RE: Third Reich, WW2, European Theatre, AI Scenario

Post by Fred98 »

Joe, if you have the rules, could you look up the scenarios and variants for me to include in the game?

The boardgame has:

1939 scenario
1942 scenario
1944 scenario
Grand Campaign

Subsequently Avalon Hill released another scenario titled 1941 scenario. This was included in a copy of The General.

If you want me to scan something I can do so.

Please note that advanced tactics is not Third Reich. The only thing to really mod is the map and counters. The game play could never be reproduced.

The combat could never be reproduced. But the mechanics (capture a capital, enemy surrenders and you get political points) could. So could the order of battle. But it's not my intention to do that. As a first scenario the idea of this one is just to make an AT WW2 game in the same theatre. And the aim also is to make it a scenario for play againt the AI rather than a multiplayer scenario. I think there's a shortage of scenarios if you don't want to play PBEM. I have a few ideas for other scenarios to use what I've learnt with this one too.

I think once it's released I will start a thread to help us tweak the AI.

Hey, I like that idea.
A European theater scenario specifically designed for play against AI.[;)]

Wow, looking good! I'll have to check this out one of these days. [8D]

It's nice to see some friendly competition with Third Reich mods. [;)]

Oh cool, are you doing a "proper" third reich mod? i'd love that, but it's beyond my capabilities (and patience) at the moment. Mine is really nothing to do with third reich apart from the ocunter colours and the theatre [:D]

I've been using the Strategic Command 2 series to create a Third Reich adaptation. You speak of patience; I've been at it for almost 2 years now!

It's interesting that you are focusing on the AI. The Wargamer should be posting an article shortly where I discuss the AI development in SC2 and how I applied it to my custom campaign. In a Part II article I present an AI-vs-AI after action review of an entire campaign game. Look for that. Y'all can judge for yourselves how "proper" it turned out. [;)] I'll emphasize that I'm trying to generate more discussion about AI developments in general, not so much about SC2 specifically and my mod. Maybe Vic or someone here could consider a similar article about AI in Advanced Tactics. It's an interesting subject. [8D]

Yes, I agree it's very interesting. I've pointed out before that it would be an interesting feature for AT to have the ability to match up AI vs. AI. I'd also like the ability to script or mod the AI in some fashion and have different AI tourneys.

I guess that's just a personal interest though. I'll keep my eye on the Wargame for the article you mention, it should be interesting.

History began July 4th, 1776. Anything before that was a mistake.

Delyn,

Have you considered doing a ptmaster where you use the NATO counters, but allow the terrain graphics to default to whatever the game is set to?

I've collected all of the counter sets I've stumbled across, but I find myself too lazy to swap them in and out very much.

In fact, I should try and track down the authors and see if they'll let me post them on commmuinty site.

Thanks,
Rick
