That's called "Breaking the Seal"

I remember that as "Calling for Ralph" [:D]

However,, to paraphrase one of the greats,, "have you noticed that there are more old drunks,, than there are old doctors" [;)] [:D]

If that's so, that's probably because drunks don't retire, whereas doctors do. Calling for Ralph? Hmmm, never heard that before, but I don't hang around drinkers anyway. Don't you think that's rather poignant given my story of Uncle Ralph? What is that, some sort of cheapshot?

Wasn't "Calling for Ralph" a term to signify being sick?

"Breaking the Seal" is the term used (here0 when you first go to the toilet on your night out. You can probably sink 5 or 6 pints of lager before you have to go to the toilet...after that, you go every two bloody minutes...hence "Breaking the Seal".

Nope. I'm not pc at all, but that doesn't mean I like the culture around drinking, or drinking one bit. I think in future it would be a better idea to try for some other joke related to drinking, as opposed to one that just happens to match the name of that distant relative in the same thread. It looks quite crass and inconsiderate, even if you weren't cheapshoting. I would assume my comment brought the name Ralph to you and that looked like a nice adjoining comment, as I do that sort of thing myself often enough, that is, that art of using someone else's words to form another joke, but when my comments were of such a serious nature, it's far better to think of something else, especially when Uncle Ralph's dilemma was so sad.

I don't know what to say,, sheesh, but the enjoyment i got out of this thread was the humor concerning drinking,,, and when i started reading your post,, I must admit,, much to my chagrin,, i passed it by,,as it didn't really fit into the humor that was going on here.. So I didn't even see the name.. or reference to a distant relative named ralph... [&:].   [X(],, so,, flat or not,, thats my joke,,and I'm sticking to it... [:D]

I think if you reread the thread, you would see my comments,,and quote,, was directly related to JD,, not you in any way,, other than,, sheesh, did it again,, rolled a six,, when i needed anything else!!  [;)]  but it surly won't be the last time,, if i know me...

and.. one last thing,, If you don't like Bar humor,, a bar is one silly place to go... But i guess thats why most bars welcome one and all.. with a bit of cheer to boot.

So no offence was meant,,and considering you are from Texas,,and I am from Colorado,, and all the humor betwixt the two,, perhaps you will take no offense and accept my hearty

Merry Christmas,, and have a wonderful Holliday season

Thank you anvl, as you describe it, I can see how you generally regarded the thread as a joke, so therefore the entire contents must be a joke, but in that you would be wrong. As you must now know, my post wasn't a joke, but even so, the entire contents were not either. Naturally you might conclude, if I care not for licquor humor, why would I post in this thread? Indeed, that would be a correct summation on your part, only it's wasn't a joke thread. Yes, some people decided to turn it that way, but I posted off the first post (and others), which was more about what people thought the average consumption rate was and far less of an aid to get licquor joking started. So, yes, I normally don't post, or even bother opening obvious licquor threads, but for some unknown reason I did this one, and then the opening post sounded somewhat promising, and certainly licquor threads from my limited experience seem to be very one-sided, so I thought I would remind people that licquor itself isn't a joke, and then of course weigh in that there are some of us who don't touch it, thereby dragging the numbers down a bit.

I was going to make the comment that I think you will also find that older people tend to drink less, but decided against it. Seriously (again), licquor is often nothing but one big fat joke for seemingly way too many people, and I think one little sobering post might help bring it back down to earth some. Even so, I'm not a member of MADD, as I think those people are at times quite lunatic, in fact, and here's my little licquor joke here, their behavior is often scarey enough that I think to myself that I would just as soon join DAMM (drunks against mad mothers) as join them. As far as I know there's no such group as DAMM, but considering how my faith teaches that unrepented drunkeness ends in damnation, then it has something of a cute double meaning.

Yes, Merry Christmas to you too.

I WAS gonna leave a six-pack of Heineken for Santa, then realized that might not be such a good idea. So, later tonight, I'll do him a favor and drink it for him. [;)]

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Incicently, when drinking too much, we did not call it "Ralph". We called it driving the great white bus! (picture the toilet seat as the stearing wheel)
