The focus of testing is not in playing the game, but in working as a team to help produce a great product.

Sir ..
This is exactly what my goal would be ...

As I have 35 years of wargaming exp an abundance of time and energy to dedicate to this massive undertaking. I would more than appreciate any opportunity to help in any way possible.

Not quite as bad as the maid cleaning up all those messy carboard pieces after doing the b'day.

It made total sense.

1. Any previous experience in testing software.

Hearts of Iron 2 and (briefly) Europa Universalis 3, though that was cut short by work commitments long before EU3's release. I will be available now for at least seven months however.

2. Your experience of cardboard World in Flames (remember we need equal numbers of Newbies and Grognards on the team)
a. Newbie - Never played WiF but it looks great
b. Recruit - Playing WiF occasionally (or played a lot a long time ago)

Have followed WiF for years, to the point I have a pretty firm grip on the rules and strategy, but have never actually played it with another humanoid.

3. Your experience with CWIF (Australian Design Group's ealrier version of a computerized World in Flames.
b. Some

Downloaded it and fannied around with it for a few hours.

4. Your PC specification. (just the basics):
a. CPU speed

b. RAM
1GB

c. Operating system
Windows ME (also have a laptop running Vista)

Windows Millenium is an evolution of Windows 98 SE rather than Windows 2000. Windows 2000 is an evolution of Windows NT4 (internaly, Windows 2000 is called Windows NT5).

This said, Windows Millenium is a million times worst than Windows 98 SE.

Hey Shannon,

Yeah, testing this product is something that definitely interests me. Highlights below:
1. Any previous experience in testing software.
1.5 years at Kodak as a SW tester in their Graphics/imaging division
2. Your experience of cardboard World in Flames (remember we need equal numbers of Newbies and Grognards on the team)
a. Newbie - Never played WiF but it looks great
b. Recruit - Playing WiF occasionally (or played a lot a long time ago)
c. Average - Currently playing WiF on a regular basis
d. Grognard - Rules guru

I fall between b and c - it's been awhile since I've played, but the group I played with used most all expansions and were quite familiar with the game and its concepts.
3. Your experience with CWIF (Australian Design Group's ealrier version of a computerized World in Flames.
a. None
b. Some
c. A lot
b - managed a set-up and 2 turns before deciding it was easier to continue playing on paper.
4. Your PC specification. (just the basics):
a. CPU speed
b. RAM
c. Operating system
d. Maximum screen resolution for your monitor

a. 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo
b. 2GB
c. WinXP SP3
d. 1680x1050 widescreen (22" Samsung widescreen) run from 1xnVidia GTX8800

Cheers,

Ted

Steve:

I would be very interested in Beta testing with / for the MWIF team.

1.) No experience testing video games; spent several years as a beta tester for Lotus products (Lotus 123, Lotus Notes, Fox Pro, AmiPro, etc.)

2.) I have been playing the boardgame version of WiF ever since I found the game at an hobby shop in Brisbane Australia back in the mid 1980s.

3.) I have spent about 500 hrs playing around with CWiF. I did manage to nearly complete one game accross a LAN about four years back.

4.) CPU - 2 Core Intel @ 2.72Mhz
RAM 3.3 MB
Operating System - Windows Vista Business or Windows XP Pro (I have two machines that are nearly identical except for the operating system)
Maximum screen resolution 1600 x 1200

Windows 2000 was the successor to Windows NT; Windows Me was the final evolution of Win 9x (XP closed the gap between the two).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Me has some good info on it.

I realized in the early 1970's that it was impossible to stay up-to-date on all computer technology. Everyone has huge gaps in their knowledge. It has a lot of similarities to trying to personally know everyone in a city of million people, with people moving in and out continuously.

It looks like you have quite a few volunteers but I'll throw my hat into the ring.

1. I've alpha and beta tested modifications for a more action related game with both solo and internet play. The mod was for MechWarrior and I worked with the mod team at MekTek. I worked on two separate modifications to the game. Generally I worked as a play tester, balancing various weapons by playing certain vehicles with specific weapons systems. We used this data to generate statistics for play balance. I also did some general bug finding and some minor modifications to splash screens and UI items (very minor). I'm also an experienced amateur 3D modeler and have basic skills with Photoshop, if that helps.

2. I have no experience with the cardboard version of the game but I played lots of cardboard type wargames back in the day.

3. No experience with CWiF.

4. I have 4 computers to playtest on. Two are desktop computers, both run XP SP2. Two are laptops, one runs XP SP2 and the other runs Vista. The computer I'd prefer to test on would be the oldest one. A laptop running XP SP2 Media Center Edition, Pentium, single core, 1.73 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 1680 x 1050 maximum screen resolution. The others all have much faster specifications and more RAM.
