Discount for Previous Owners?

This sequel to the award-winning Crown of Glory takes Napoleonic Grand Strategy to a whole new level. This represents a complete overhaul of the original release, including countless improvements and innovations ranging from detailed Naval combat and brigade-level Land combat to an improved AI, unit upgrades, a more detailed Strategic Map and a new simplified Economy option. More historical AND more fun than the original!

Well sorry to break up the general spirit of goodwill and camaraderie but IMHO a measly $10 discount for previous purchasers can only be described as taking the piss. Not impressed.

No sale.

And the fact Matrix staff seem unable to comprehend a 'casual fan' (rather than hardcore fanboy) of this series might not be too keen on paying a sum for which I could quite literally buy the boxed deluxe edition of Empire: Total War in the high street for an enhanced version of a game I already own amazes me. People are funny that way, they have different opinions.

I guess we will have to agree to differ (although I can do without the '[8|] from 'staff', than you very much). At the end of the day, as with my comments on exchange rates, your bottom line will show who is right and who isn't. You will, of course, have course have the advantage over me in knowing what the sales figures are and I won't. As it is, I won't be buying this and if a similar policy is pursued with WitP:AE I won't be buying that either. And if it is just me, then it's no great loss is it?

20% off seems reasonable to me. I was not a huge fan of CoG but if this game gets good reviews I'll buy it.

Lets look at it another way. All of us work for a living; at least I would hope so. We all ask our employer to pay us for our labors. Most of us even expect a pay increase every year even if we do not increase our productivity. A lot of people worked on this game. They expect to get paid; it’s their job after all. They produced a product using their labor and have a right to set the price for what they believe their labor is worth. If you disagree with them, then opt out but don’t degrade them by saying they don’t have a right to charge for their work.

Absolutely. I would point out, however, that your final sentence is a total 'strawman', I haven't said that and neither has anybody else.

Each of the situations are completely different, as COG:EE is a seperate new game and WITP:AE will require the original WITP to work.

There is nothing to compare.

then why bother posting ? if your not interested, that is on you, (and shouldn't be a issue, not all games are prefect to all players)

but why post and bother people who are interested ?

People have responded to both my original post, and to subsequent posts. I have responded to them in turn. If that 'bothers' you I suggest you stop trying to patronize me and follow your own spurious advice.

Thank you for my discount, I was happy to pay the 39.99. Very happy I live in a country that (thus far, Obama!) does not tax the ever living Hell out of me. I pay for quality, and I know this product is quality.

I do agree that the price for this game is little high. I half expected the game to be sold around the 30-40 dollar range (without the discount).

But then again, Matrix games is small company that does not sell the volume as the larger companies. I doubt Matrix games and the developers could stay alive selling games that price.

Just the way the world works i guess.

Ok, this is quickly turning into exactly what I warned people to avoid. I do not want to see any further comments from anyone on Hertston's original post. He has a right to express his opinion and any personal attacks will be dealt with according to the forum rules.

Hertston, I disagree with you personally, but I never expected that every single owner of COG would necessarily buy the sequel. Everyone has their own reasons and their own price point. You definitely could have expressed yourself in your initial post with more civility though.

Regarding WITP:AE, as with COG:EE you are entitled to make a decision based on your assessment and price point, but expecting new games that take 2+ years of development and are released to a niche audience to be bargain priced is unrealistic IMHO.

To respond to the other questions, there is no planned expiration date for the discount coupon offer.

Locking this up now.

Regards,

- Erik
