RE: usernames
I have used Baron von Beergut since snail mail wargames back 35 years ago in my army days. When I started meeting people on prodigy to do pbem wargames around 1994 and when www.theblitz.org started in 1999 I used it and found I got opponents more often just out of them getting a chucke from the name.
Enlisted during Nixon, retired during Clinton then went postal - joined the USPS, then retired from that during Obama.

My football league team was the Marauders, and I post a lot in the Maximum Football area.
I use Marauders or Marauder on most PC football game boards.
Someone already had the singular Marauder here, but it looks to be not used.

RE: usernames
I've noticed all the inventive usernames. But, I understand, many who are here on these boards have other usernames on other boards. Any particular reason for that?
2nd question: Why did you choose your particular name? Might be interesting to find out why.
Well, why not? For one thing, different boards ask you to reveal differing amounts of personal information. I have a profile on Fanfiction.net which does NOT specify a preference for any particular Japanese animation, unlike my profile here. The reason being that I want to be able to post without appearance of bias on the various animation series.
Civil war? What does that mean? Is there any foreign war? Isn't every war fought between men, between brothers?

I’ll give you one guess Zap [:)]
RE: usernames
Mine is pretty straightforward. KG Erwin = Kampfgruppe Erwin, with Erwin being my middle name (and, of course, Rommel's first name). On music boards I'm bassplayer617. 617 is my birthday (June 17).

RE: usernames
My name is Martin. I use Mart because when I sign up for a board, Martin is usually already taken. For some odd reason, I use mart on some boards, maybe as Mart was taken. When I first started going on forums, and got panicked by not being able to use my real name during the process of signing up, I used the name of my favourite pet, "Bassett", but I hated using a pseudonym so much that I soon managed to persuade most administrators to just let me revert to Mart or mart.
At the risk of being controversial, I have just never seen the point of using pseudonyms. They can often give you the wrong impression of someone, before you even have a chance to get to know their views. On the other hand, the combination of someone's username, their avatar, and their signature can often warn you that you are about to have an exchange with a psychopath.
Martin is the name my parents gave me. I haven't always liked my name, but it's the only one I've got. I did have nicknames at school. Although they were always fond, they were often also racist, and I never "took them with me" when I left anywhere.

Gem is a nickname for my days of playing Everquest, my beloved Wizard who I played for many years and many many raids.
35 was my age at the time I created this account.
Suffice to say Gem will always be a very sentimental nickname for me.[:)]

It doesn't make any sense, Admiral. Were we better than the Japanese or just luckier?

RE: usernames
my username is from a college class. My foreign language was Russian. Parusski in Russian means Russian I thought that was unique I have been able to use parusski on every email account and user name for other boards so I have been lucky.

I really don't know. I mean, the Arctic part comes from those delightful Central Alberta winters...aside from that, it just sort of sounded good, I guess.
