Warhorse's night graphics were included in one of the patches -- probably patch 1.02.

This variant is very interesting for my JTCS meets PG3D-mod - good for my Battle of the Bulge -Multiplayerscenarion. Can we make this to a 5th terrain-option.

Here's another idea for thick mud/deep snow terrain:  For vehicles, there could be a chance of bogging down.  For example, you could expend AP to exit, but you might fail in the attempt and remain in the thick mud/deep snow hex, kind of like expending AP for a starshell but the starshell fails.

While an excellent attempt, might I suggest alternating between a light purple, light blue and a white as opposed to using just white for the snow? It might add some depth and not look so whitewashed?

Thanks Jason, I'm tinkering with your suggestions.

To really get this right for all terrain elements would look sweet but it will take some time... I can't guarantee that I'll finish what I started here.

I thought I would try one of Jason's suggestions of mixing in other colors to try and tone down the harsh white look of the original snow terrain. This is not intended to be a light snow terrain but rather an alternate to the 'stock' snow terrain. I will now attempt to post a couple of screenshots for comparison but I'm afraid my posting inexperience may hinder my efforts. Here goes:

OK, I tried it and just couldn't do it. Can someone give me a clue (or a detailed explanation would be better) as to how to post screenshots. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay in posting. Simovitch, I like the 2nd edition better.

Eureka! It worked.[:D]

And now the 'stock' snow terrain:

The first screenshot seems a little easier on the eyes, at least to me. But I'll have to try playing a full scenario with it to see if it really is any better. Again, this is not intended to be light snow terrain but an alternate to 'stock'.

junk2drive, thanks for the help.

All the games I've played the snow was not light. I'm not certain if you can modify it.

cw58 I like your alternative to the stock snow. To me it gives better contrast between the darker elements (trees etc) and a more atmospheric "overcast" look. (Unlike yourself, where I come from i've seen a fair bit of snow in my time [:)])
Will you be able to publish the new look graphics sometime? preferably with instructions on how to change them. Or perhaps its possible to use the Mod utility mentioned elsewhere on this forum?

flying scotsman,

Thanks but I hadn't really planned on "publishing". I couldn't even figure out how to post a screenshot by myself. [;)] Maybe Jason and Co. will introduce new graphics in 1.04.

The process is fairly simple. I'll tell you what I did, if you'd like to try it yourself. The file I modified is the 'Snow3d' bitmap found in the WF or EF folders. I made a copy of the file before making any changes. I opened the file in a program called MGI PhotoSuite which allows me to change the colors on the palette. Then I took about 10 of the whitest colors and decreased the red value by 20 and the green value by 30. This changes the whites to a very light blue/purple. I'm not sure if this can be done with MS Paint as I'm not that familiar with that program. The whole thing takes about 5-10 minutes to do.

This was a first trial, so I'm not sure if the red/green values that I used are the best possible combination.

Or if that sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth, I could send you the modified file and you could swap it out. But you'll have to tell me how to send it, because I don't have a clue.[8|]

Irfanview is a free graphics program that has a colour change feature that I think is easy to use.

Apologies cw58 but for some reason the e-mail I sent you seems to be undeliverable so I'm not sure what we can do. (unless you can send a copy of the file to me) via my member profile.

When there is a cover of snow on the ground, and when the sun shines, it can be painfully bright outside from all the glare.  That's essentially what the complaint is here.  I agree the example in post 31 gives a good feel for an overcast day during the winter -- everything looks grey.  Good luck on your attempts.

flying scotsman,

I couldn't send an attachment via your profile, so I sent you an e-mail with my e-address. Hopefully, that will get through and we can work this out.
