"If I can scrounge up supplies to ship in, I might try, depending on the circumstances. But there's really nothing for the cargo ships to carry in to the Philippines or Singapore. There are not enough supplies in Australia and India to make it worthwhile."

I found that Balikpapan and Kendari create enough supplies to send in some to the PI. This is where I lost a lot of the Philippine freighters in my PBEM vs Chez, using them to senak in supplies to Manila and Bataan. On the return trip I used them to evacuate the excess base forces (my USAFFE air forces were, of course, shattered at this point).

I'll second Buck Beach's comments on usmm.org.  It's a great site for detailed merchant marine history.  Reading between the lines, it looks like a couple dozen dozen merchant ships were sailing around the Philippines through the end of December.  Sometimes, I've tried a "redoubt" strategy where I collect supplies from outlying islands to transfer into my strongholds on Luzon to try and prolong the resistance of the Allies there.  The historical losses would be consistent with that short of operation.

I am getting ready to start a new game using the new RHSCAIO (level 7) mod. I know it's not for everyone but it has a lot of things I really like. I want to give the poor old AI a break and still stay within the historical world for at least the first few weeks of the war. However, I don't much about the history of that short period and not really up to trying to Google it with 10 different variations of searches.

Well if you can't bring the AI up to human standards then you can step down to the AI's level. Use lots of Bourbon the first month or two of the game. This should give the AI a 'fignting chance'. [:D]
