The earlier post said Jason was not a full-time employee. He might be a part-time employee, or he might be an independent contractor and not an "employee" at all.

If I thought one group of fans was being given preferential treatment over another, I'd be upset too. Whatever the arrangement, I'm fairly certain Jason is not standing on the same footing as you or me with respect to Matrix. If you really think Jason is pirating the game without Matrix's approval, you can contact Matrix, and I'm fairly sure they will tell you Jason is their man.

My point is that if you have concerns, you're posting them in the wrong spot. Even here, someone from Matrix may contact you and reassure you. I wouldn't, however, expect Matrix or Jason to disclose the nature of the arrangement.

I don't think anyone is being excluded. You can post what you want here. Matrix is responsive as far as I can tell. I wouldn't expect Matrix to meet everyone's request, and I would anticipate time and resources would limit what could be implemented and how quickly they could be implemented.

Why would you want to upgrade when you aren't happy with the result and feel you can do better yourself?

I just sent this to Matrix and requested a refund:
 
I wish to have a refund for my purchase of JTCS. I purchased under the understanding that this was like the talonsoft game. It is not. Jason Petho has encrypted files that when installed allows for nothing but his version of stuff to be included. He did this in 1.03 not 1.02 update. Now my choice is to stay with a less of a product then originally bought or ask for a refund. All this could have been resolved by not encrypting those public files as the game was intended.

Actually, the original files were also encrypted.

It was the work of a third party that provided the decryption and new encryption tools.

Again...update to a modded weapons file platoon file that we as a user could do....but in your capacity of I don't know what has said No can't do that because of some PBEM cheating issues. That is not me nor some others that support this game by our purchase thereby supporting Matrix. You could supply the those files to those that wish it. Then you could be free of this whole ordeal

Kind of defeats the purpose, no?

You could also start posting the files that you have modded that you would like to be encrypted.

I haven't seen anything yet.

I have no say of what you do to your installation. You have the power to choose what updates you want installed on your machine.

If you wish to mod, and find it such a hassle to post a file to have encrypted, then don't install 1.03.

I think what barker wants is a game that he can mod without restrictions or interference.  If I understand correctly, he could do that with the Talonsoft version but cannot do that with the Matrix version.  As long as he can't mod without restrictions or interference, I don't think he'll be happy with his purchase.
 
If I understand him correctly, I think his position is when he purchases a game, he also purchases the right to mod without restrictions or interference, so he feels like he got less than what he paid for.  He described the files as public.  I'm not sure they're public even after a purchase.  They might be copyrighted.  I don't know.  My impression is it's the seller's prerogative what to encrypt to discourage mods. 
 
I don't have a dog in this fight.   I do think barker could be a major contributor to the game with his mods, so I'd hate to see him take his toys and leave.  I'd like barker to stick around.

Files created using 1.02 will not function in 1.03. You'll have a system crash.

SOLUTION

Install JTCS.

UPDATE it to 1.02.

In Windows Explorer, create a new folder (BETA, MODS, MYMCS, whatever)

Paste the game to that folder.

UPDATE the first install to 1.03

Mod to your hearts content in the 1.02 install.

Thereby you can have both versions 1.02 and 1.03 on your machine.
