In the U.S. buy LCDs (Monitors and TVs) at a Costco if you can. They have the best return policy on the planet Earth. Any reason no questions asked. For most products its for a full year I think. They have begun limiting on TV's and such but its still around 90 days at least. Also, if you buy a lot there, they will be even more flexible and bend other rules for you. I once returned $75 is expired Ink I didn't get to using within the year. No reason at all they should have taken it back besides I asked them too and pointed out how much I spend there each year.

No need to throw anything out a window to return or exchange it there. The $40 membership fee is waived if you have or get an AMEX card (Which essentially has a $40 annual fee). The costco version gives you 1%-3% cash back on all purchases made anywhere in the form of costco gift certificates.

Best yet is Costco is well known for paying some of the highest wages and benefits anywhere to its workers. This even given its main competition is Sam's Club (owned by Walmart)...

I bought a 32" LG HDTV and I havent seen any dead pixels within the 1,5 years I bought it even if I have tried to find them. I dont know if LG has any policies but they have won som awards in the past. Decent quality.

Perhaps the amount of dead pixels will raise when the concentration of pixels raises (better native resolution). This is just 1360x.

Just came something to my mind: when you buy monitor, make sure graphic adapter supports its native resolution, or comes close of it. You don't want be limited to 1024x768 with widescreen. Also there are several different widescreen resolutions and aspect ratios.

Got the Samsung 20" today and it was a fiddle to set up - my GeForce GTX wasn't being read by the system correctly and the monitor therefore demanded to be connected analogue and as Matti pointed out, at a shocking 1024 resolution.
 
But with the help of a friend we got the video card configured and its now running native 1600 x 1200 DVI (digital) and with no pixel issues at all it does look nice. Have to get used to the brightness of the whites. It so much clearer than my 4 year old 19" CRT which was killing my eyes.
 
Looking forward to some nice eye candy and well, the warranty is very good but all said, these monitors are so cheap now, I'm more than happy to road test it for a long while and become proficient with the life that is LCD, for future comparison.
 
Btw, Vista Ultimate is an absolute dream to run so far. Completely plug and play with so many peripherals that prior, needed discs. Norton 2008 loves it.

ok,
Finallized and installed at 249.00 plus tax from compusa, with a rebate that is ALREADY verified in the erebate system!
Acer 24 inch really great  , no bad pixels.. super clear, 3 year parts and warenty. etc... after reading so much about hte waranty issues with samsungs, I felt good saving 200.00 or so against Samsungs item, similar specs too.. .27 dot pitch etc.
 
Fyi, I use the sleep mode and my monitor does shut down as opposed to what all the reviews say! LOL
So I am THE happy camper, only stood outside 6 hours to be number one in the door, to find out they had plenty and it was not a"ticketed" item, could have shown up at opening  but regardless it is here now!!! LOL
