And one more pretty plane side to make up for the lack of substance in my writing...

RE: 1922 Grand Campaign: goodboyladdie (A) vs Dixie (J)
ORIGINAL: goodboyladdie
Dixie advances into Chinese territory after resources. The Chinese have very little to oppose him. We do not know what to do about his Shanghai SNLF. It cannot move out of Shangahi as all the surrounding hexes are under my control. I figure it would not have been there if the Japs knew war was coming. Any ideas how we can move it to safety without getting the French and Commonwealth involved in the shooting war?
Does Dixie have the political points to change the unit to SAA, move it to another port, and chanche it back to CAA? That's the only way I can think of...

Mike

RE: 1922 Grand Campaign: goodboyladdie (A) vs Dixie (J)
Hi Mike
His ships would attack and be attacked when they approached Shanghai. Overland seems to be the only way. I may have to pull forces away from the surrounding area to allow him to march out. Tsingtao will not be Japanese a lot longer if I have my way, but he is bound to take plenty of cities in Manchuria, so at least he will be able to set a destination...
Actually, Tsingtao is where I would have moved them if I were the Japanese, so perhaps the fairest thing would be to allow them to march there before I lay siege to it?

RE: 1922 Grand Campaign: goodboyladdie (A) vs Dixie (J)
My subs begin to make a nuisance of themselves, drawing criticism of "cowardly attacks from beneath the waves" from the Japanese. Tsingtao looks like it will not fall. I only have a US regiment there so far and need to get some of my sparse mobile forces to the Northern Front to force Dixie to invest more troops there, so I will never be able to do more than lay seige...

USS Huron, trying to stay afloat long enough to reach Manila. The destroyer Hovey has slightly more floatation damage, but can steam at 7 knots.

The nasty situation developing in the southern PI. Elements of the base force from Davao are on their way to Rabaul to assist ANZAC forces in the building of a forward operating base for the combined ANZAC squadron and elements of the Home Fleet in defence of Australia. The US is hopeful that the gesture will pay dividend when the time comes to take the war back to Japan...

Most USN DDs are undergoing a quick upgrade to give them a rudimentry ASW capability. The small number of DDs screening the Pacific Fleet and those vessels currently fighting in the Far East and on the China Station will follow as soon as they can be spared...

Spare vessels that do not belong in the modern 20+ knot Battle Line are being deployed as Guard Ships to prevent light forces being able to exploit the situation to grab the vital Pacific re-fuelling stations. When they can be spared from this task they will be used to protect convoys from Surface Raiders...
The USN is cruelly deficient in Cruisers, so every loss is keenly felt.

RE: 1922 Grand Campaign: goodboyladdie (A) vs Dixie (J)
I did not remark on the ejection of US forces from Tsingtao. This situation is pretty important as possession of Tsingtao gives the Japanese a route into the heart of China. Most Chinese mobile forces are on their way to contest the Japanese Northern advance and measures will need to be taken to try to pen the Japanese in. The ability of the Chinese to do this by sea has been eroded by the mine damage sustained by 2 of the 5 Chinese Navy cruisers. The US RCT and the China Station HQ have been ordered to establish a secret base to ensure the USN can maintain a presence in the area once the PI are lost and the China Station destroyer squadron is forced to withdraw by damage/losses. The British Forces at Tientsin, Shanghai and Hong Kong have been orderd not to get involved. I can talk about it here because I have asked Martin to not read the current page. By the time we get to a new page his spies would have been able to acquire any information disclosed or the Intel will be out of date. This should allow me to avoid just posting the CRs...

RE: 1922 Grand Campaign: goodboyladdie (A) vs Dixie (J)
Hopefully the Japs will soon lose a CA to balance the expected loss of USS Huron. This is the stock art, by the way...

RE: 1922 Grand Campaign: goodboyladdie (A) vs Dixie (J)
Comments and advice are gratefully received, btw.
I am having second thoughts about Tsingtao. From the combat replay it looks like there is only one unit there. It is a very powerful Brigade. It has around double the strength of the US RCT I used to probe it. I will be sending additional forces to try to wipe it out. The mining of Tsingtao is a pain as it means I cannot bombard him using my Chinese CLs. If I only send two Corps and an HQ North at the moment, I will be able to add two Corps and maybe another Div to the US RCT and a couple of Chinese HQs. If the US China Station HQ unit has engineers attached I will send them too. Most Chinese LCUs are fixed and the French and British/Commonwealth are neutral so there is no mobile reserve.

The guard ship heading for Wake (an old 5inch CL) has reversed course! The CR suggests the enemy tf off Wake Island is a little bigger than shown...

Reinforcements are slowly heading for Midway. Lets hope they get there and unload before Midway gets raided too. The CL will arrive before any Japanese force (hopefully) and around 300 mines have been laid.

The BC New Zealand is cruising to join the ANZAC squadron. I am using cruise speed as there is no immediate danger for Australia and facilities for repair at Rabaul will initially be limited.

Cripples that will drain supplies are leaving Manila before the siege begins. Huron Watch: 97/72/12 and about three turns away from Manila. DD Hovey, damaged in the same action, has sunk. I really hope Huron makes it as she has a good crew.
