiler in particular (1A) on the Perth was a bitch -she taught me patience, and persistance, and that swearing doesnt help - things very useful for WITP.
2A just decided to blow up [8|]
Still nothing like the power of opening the throttles when you have 4 on line.
And 1275 psi is easy to remember!

Wow! Some great stories about log in names! I don't know about the rest of you , but I feel like I'd getting to know some of the "threadsters". I notice that some of you have explained your avatars. Great idea! Tell us more! For you Non- former USN types , mine is (tying with my log-in name) my Navy rating badge (or at least the part that tells my rate). How about the rest of you?[:)]

I don't know about you guys ' but I'd love to know the story about the names you selected . Some (like mine) are obvious, but some of yours really have me curious. So who's game? Tell your story. Mine's easy and obvious ; it's my rate (rank and specialty) in the Navy and my first name. Soo... whats your story?[:D]
RE: So whats your log-in all about?
No story to tell. I needed a handle when I created the account, and it just sort of popped in...
As for my avatar, that ties in with the current hush-hush work (shhhhh)...[:D]

[font="times new roman"]I have a bit of a story behind my name. I joined the Navy in 1973. I was 17 years old and looked about 15. By the time I finished Boot Camp, AWA School and Flight Training I was 18. I made it to my squadron (VP-56) two weeks before we deployed to Sicily. During the deployment we made a mini-det to Suda Bay Crete. We managed to get one day of RR in the town and my crew decided it was time to properly welcome me and one other new guy to Crew 6. They did this by buying two bottles of wine everywhere we went, one for the crew and one for the two of us. Well after a few hours my ordnance man, a man who I came to have great respect for, decided it was time to get me a hooker. He pulled me out of my chair and said “let’s go find you a hooker.” Well, I had never seen a hooker or even thought about them so I started to ask him a lot of questions. How can you tell a girl is a hooker? What do you say to one? How much do they cost? And on and on. After a while, he stopped and looked at me with a shocked look and said “You really don’t know do you? I mean you really don’t know?” I replied that no I really didn’t. That is when he said “Shit, you’re just a Kid! You’re nothing but a GD Kid!” That was it, the nickname stuck. They made me put it on my Crew hat and my name tag. For seven years people only knew me as Kid. Heck, some of the new guys even believed it was my real name. There are still some people out there who call me Kid when we get together. As for what happened that day…well that’s a whole different story.
